Rocky, Joan Rivers and more: our trip to NYC!

Jill on Broadway, ready to see Rocky the musicalLarry and I decided to get some head space recently and spend some time with friends after an emotional roller coaster of the last 12 weeks. We took some time out with Mr B, and then popped over the pond to the US to see some dear friends.

Many of you have asked about Mr B and I must say he is doing well, maybe lost a little of his confidence, but he's growing in strength and is and has always been a beautiful-natured little boy who loves and lives life to the full.

Our dear friends continued the search for Scruncher whilst we were away, whilst we kept up to date online. It also gave me a chance to get back to some Pilates. I can't ever imagine my life without it every day. I never forget moving house and insisting my fitness equipment, including my Pilates machine had to be on the van last so it could be offloaded first allowing for set-up on the same day..I realised then it was so important to me and not just a hobby but actually part of my everyday makeup.

The Golden Circle show ticketWe took a trip to New York to see the Premiere of the musical Rocky on Broadway, based on the film that made Sylvester Stallone a Hollywood star. It was sensational and received a standing ovation. If you ever get the chance to go, book tickets in the Golden Circle – the last 20 minutes of the show you get to go up on stage and be part of the final fight scene. It was an incredible experience and so much fun. The cast was outstanding and received rave reviews.

Ready to battle! Jill on BroadwayJill at the theatre, ready to see Rocky!

New York was freezing. I was so pleased I took my thermal underwear, as it was so cold it actually felt like my ears were being frostbitten. -13 degrees centigrade is not much fun if you are not prepared!

The one and only Joan RiversWe also went to see Joan Rivers' one-woman show. I laughed so much I thought I was actually going to burst, my sides ached! She never disappoints and I love the shock value. The lady next to me never smiled once! Surely you know what you're going to experience with JR! She stayed until the end so she must have enjoyed some of it. Of course QVC didn't get away without a mention. It was a night to remember and we were still laughing the next day.

Jill and Ralph Rossini from Honora PearlsWe took some time to visit my dear friend Ralph Rossini (from Honora Pearls) and his truly gorgeous wife Jenny. We had so much fun and we wanted to say thank you for their kindness in the search for Scruncher. I couldn't go home without also saying a big thank you to Lenny Feinberg who was more than generous to help find Scruncher. A gesture I will never forget and that came from the bottom of his heart. We had a great trip…I have to say I was glad to put the thermals away and get back to the sunshine for our final few days!

The trip did us good, sometimes you just have to step away from the moment to help understand…
We have had a call this week from a bulldog breeder who has a puppy that needs a good home and wants to know if we would be interested. We will never give up looking for Scruncher and no other bulldog will or could ever replace him. Mr B would love a little friend, I know that much. It would never be the same, it would just be different. Sometimes, you just don't know if I am honest but it may help us all, help ease the pain whilst we maintain our search for Scruncher in the hope he comes home to one big happy family again. We are under no pressure and will see how we feel. One thing we have learnt is that we don't do anything unless it feels right.

I will keep you updated after we see the breeder this week.

Anyway, to you all we send you our love from Mr B and Larry.
I know Scruncher will be sending his love too thanking you for looking out for him every second of everyday. Your kindness and support has been overwhelming and gives us the strength to carry on.

    Hi Jill,
It sounds as if your holiday was great, just what you both needed after all the heartache of Schruncher. The musical sounded really good, and a Joan Rivers show would be full of laughter, she comes over as a lovely full of fun sort of person
As I wrote on your last blog I feel for you both with regard to Shruncher, I love my dogs like you do. So glad Mr B is okay, he must miss Shruncher so much. With regard to the new puppy that is something as you say you must give a lot of thought to. Yes you have lots of support in the search for Shruncher and I am sure it will continue until he is found.
Anyway I do hope he comes home to you soon, I check everyday to see if he has been found.
    Take care.
    Love Jean xx

Hi Jill, so glad to hear of your much needed break. 30+ years ago I lost my dear son at 6 months old in a matter of hours’ with as little warning as you lost dear Scruncher; I know there will be people throwing their hands up in the air and claiming that a dog is not a child, but as someone who has lost a child, I certainly do not subscribe to that opinion. The grief & despair that emanated from you was so tragically familiar & I know that you miss your boy as much as I miss mine. Receiving & giving unconditional love is not just the prerogative of humans, of that much I am sure. I really just wanted to say that although Scruncher can never be & will never be, replaced, your broken hearts need an outlet; I was not supposed to be able to have more children but a brilliant surgeon enabled me to have a darling little girl. Of course she did not replace my darling boy, but it gave something for my heart to focus on & this mischievous bundle of joy (who is now 30 herself) turned my life around & is still doing so today. When you are ready, be it today, tomorrow or longer, another friend for Mr B will be a balm for you all and if Scruncher does come home as everyone hopes, an extra friend for him too. With best love to you & your lovely Larry.

    Dear Jill,
You more than deserved a good break, you both needed it. I am really pleased to hear that you had a lovely time – being onstage (I know you are a stage actress too) with all the cast must have been amazing! So glad you enjoyed the Joan Rivers’ show whatever the lady next to you did or didn’t think of it! I watched The Piano (Holly Hunter, Anna Paquin) about 20 years ago with a good friend – she virtually just sniffed and showed little reaction all the way through. At the end she commented on what a great film it was – strange!
I have a card on our noticeboard which says “A real friend walks in when the rest of the world walks out.” It sounds like Ralph and Lenny have been true friends to you and I am so glad everyone has rallied round all of you, you deserve it.
Take care, a big hug to you, Larry and MrB and you do what is right for you.

I cannot believe how strong you are being; I would be devastated and I want to cry when you say such lovely words about Scruncher. Somebody out there knows where he is and I hope and pray for your sake that they find it in their heart to let him come home where he belongs. xx

    Hello Jill
So sad to read that Scruncher is still missing, I hope with all my heart he is found soon. Thinking of you everyday, do consider a little friend for MrB, he must feel the loss as much as you and your husband. Thank you for finding the time to keep all of us updated, it is appreciated.
    Best wishes

    Hi Jill,
Scrunchers story has touched my heart as I have two rescue border collies and they are my world. I recently saw a Facebook story of two dogs who were reunited with their owner after 12 months and 16 months, so don’t give up hope. Someone must know something.

    Hi Jill
I have not posted a message before but after reading about Scruncher I felt I needed to send you a message of support. I love dogs but as I work I settled for 2 rescue cats called Oscar & Olivia and like you I would be devastated to lose either. I truly hope that Scruncher is returned to you either by a kind soul or he himself just turns up. A new companion for you all may be just what is needed to soothe your broken hearts. Lots of love to both you & Larry and the lovely Mr B.

    Hi Jill,
So glad you had a break away, I feel sure you both needed it.
I have to say I did my bit on a Scuncher search…my son’s girlfriend runs cross country and at the last one there were 3 groups of people together with bulldogs, 8 in total- which to be honest is not the norm at such events!!!!
Under the pretence of following the race I had a good look….so much so, I ended up following them for a bit and my husband followed me(as they do) thinking I knew a short cut.
When I was satisfied none were Scruncher I turned round to see he was right behind looking at me most oddly -‘ What are you doing?’
Was followed by ‘Well obviously looking for Scruncher!’.
…add bemused to looking at me oddly!
As a dog lover, owner of 3,and as someone who cares,
Hope you didn’t mind me sharing that story …but it shows we are all looking and keeping our eyes open xxxx
    Much love

Hi Jill Yes you both deserve a break. I wish I had the power to wish Sruncher back to you. Hope you did enjoy your break from home. If we could just know our missing friend is being looked after I think I could handle that. It is the not knowing that gets to you some times. Look after one another, gather strength from each other, may be it will help, the love you share will keep you strong. Thinking of you both. Try to enjoy Easter.
    Lots of love
P.S if my 2 little Chihuahua could speak they would say love will help you in your times with a troubled heart. Take care be safe. Love from Rio and Dexter.

My pet rabbit Bryan died in June last year & I’ve struggled with him not being in our lives. I felt by getting another rabbit I would be replacing him & I didn’t and couldn’t do that. I do love rabbits though & I’m hoping in time we will be able to home one or two, but not just yet; it’s still too raw.
My sister did get us a kitten in the summer though, who we have called Mo, as the new house felt strange without an animal running around.
Whatever decision you come too regarding a friend for Mr B will be the right one & you just have to believe that once you’ve made it. Good Luck.
