Saturday Night Gifts finale, new promo, and a poorly Gracie!

Star studded SNGThis week –
– SNG finale this Sat with me and Dale

– Big news about my new show Monday nights in the new year

– My sis is 50!

– And some super sneaky peeks! Plus more self-publishing tips – and how to buy my books in a shop!

Gosh nearly the end of the SNG series! One of my highlights was last weekend – a star studded group shot from Saturday Night Gifts (7th) – with John Barrowman and Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen amongst others. News of the finale of SNG is below – it’s this Saturday (14th) – join me and Dale at 8pm.

Watch the clip below of some of the best bits from the shows!

Back to You promoHad a lovely ‘off-air’ work-day on Monday this week, filming a promo in a wonderful old school conversion in Wandsworth, with Steve and the fab promo team. Wait till you see their finished work! And what nice guys. At least my poggies seemed to think so!

Gracie and Daisy will make an appearance in the promo whilst watching me do pilates! It was nice to bring Gracie along, particularly since she had a nasty injury on her eye last week and has to have an operation, on Monday 16th. Poor little mite.

She’s fine tho’ – dogs are resilient aren’t they? Anyway, she was well-behaved and so was Daisy, as we took some lovely relaxing – fun shots all around the house.

Back to You – is the title of the new show. I’d like to know what you think about January. What does January mean to you each year? Do leave me a comment below. I’d love to get your feedback and then I’ll be able to tell you more next week!

Back to meI’ve not been a January fan over the years, so this new show will be a nice lift I think. That is, apart from one year when I went to Gambia on a lovely hol, which was full of TiFFT’s* and nice food.

Well this January, every Monday at 9pm, I’ll hopefully be helping anyone who is like-minded to get the lift they need, so stick it in your diary to join me for some ideas for some lovely ‘me-time’. It’s going to be so much more than just ‘New Year resolutions’!

The hard work of Xmas will be over, so time to dedicate some effort to yourself. What is it you need to sort out in your own life? For me it’s lovely food that I know is good for me – like this ‘meal’ I made this week. Brussels (don’t ask, I just have a thing about them atm!) and adzuki bean pate – absolutely delicious! Not in the same mouthful, Brussel sprouts and aszuke bean patehowever, as I discovered accidentally – yuk! Lol.

Must get ‘back to’ eating more like that in January. I’d like to get ‘back to me’ how my stomach muscles were in the shot above, from 2000, which I keep on my fridge!

It was not long after I left QVC after my first six years here. I was working out a lot that October when I took the kids to Ibiza on my own for the first time since the split, and I’d been eating strict vegan for three months.

Maybe I can do enough in January to get a close approximation of those abs! Don’t know if you don’t try, right? Maybe I can help myself to achieve them with the aid of some of the products we’ll be showing you. Inspiration – supposedly!

What do you do to inspire yourself, when you need to make changes in your life? Do leave me a comment below.

And watch out for the new promo coming soon!

P.S. if you like pet products, see QVC section below for something for pogs from Richard Ward!

Debbie and LindaHad a couple of events to help celebrate my lovely sis (and Red Carpet Manicure guest) Linda Bignell’s big 5-0 birthday this week. Am sure she’ll not mind me mentioning it!

If you’d like to wish her a happy birthday (for the 19th) she’s on Facebook and also @lindabignellqvc!

The big ‘do’ was Smith and Western in Boxhill, with a huge party of us at the ‘Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers tribute night’! And great fun it was too (pic to come!). Happy birthday little sis!

BLOOPER – two for you this week – first, as promised, Chloe on Antthony’s show recently – she’s so funny! Doing a job swap with our lovely model!

[Having trouble viewing this video? See YouTube's Help page

Plus a little bonus blooper – Dale and Charlie’s three hour diamonds show on Monday was not without little mishaps…!

Still to come…which film first featured White Christmas?… and a sneaky peek at the Honora TSV stud earrings set coming up.

Riwisi – READ IT WRITE IT SELL IT – my weekly look at all things book!
In the run up to Xmas I’m accumulating lots and lots of titles for my kindle app, which I’ll read at some point, and am feeling drawn to the Christmassy ones. How to choose? See below.

But am also re-listening to the Bridget Jones’ Diary 3: Mad About The Boy audio book again – I just love Bridget. I just realised how parallel our thought processes have been, what with the sub plot about Hawaii and a yacht! Funny! It got me thinking – there’s a manuscript I must dig out and maybe tell you about in the new year… Anyway, on with this week’s RiWiSi – this week, lots of Ri and a bit of Wi! Lol.

Alison MayBlog of the Week – A change from the usual Book of Week this week – since there are so many seasonal titles to choose from, here’s a lovely little fun write up with some recommendations from fellow @julie_cohen writing retreat attendee, the talented author Alison May. She helps you choose which ones to go for! Do look out for her own work coming next year too! Go here for her full blog.

Women scorned

Heard of this website? ‘Women Scorned’ is a fun new site for jilted or betrayed ladies, and it’s been getting a fair bit of media attention lately! Well they contacted me about featuring my book, and it seems the next logical step for me to promote my books on, they thought, since Sadie my heroine is a betrayed mother maybe there’s a parallel there… More soon about this site.

Mess in lounge Mess in Lounge – ok it’s a good job I live on my own is all I can say! And that xmas present wrapping only happens once a year! Good job I love it! Haha!

Facebook fabulous – finally, just had to include this vid doing the rounds on Facebook this week – so wonderfully festive and puts a smile on your face and a tear in your eye. Imagine if this happened to your kids or your granny! Well done that airline!

Last week on Saturday Night Gifts, the poll asked ‘What’s your favourite Xmas film?’ – 'Love Actually', 'It’s a Wonderful Life', or 'Holiday inn' ('Love Actually' won). Lots of the ‘youngsters’ in the crew that night didn’t know about Holiday Inn! So I thought I’d review it specially!

Some of you might not know this, but 'Holiday Inn' was in fact the first film to feature the famous festive song, ‘White Christmas’. Bing Crosby starred with Fred Astaire in this 1942 black and white classic. It’s unbelievably dated, even compared to the more famous movie actually called ‘White Christmas’ which everyone thinks was the first appearance of the song.

Yet it was made, with Danny Kaye (originally it was going to be Fred Astaire again but he wasn’t free) only 12 years later, and was the biggest hit of 1954. 'Holiday Inn' is very slightly jingoistic too, given it was made three years into WW2.

Holiday InnWell, 'Holiday Inn' has now been re-mastered and colourised too – see the pic – making it much less archaic, in my opinion. Funny how black and white seems so, so old! (And so am I, given that I used to watch kids progs in black and white when I was a nipper!)

Anyway, this film is so charming, and so olde-worlde I just love it – totally un-PC on so many levels, but includes some amazing dance stunts and a classic girl-chooses-between-two-boys storyline – one sings, the other dances. From then on, it’s nostalgia all the way.

If you’ve never seen it and like vintage movies, do give it a go! It gets 8.75 out of ten from me! I love both films actually, And Love Actually, actually…

P.S. Buble Vintage Classic – Apologies about last week’s film, it was a bit hard going ‘cos of the quality! Lol. So here to make it up to you, here’s another lovely little clip to watch – a Buble recreation of some vintage Xmas TV!

David Bowie might have sung ‘Little Drummer Boy’ for real with a much older Bing, but here’s Buble’s offering – it’s fab – and very clever! Enjoy. Any other clips you think I should watch, do put it below!

Jodie PrengerAs you may know by now if you saw The Daily Mirror feature about the launch, it’s Jodi Prenger who will be launching her new fitness DVD with me at midnight on New Year’s Eve – our first TSV of 2014! If you’re a ‘stayer-inn’er’ not a ‘goer-outer’, then join me!

Once the xmas rush is over, on Saturday 21st all day, we’ll be featuring our annual QVC Cares day of charity specials – click here to find out more

Dale DebbieOur final Saturday Night Gifts (14th) will feature none other than the talented K T Tunstall with her music and also a guitar product to buy.

There’ll be nostalgia as well, with our question: ‘Tell us about your favourite present when you were a kid’!

Plus, a special surprise for my co-presenter, Dale – shhh! Don’t tell him! Lol.

Watch this fab highlights videos of this season…

Plus on Sunday it’s the big xmas Laura Geller TSV – another wonderful 6 piece baked selection! Then, a gorgeous Honora set of 6 pairs of stud earrings is Monday’s TSV – fab value again from the lovely Ralph! Watch out for more from me on them soon. That night I’ll also be bringing you 7th Anniversary pricing for Renee’s fashions at 8pm (16th).

Renee - 108497

Honora TSV - 609199

Laura Geller TSV - 203815

And on Last Minute Gifts (with me Thursday 19th, with Dale Friday 20th) we conclude our ‘get there by xmas’ shopping offers with these two 2-hour-finales. In mine on the 19th, Richard Ward will be bringing us his brand new tangle angel – for pets! Pet Angel premieres that day so don’t miss it! Fab idea for pooch lovers! Plus lots of last minute pressie ideas both practical and affordable.

So next week – our infamous cousins pre-christmas bash will have happened and some more pics of family fun!

Have a great week – and do please leave me a comment on the above Back To You segment! Have a great week!

    Hi Debbie
Another fun packed blog. You seem to have boundless energy and drive, which really shows in your attitude. You are one of my favourite presenters because of this and look forward to all your shows.
I love the picture of your six pack and remember mine before I had my daughter nearly twenty years ago. I am trying to get something near to a flat stomach as possible but it is hard. I may need to up my gym visits to 3 or 4 times a week instead of 2 to 3. I look forward to your new show for some inspiration.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next blog.

    Hello Debbie.
Fabulous blog as usual, full of really interesting snippets. It is like a magazine!
What do I think of January? well I always feel it is a long dark bleak month after all the Christmas festivities. The dark nights can be very depressing so it is a good month to start a night class or begin a new hobby.
Money can be tight so visiting friends and family is a good option instead of going out.
I wish you and yours a wonderful Happy and Peaceful Christmas.
p.s. Looking forward to reading your second book which is waiting for me on my kindle!

  4. Anita December 14, 2013 at 1:19 am -  Reply

Thanks Debs, looking forward to receive the book.
Unfortunately this January changed for me when my mother passed away but in her memory I shall resume Marlene’s diet next month as I’ve let it slip.
I look forward to your new show to help me through. x

Dear Debbie, I read your blog quite often and very entertaining and informative it always is. I shall look forward to your new show in January hopefully it will inspire me to do something to improve my fitness level and diet, I often look at our Pilates machine and Stepper but of course they are no use at all unless you use them, I wish I had the energy you have. I hope that your dog has recovered from her operation now. I do have a question for you, I wonder if you know what the piece of lovely piano music is which is played between items on your QVC extra channel, I believe it is part of some library music which QVC have I thought perhaps you might be able to find out what it is and maybe you could let me know I would be most grateful. Jenny Stanford.

    Hi Debbie,
I know that you and Debbie Greenwood are friends and wonder what has happened to her on QVC. As another Liverpudlian and remember her winning Miss New Brighton years ago I an concerned. Norma

    Hi Debbie
Congrats on the new show – well deserved.
Would be grateful if you could get Paul McKenna onto your show because I could do with a bit of motivation when it comes to exercise during these cold, damp, dark winter months. You can only do so much walking and watching of exercise DVD’s – motivation and enthusiasm eludes me, I’m afraid.
My ‘Get up and go’ has got up and gone, so would welcome a bit of advice as to how to shift myself from a lovely, warm, cosy, snug-as-a-bug home to the chilliness of the outside.
Thank you and happy Christmas to you and yours.

    Hi Debs
Coincidentally, my two boxers have had eye operations this year. Oscar has had two ulcers removed; Caspar is currently wearing a ‘lampshade’ – is Gracie wearing one? – to stop him scratching his eye, and to keep the stitches in place, after his ulcer was removed. Mum lamented “Poor Cas, he’s going to have it on for xmas”, to which I replied “Mum, he won’t know it’s xmas!” He’s getting the sutures out Monday so, hopefully, he won’t have to wear it much longer. I would rather go through it, than have my babies suffer. The ‘pet angel’ seems ideal for short haired dogs. The hair doesn’t get knotted but, if it massages as well, I’m sure they will love it. Got their food ordered for Christmas – I’ve got my priorities right, their’s were the first pressies I bought! Well, Debs, hope you have a wonderful, peaceful xmas with the family, and a productive 2014. Like my guys, I know your’s will be spoilt rotten – will they have a xmas lunch?
    Take care, and best wishes.

    Donna/Chocobicki –
Ahh yes the fated six pack! it was more of a four to be honest, but was indeed also the result of many gym sessions and no carbs. Will have to get back to that in Jan, you never know what lies beneath the ‘cushioning’ layers eh! hehe!
My new show will indeed give you some little hints and tips on how to get ‘back to you’…
big hugs and ta for watching!

And yes I agree about January – made worse by it being my accounting month too – tons of admin!
Great idea about beginning a new hobby – if you start one, let me know

it’s interesting how many people ‘let it slip’ – for all good reasons too – then get back to the macrobiotic diet eventually. And that’s ok. Long as it’s what we do mostly, huh? I do hope the new show is going to be helpful to everyone in the way you’ve described! It’s lots of normal products too but packaged with some new year new you inserts. Will be fun!

    Jenny –
How lovely of you to leave me a comment! Many people looking for inspiration themselves so we’ll be in it all together I think. Hope that helps!
Funny what you say about ‘looking at the pilates machine and stepper!’ – am sure lots of people are in the same boat!
REf the library music – I think it’s just a library track, so unavailable for purchase, but if I find out any different I will of course let you know!
Thanks so much again – lovely to hear from you!

    interesting questions hon!
We used to have Paul McKenna on didn’t we, ages ago? no plans to get him again I’m afraid.
But I would recommend ‘Excuses Begone’ by Wayne Dyer – do try to see if you can get a copy on audio book – that’s what inspires me most, listening to him talk.
Also I really believe that nutrition makes a huge difference to motivation too – see for some great articles on food and health.
then we just have to do it eh!
Keep me informed how you get on ok?

as you may have seen from my xmas blog, my hounds each got a hugely-huge bone for xmas lunch! A couple have sensitive stomachs so I don’t vary it too much, but they got some new squeaky toys too!
Yes Gracie’s lampshade is removed now, and it’s all on the mend – new fake eye in place, and she seems none the wiser. Am still definitely thinking of putting a patch on her – and a parrot on her shoulder! hehe!
