Scary sight awaiting me after the blizzard!

12

Eeek! Just like many people up and down the country, my personal tale about last week’s Beast was a burst pipe. Noooooo! More below.

And also, as promised, some nice news! See snippets below. Plus – my first painting for 41 years…

…and a sneaky peek or several, at the week ahead’s deals.

The ‘Beast’ Bites in Beaworthy
At least it was only in the utility room. But as luck would have it, when I got back to Sheepwash, Beaworthy, Devon on Sunday night and inspected the damage, it was a burst that had happened in the little loft room above the utility area – it created a waterlogged ceiling which caved in when the plumber came to fix the pipe on Monday morning. Soon as he touched it, it fell apart – but at least once it was repaired I could turn the water back on. Thank goodness for my lovely neighbours who were looking after Daisy and Gracie for me and fortunately caught it before it got too bad. So I spent my days off last week washing the dozens of towels and mats that were used to mop up the puddles, and trying to dry it all out! Hopefully it’ll be done soon as I’ve got lots of guests coming next week… Maybe I’ll have to staple some thick white card to the ceiling temporarily… Lol.

How did the storm affect you? Let me know by leaving a comment below or on my social media.

This weekend’s deals

Well hot on the heels of my super show with Amanda Holden yesterday, (hope you got her Today’s Special Value storage trunks they were fab!) here are the next few days’ deals…
Today’s is the Paul Costelloe edge-to-edge Coatigan with stitch detail.
Tonight’s midnight launch is the brilliant Gatineau Summer Body Trio, including my favourite handcream, the Vitamina in Supersize and their wonderful Anti-Wrinkle Tan Accelerator too.

And Sunday’s TSV is a delight for gardeners, a cordless hedge trimmer and saw from Sunjoe Do join me for the launch on Saturday at midnight and also for the three hour gardening show on Sunday night!

See below for more sneaky peeks!

SNIPPETS
Arty party

One of my most liked posts this week on my Facebook page (follow me and ‘like’ the page, below, to be first for my updates) was when I went to an art class! Now it was the first time I’d painted a pic since I was 14! Blimey! Anyway Sheena my lovely mate from Devon, invited me along as a treat and I happily went not knowing what to expect. What I got was ‘painting poppies in the style of Georgia O’Keefe’ and at first I thought I might give up half way through. But with Sheena’s help and encouragement, and a loan of some finer brushes, the acrylic pic gradually took shape! It’s not great, but I’m very proud of my little effort! What have you done recently that you’ve not done for years? Or ever? And do try to do a ‘TiFFT’ (Try it For the First Time club) every so often, it makes life a little more interesting! They are having another art night down at the Cranford Inn in April so I’ve booked to go – I wonder what type of painting it will be next time?!

News!

As promised a little announcement – actually it was going to be about being invited on Four in a Bed for my guest house in Devon, but I had to turn it down due to my QVC commitments. So here’s another one instead – a much better one! Hot on the heels of seeing my beautiful first grandchild Blake on Friday, I can announce that my daughter Lauren is going to have a baby in September! Squeee! Yes, like the proverbial buses, two have come along at once! Christmas this year is going to be extra special that’s for sure! Meanwhile this is little Blake last Friday when I went to see my son for his 31st birthday too. She is now aged six weeks – she is starting to grip things with her hands now, bless her! Fancy me being a nanny – cool! And what a year. Just need a book deal and a new man and I’ve got the set! Lolol.

Amanda Holden and me

Had my first show with Amanda this week, and enjoyed every minute, especially finding out how she felt after Ant and Dec and our Craigy set her up for a Saturday Night Takeaway prank last week. Go here to read all about it on Craig’s blog, and here are her current contemporary home furnishings from her BundleBerry range on QVC – so-called from the two nicknames for her kids! Cute!

Happy Birthday Shyama

Remember Shyama from the Six O’Clock Show, back in the day? Well when we were both on 31 West, an entertainment show in the early 1990s, we became firm friends. Last week I visited her for her birthday – happy 60th honey – looking the same as when I met you! She is an awesome pal, and has seen me through most of the stages of my adult life! We all need a friend like that, right?

Goody Get Together

And also caught up with lovely pal and QVC model Goody. She’s very busy with her therapy work nowadays, but she found time when down to model for Michele Hope’s hours, to meet me for a catch up. We had a right old chin wag and it was fab!

Sisterly Soup Share

This week I also had a cuppa with my mate Sheila, a QVC Facebook pal and now friend from nearby Holsworthy, as well as popping over to see Alix for scones in Belstone, as well as a lovely sorely-needed Yoga class with Jennie. BUT that’d take up too many pics and there’d be no room for TSV peeks (they’ve put a limit on the number of pics we can put in blogs now!) So here’s the last one – when I went to have my nails done by my sis, she warmed me up on a cold Saturday afternoon with a cup of her own homemade green soup – my fave – including ginger and miso. Blimmin lovely it was! Usually it’s an Elemis foot rub but the soup really hit the spot!

Book of the Week

It’s a fab romantic comedy from one of my top authors – Jane Lovering. Jane has just won a prestigious industry award for her shorter novel, ‘Christmas at the Little Village School’, and I’m so chuffed for my fellow Choc-Lit author, as the independent UK publisher has several nominees in their midst – and me! Lol. Jane’s book of the week though, is her other nominated novel, Little Tea Shop of Horrors. And not just because I love teashops and occasionally run one! It’s because it’s available on audiobook – and I’m delighted to be reading it now! It’s my ‘RiWiSi’ (Read it Write it Sell it) book review on my website. Congrats to Jane – well deserved. So too is the award winner ‘Together’ in the Best Contemporary Romantic Novel category – by my mentor Julie Cohen – it’s a superb thought-provoking novel for sure. I’m glad she’s offered to help me once I finish my (long awaited) first draft of French or Dutch. By April 9th. Gulp. … Here’s Julie behind Rowan Coleman and in front of Tamsyn Murray at the awards – looking very vintage!

Watch
This week it’s TV and the return of Cormoran Strike – J K Rowling’s alter-ego, Robert Galbraith wrote this third outing for the unlikely heartthrob, a veteran, amputee Private Investigator, and it’s just aired on iPlayer. You know when a story stays with you long after you finish it? Well that’s this two-parter starring not only hunky Tom Burke (they use clever effects to create his disability – and good acting of course) but also Holliday Grainger playing his outstanding sidekick Robin Ellacott. I loved the books and I loved this crime thriller, which has both characters getting in it up to their necks. Do catch Career of Evil if you can. 9/10 for me. Looking forward to her next Galbraith novel!

This week on QVC

Monday – the return of the super facial-device, the Clarisonic, with the Mia and Alta versions for him and her
Tuesday – Lulu Guinness treats us to another stylish designer tote bag, the large Cesca
Wednesday – Percy & Reed have a powerful new three piece Dream Team Haircare Collection
Thursday – Bodi-Tek return to shopping telly with an Ab Core trainer. I did this brand in 2000 and it’s hard core – literally! Reminds me – note to self – go to gym!
…and Friday is the Nina Leonard button cuff jacket in jersey with pockets – oh goody.

Looking forward to the following Sunday with one of my top brands – as you will see from the programme guide it’s Decleor – and you will be able to get a sneaky peek towards the end of next week!

Next Week
I’ll be back on air on Friday not Thursday as my pal Wendy’s away and I’m looking after a big group of guests on my own – wish me luck! Plus a Mother’s Day – and my first Grandmother’s Day! – outing with the family!

Have a fab week!
Best wishes
Debs

First of all, congratulations to lolly (and you!) and it will be so lovely that Blake has a cousin to have adventures with growing up!
Secondly, I thought it might be four in a bed from your teaser – quite frankly, QVC have missed a trick here, I’m sure that after the Saturday night prank they gained extra viewers/customers and it would’ve been the same with you (its repeated constantly on various channels over and over again unlike SNT!) but of course, the grown ups know ‘best’ 🙂
Take care and keep on smiling! X

Hi Debbie. Love reading all your blogs and keeping up with you on Facebook. Congratulations on becoming a Grandmother, I have 6 Grandchildren and they are a joy to have. Hope you have recovered from your burst pipe in Sheepwash. The snow is very pretty to look at, but a nightmare to travel in, plus all the problems it can bring. Hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day. Xxx

The fuse went & no hot water. No lights upstairs but the rest sorted. Have to look into a stand alone heater. All this due to snow last week. Apparently the Canadians were killing themselves laughing at us Brit’s. Shocking (laughing)
