Had fun at work this week with lovely Chloe backstage, courtesy of the Caudalie Instant Detox mask and scaring everyone! But it helps get ready for big events… like my Valentine’s Day blind date…
First though, here’s my latest competition! I’m giving you the chance to win a fab Doll10 rotating Blendsmart foundation brush and a little bundle of Pixi products. All you have to do to enter: is leave a comment below letting me know what QVC foundation you use. Prize is worth approx. £128. The winner will be picked at random and the comp closes Thursday 23rd midday. QVC’s Standard T & C’s apply – good luck!
Blind Date for Valentine’s
Well Valentine’s Day came and went and I enjoyed my blind date! I’m not allowed to talk about it, partly my decision! But it was a nice meal at a superb restaurant in the city near Liverpool Street. I met under the electronic scoreboard, had a rough idea of what he looked like, but he had actually found out I was on QVC the hour before I got the taxi across so he knew what I looked like too. I’m not allowed to talk about it, but it was a very pleasant night. Another nice event was receiving flowers and Prosecco in the little valentine’s hat box from someone who only signed the card ‘xxx’!
Again I had no idea who it was from! To cap it all off, I have a lunch and a coffee planned with two other people. I may drop some hints as to what’s happening after that but I will not say who it is if anything should be promising 🙂 say no more…
The trouble is, regarding the flowers, I thought initially it may be someone from my friends or family who felt sorry for me 🙂 Then I remembered that anyone who really knows me would not really have bought me alcohol, because I’m not a massive fan. Chocolates maybe, but then I’m not really into chocolates at the moment either. So I just enjoyed the experience of receiving them from a very kind person!
As far as eating goes, I seem to be all over the place at the moment, and last week was particularly busy, so I ended up not being able to cook for myself all the time, and instead just getting salads and things when I’m out. I’m trying to really listen to my body and found as ever that Freedom Eating really works for me, and I am dropping the pounds again. Which is great. I’m feeling fitter as well and stronger too. Which was handy this week when I got locked out of my brothers back garden, where his Annex is, where I stay when I am not in Devon! I had to shin up a six-foot gate! LOL
Anyway what with going to the shard with the lovely Linda magistrates, on Monday, and seeing my lovely friend Goody on Wednesday, my rearranged shifts this week (on Mon to Wed instead of the usual weekend) has flown by. And all because this weekend it’s the vintage tea rooms in aid of the charity Medical Detection Dogs (MDD).
As regulars will know I’m thrilled to be an ambassador for MMD, more here. Well this weekend some of them are actually coming down to the retreat! It will be lovely to see how they get on with my two chocolate labradors, watch out for the pictures next week! And the special vlogs of us all walking together down by the river, assuming there is time.
On the Sunday, QVC’s Charlie Bears guests, Will and Charlie will be coming, and they will be presenting a cheque to MDD. Do join us if you can. But once I go back today (Friday) the most important thing is to bake some lovely cakes! It turns out that Wendy who helps at the retreat is actually a brilliant cook! She made some amazing scones and cheese and onion pasties when the last people were here. I’m only glad I’m not there all the time all my resolve may well not be to listen to my body but to listen to my eyes, and to gobble up all of these delicious treats !
Find out next week about how we got on, and if you’d like to come, it’s in Sheepwash, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, more information on this link.
Up the Shard This week Linda M. and I went to the 52nd floor of the shard, what a lovely view we had, it was really panoramic and it was a clear night too. The Gong bar is on the 52nd floor and is somewhere that most people can just book in and go to, and you enter through the Shangri-La hotel entrance at ground level. The lifts make your ears pop as they go so fast!
New kitchen One of the things I’ve been doing of late is helping to choose the new kitchen for Retreats for You in Devon where I now spend half the week (more here) it’s a white design, not yellow but hopefully it will give a lot more organisation and storage then we have got now. It’s due to be fitted in May so I have a little bit longer to go. Has anyone got any thoughts on induction versus gas versus electric Hobs?
Charlie Bears Valentine Not only are they very generous people, they create some lovely bears, and they have a wonderful relationship! One of my favourite posts on social media from this week was this one from Will, of Charlie Bears. How lovely a moment this is! Here are some amazing Charlie Bears deals, go here and shop early
Outlander – best romantic moments. This was one of my favourite romantic moments this week from Facebook, and the saying is very relevant for the character’s in Diana Gabaldon’s stunning epic saga about Jamie Fraser the Highlander and Claire the time traveller. I cannot wait for season three! If you’re the same, here’s a little video from YouTube with a couple of insights about season three of this amazing series you can see on Amazon Prime, when it comes out. Does anyone know when it’s actually out in the UK?
Spaniel love Went to see my daughter and her fiancé for Sunday dinner and had a lovely cuddle with silly spaniel Luna. I do love these dogs. She and Baloo are just adorable. Had a lovely dog walk in bourne woods too near Farnham.
The wedding plans are all coming on well, and I’m looking forward to seeing the final dress that she chooses. Whilst I was there we looked at a couple from the internet so fingers crossed when they arrive they are more like what she wants. She’s 5 ft 10 and a size 10/12 at the moment so it’s amazing to see her in dresses, proper model-like. Here she is on a hol last summer. Don’t know where she got it from ha ha!
Are you More Primitive than a Neanderthal And what of those expressions on people’s faces when you sit across the table from a loved one and they can read you like a book, or maybe you have your poker face on 🙂 Well I found this on the BBC website this week, talking about why our faces are expressive and how it compares to the Neanderthal man! Given how much I love all things ancient, having done an archaeology A-level, it does fascinate me! Read the article here
Play the cards, right? This week I also consulted a lovely friend who does readings, as I love all that stuff. Take it with a pinch of salt of course but she talks about me getting a lovely new guy coming into my life. More info about it on the latest newsletter on my blog, on my website. Anyway I was quite surprised at what cards were drawn, she said she had never seen a deck like that before!
Book of the Week is a thriller in the vein of Gone Girl and Girl on a Train, called ‘The Girl Before’ – it’s fab! More info here.
Watch, Fifty Shades Darker. Well there is no doubt in my mind it is better than the first film in terms of plot, as it deals with characters’ journeys rather than having a more two-dimensional Christian grey. But Dakota Johnson who in my opinion MADE the first one, did not really shine as much in this one. Nevertheless if you love the books and you like Jamie Byrne, you will almost certainly adore it. Bit clunky in terms of the script and there were a couple of times I reached for the remote control, metaphorically, wishing I could fast forward. Would I see it again? Not sure. 7.5/10
Blooper – last week I got sent this, which someone had found on an old VHS tape at a car boot sale! Another blooper from my years on children’s BBC. How funny! PS I was really bad LOL!
Facebook funny hehe!
This week on QVC – here’s the link to today’s luggage set from Heys, in case you need it for your holiday! And tomorrow’s offer is Mally’s seven-piece make-up collection.
On Sunday we have the massive Richard Jackson flower power 10th anniversary 2.4 kg plant food, go here to get it now.
Next week: It’s fashion all day on Monday with the Women with Control slim leg jeans offer. Then on Tuesday we have a lovely Marla Wynne placement print sweater.
On Wednesday we’ll help your face tone up and look less droopy – it’s the facial toner from NuFace. On Thursday we’re bringing back the Amazon Kindle eReader with my telly hubby Lee Hohbein. Then Friday is all about the seasonal bouquets from Peony, which comes in a gift bag, and will include the option for the autumn delivery.
Next week all about the big Charlie Bears visit to my new place in Devon, and the medical detection dogs too. And what happened at the vintage tea rooms pop-up weekend 🙂 Then another retreat all week, and I may be doing my first shift in the village shop! Loving integrating into the local community right now. There are big things ahead…
Sneaky peek – this time next week you’ll be able to buy the Skechers crochet slip on pump, and Sunday’s huge Liz Earle offers. For more earlybird order links for these products if they come available, you can check out my Facebook page.
Enjoy your week!
