My beauty consultation with Ruth Langsford

A gruelling fitness regime, dance practice and heavy TV make-up are all sure to take their toll on your skin. Lack of sleep and hours spent on your feet can can also lead to dehydrated skin! So how do you keep that youthful-looking glow even on tired days when you’d rather be tucked up in bed? Here our expert Alison Young offers Ruth Langsford her top beauty tips and skincare favourites for maintaining that luminous complexion.

Caring for your neck and decollete:
Beauty BioScience Cellular Renewal Treatment and GloPro Microstimulation Facial Tool – exfoliation for the face, neck and chest.

It’s all too easy to neglect your neck and decollet from your skincare regime, but caring for this area is key to creating a firm, youthful look. To help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, I recommend using the Beauty BioScience Cellular Renewal Treatment. This two-step treatment combines an intense exfoliating scrub and a lightweight Activating Gel, which when combined create a powerful foaming mask.

I also recommend investing in a Beauty BioScience GloPro Microstimulation Facial Tool. This fabulous little device uses GloPro patented technology and micro-needling to help gently slough away dead skin cells and promote a radiant-looking complexion. After cleansing, roll your GloPro over your face, neck and decollete, using moderate pressure to cover each area 4 – 10 times, changing the direction with each pass. Follow with your favourite serum within the first minute of use and get ready to glow!

Regaining plumpness, elasticity and moisture:
Decleor Aroma Svelt Body Refining Oil Serum and Aroma Svelt Firming Oil-In Body Cream – intense moisture for the neck, decollete and body.

To kickstart your new skincare regime, I suggest using a combination of Decleor Aroma Svelt Body Refining Oil Serum and Aroma Svelt Firming Oil-In Body Cream as an intense neck treatment. These two luxe moisturisers are also fantastic for encouraging top-to-toe results on your whole body, particularly as your body shape begins to change. Once you’ve achieved your desired results, you can reduce your treatment to your usual neck cream.

Counteracting the effects of heavy TV make-up and tiredness:
Gatineau Aqua-Ressourcant Mask and Liz Earle Superskin Overnight Mask – for quenching thirsty skin and encouraging a plump, hydrated look.

These multi-use masks are perfect for encouraging a youthful-looking glow and can be used as a treatment or in place of your usual night cream. Simply apply lavishly to your face, neck and decollete, leave to absorb for 10 – 15 minutes, then massage any remaining product into your skin.

To supercharge your new regime, try forgoing your night cream and instead massage one of these luxury masks into your face, neck and decollete until absorbed by your skin. This will take a little longer than your usual evening skincare routine, but is practically the equivalent of a weeks-worth of night cream in one use! Plus, with your particular skin concerns, you really can’t use too much of these deeply-hydrating formulas. As time goes on and you begin to see results from this ‘catch up’ technique, you can sense by the look and feel of your skin how often you need to use your masks.

Caring for fatigued muscles after dance practice:
Elemis Aching Muscle Supersoak, SBC Intensive Arnica Gel and SBC Arnica Gel – for helping you relax and relieve tired, aching muscles.

These three key products are absolute must-haves for helping you survive intense dance and fitness programmes.

First things first, you’ll need a nice warm bath to help you fully unwind. Pour three capfuls of Elemis Aching Muscle Supersoak to your running bath and immerse yourself for 10 – 15 minutes. This incredible foaming bath smells amazing, with lavender, wild thyme and blue chamomile extracts, and is sure to help you cool off after a long day spent on your feet.

Before going to bed, liberally apply SBC Intensive Arnica Gel, paying special attention to any achy, fatigued areas. This warming gel has a strong effect and can leave a slight residue, so I recommend using it at home and taking the original SBC Arnica Gel to use throughout dance training for any soreness or bruising.

Alison, we can all use the advice you passed on to Ruth every day. Especially using the arnica products.
