Retreats for you – and me – in Devon, networking nights, and the funny face of selly-telly

Debbie and LeeThis week –

– An elemis sneaky peek (TSV Sunday)

– Networking with Mr H – a fab night out at Chelsea FC Hotel venue – more about that below

– Selly telly funnies incl Eddie Murphy film – inspiration for my next novel, Easter ‘14

– And the most unusual phone box in the UK?

– Plus sneaky peeks and QVC secrets!

First, STOP PRESS! Friday Night Beauty will feature a stunning try me set from Percy and Reed – don’t miss it with me at 9pm (on 4th) plus on Saturday – Dr Murad’s amazing skincare range returns! He’s so knowledgeable and his books – like this one – are very interesting.

Murad Internationally renowned expert and skincare author Dr Murad, the ‘godfather’ of specialist skincare, has recorded a video for us to watch during my 6pm show on Saturday (5th).

It’s seriously good stuff, including anti-wrinkle, firming, and collagen treatments. His son Jeff will be back with the brilliant discovery set – but from my facial on Thursday, I can tell you the results really were immediate, and the celebrity following is considerable.

Kim Cattrell (Samantha from Sex in the City) tweeted recently that she recommends Murad for sensitive skin and under eye creams. Plus the science behind the brand is impressive.

If you like it, do tweet me during the show on @debbieflint. If you can’t Kim Cattrall tweetwait, or you missed it, the range is here.

Last Week’s Competition Winner – is Sue Robinson! Sue has won last month’s bumper bundle of goodies in my Mothers’ Day giveaway comp, plus she chose a signed copy of Till the Fat Lady Slims – it’s on its way to you hon! Next month – some Murad goodies!

Writing deskSo on with my news, and I had a lovely weekend in Devon at Retreats For You writing venue, again with Julie Cohen. Am typing like crazy to get my next novel ready for the Easter publishing date – it's Diary of a Wannabe Shopping Channel Presenter, and is like Bridget Jones meets Alan Partridge meets Eddie Murphy in movie Holy Man (see 'watch' below!).

Once again, my mentor Julie ironed out a couple of little niggles that were troubling me, and I finished up the weekend with the first third practically done.

Debbie and the girls in DevonIt was great to connect with the other girls again. Pictured here with me are Jane O’Reilly (author of the week – see RiWiSi below), organiser Deborah, Julie, and Rosemary Dun. The other writer, June, was upstairs recovering from doing some Bodyblading – yes I challenged them to see who could do it longest – haha!

We'd just had the most amazing lunch – all lunches and dinner are also included in the amazing £72.50 per night price (min two nights – anyone can book it, it's like a B&B) – as is the wine! And chocolate gluten free brownies (my undoing, I must admit! Hence B2U pic is put off till next week lol).

The views from my window were fab (above pic), but I mostly wrote through the night. Julie did drag me out for a wonderful walk though; Debbie and Julie songdown by the meandering river in that Sunday sunshine, amidst carpets of yellow and white woodland flowers with the sun glancing off the water.

On the way back we passed a little quirk to the village of Sheepwash – a phone box lending library – what a great idea!

There were loads of books in there, and people just come to borrow and swap to their heart's content!

After leaving on Sunday I saw my pal Alix, who always makes me Phonebox exchangesmile, and then it was back to the poggies.

It's unusual having only three now, I caught myself a couple of times this week saying 'I have four… Er three, Labradors,' but it's ok. We all miss Holly (see last week's blog) but apart from Daisy being off her breakfast a couple of mornings, they seem to have got over it very quickly.

Next week Lauren and Nick will be living with me, along with little Baloo, so they will get lots of attention when I'm off 7-12th for my other ‘using-up-annual-leave’ mini break – a yoga retreat – in (yes, you've guessed it) Devon! Lol.

Debbie and LeeOn Thursday this week, I had another TiFFT*, attending a 300-people networking party at Chelsea FC hotels venue 'Under The Bridge'.

It used to be a club but now they do lots of corporate events, private shows etc (Alex in marketing told us she recently had a Gary Barlow event!).

Well, my TV Husband Lee Hohbein and I enjoyed the entertainment, the drinks, the ambiance, and chatted to a few people – but mostly to each other. It's been a while since we had a catch up!

PianoWe watched some fantastic acts, provided by Young Guns events. Including the most brilliant beat-boxer, a skilled young pianist, and a couple of fab groups.

The idea behind making myself say "yes" to this is that somehow I'm casting my socialising net further afield in the effort to locate myself a husband. Haha!

No, but seriously, later this year I'll finally share with you what I've been working on (and no, it's not Lee Hohbein…! Lol! We're not each other's type, before you say it – or think it! Lol).

What I’ve been working on is in fact an idea for a dating concept, but I've got to do the research first, right?! Want to help me?

Well, if you know of anyone who might be a good match for me, they can help me work out the rudiments of the process (and no, that's not a euphemism)! Tell them to email me and say what our first date would be. Ok? Haha!

Anyway, seriously, socialising with brand new people is hard for me cos I'm actually quite shy. Yes really. Anyone else the same? Well the 'experts' say you have to at least go out and not be staying in all the time, or you've got no chance, unless there's a fanciable random – like a washing machine engineer or a delivery guy turning up on your doorstep.

Where I am it's quite in the sticks so, short of hanging out permanently in the pub nearby, I don't really meet people if I stay at home. So there you go. Now you will know why I keep doing all these new things!

Why don't you do it too? Make an effort to get outside your comfort zone, break from routine, and put yourself out there, whilst visualising yourself successfully meeting someone special. Or having a few fun dates? Let's do it together right?

They don't call me the eternal optimist for nuffink!

And meanwhile I’ll just keep writing about romantic heroes…

Still to come…poshest loos ever!… sneaky peeks at this weekend’s Bose, Mally and Kim & Co TSV’s… and news of my Easter bonanza!

Book of the Week

Indecent ExposureI just had to feature some steamy romance this week, since one of my fellow novelists on the writing retreat is an accomplished author already – she’s published online with Carina imprint.

Jane O’Reilly is also one of the funniest ‘tweeters’ on the web (@janeoreilly). Her steamy (very steamy – prepare for 40-50 Shades!) trilogy is on Amazon and the first one is called Indecent Desires – about a female photographer – give it a go if you like your shades hot!

She’s also written other novels too – and she’s very witty, so her books are bound to be good! – Go here to see her titles on Amazon. And let me know what you think by leaving a comment here – info is at bottom on how to do so if you’ve never commented before.

Over on my website, more for self-publishers – including the aftermath of my Mothers’ Day promotions on RiWiSi Go Large – how do you measure self pub success? Plus how to become a writing machine!

We’ve reached 800 members! Yayyy! It’d be lovely to get to 1000 by the September return of the weekly Back to You show on QVC UK. Had some great posts this week – including this one from Zoe Muggeson Heath – just love those before and afters!

800 Zoe Back to You

Over on Back To You Monday Update on my own website, find out more about meditation, stretching and the fab book ‘The Emotion Code’ by Bradley B Nelson, pinning down reasons why trapped emotions cause problems.

ChocolateAnd the Funny pic from our group this week is this one – how funny! And sooooo true about the shoes! Anyone who knows me knows I’m a shoes person!

In fact, I wished I’d worn higher heels when out with Lee on Thursday, as I couldn’t see over the top of people’s heads! Mind you, the purple boots went down a storm! (No connection to the ones on the cover teaser, honest!)

Come join in on Facebook! Just over 820 members on Back to You QVC group this week! Whoop! ‘Back to You QVC’ (open) group, on Facebook. Or for the closed group, search ‘Break the Habit BTU’.

Fuji cameraSneaky peeks – Elemis sneaky peek for Sunday this week – just have to show you in advance! I hope there’s some left for my 10pm! Then the Kim and Co TSV Sunday night at midnight is this fab top and scarf set. And casting ahead a week or so, here’s a true sneaky peek at Mat Trim’s Fuji Camera Today’s Special Value – join me at midnight on Sunday night 14th.

Kim & Co

Mat TrimGuest Laffs – And in fact, Mat Trim’s post this week on Facebook was too much for me to resist! Hehe! I hope he got it!

NALOPKT – not a lot of people know that! Famous people who came for QVC auditions at one point include allegedly, a younger Dale Winton (before it launched) and a fresh faced Gok Wan as a fashion guest (he went on to greater things instead!) Plus for those who don’t know, our first co-launch-presenter with our Julia Roberts, was none other than Voice of Siri, John Briggs!

This week – and don’t forget the Murad hour with me and hunky Jeff – I mean Jeff – Saturday (5th) at 6pm… ; – ) and our fantastic Bose Wave Music system with Bluetooth TSV on Saturday too – hope I get some left for my 8pm show!

Plus the wonderful Mally TSV Sunday – same thing re my 10pm show! I won’t be too happy if it’s all gone!

Mally TSV

This week was Craigy's turn to get some TLC from QVC!

Snippets –
The clear out continues – we took another eight bags of ‘stuff’ to the dump, to the charity shops and for Mum to try on, in the run-up to my daughter Lauren moving back in to save for a house. What a palaver! It’s been non-stop I have to say – so much so, that I’m looking forward to going back into work for a rest! Hehe! I could have taken a pic of bin bags but I thought I’d spare you…! Lol.

Meeting up with school pals – I was actually in a pub nearby on Wed night this week, to meet up with my two oldest school friends Sharon and Dawn. We put the world to rights over fish cakes and goats cheese salad. We were reminiscing about things like the old cinema in Morden, (where I saw Jungle Book circa 1971) (I think!).

Jungle Book

  B and Q

It felt really funny saying things like: 'Remember when we were twelve, in Mrs Jones' class at Morden Farm Middle and the boys misbehaved so she cancelled our trip to Express Dairies?' Thinking back that far and being able to discuss it with non-family was really, really nice. We're doing it again in June!

Posh Ladies’… amaaaazing loos – now I may be easily pleased, but this week, when I went for my Murad training (see above), I had a facial in the Urban Retreat in Harrods. Well the facilities are… opulent, shall we say? Talk about hi-tech! You just have to watch this…! Lol

[Having trouble viewing this video? See YouTube's Help page

Facebook funFacebook funny – this tickled me this week, doing the rounds on Facebook! Hehe! It’s his face that makes me laff so much!

WATCH – Eddie Murphy in 'Holy Man'
Ok, so it’s not a recent movie, but it’s got to be the Holy Grail of funny selly-telly films! Eddie Murphy plays a guru who turns around the fortunes of Jeff Goldblum’s shopping channel with a slot called The G Spot and… oh you just have to watch it! Search it on YouTube for more! Lol.

It got a massive 9/10 when I first watched it – and it’s right up there with one of my fave movies of all time – for obvious reasons! Now perhaps about 8. BTW There may be elements of it in my new book Diary of a Wannabe Shopping Channel Presenter out at Easter! Lol.

NEXT WEEK – the clear out comes to fruition as Lauren moves back in – and a yoga break – getting my body in shape for the summer! With a ‘belfie’ – will you be able to take it! Lol

Have a fab week!
Best wishes

    Hi Debs,
Loved your free kindle book When Dreams Return, didn’t take me long to get it read! Can’t wait for the next one, definitely a big fan of your writing :-).
Wanted to let you know that you have persuaded me to buy the Leg master, I do quite a bit of exercise – mainly Zumba and Pilates so have quite toned legs but am wanting to try and slim them down. Anyway I have had the Leg master for a week and am already starting to see results from just doing it for 2 mins a day! I also can’t believe how puffed out it gets you after such a short amount of time! Hoping to see continued results.
Looking forward to the Elemis TSV.
    Have a good week.

    Hi Deb
I love reading your blogs and belong to both fb sites (not that I ever write anything).
You asked about DATING – im 47 and the only divorced one amongst all my friends, so how do you meet someone, I hardly ever go out except for work etc – my kids, family and friends all say I should join a dating site not sure if for me, not good at writing about myself also quite shy just like you. I would never dream of walking in a pub on my own, easier for men to do this. So where do you start?
    Love Deb

    Hi Debbie
Agree with the lady (Deb) who’s replied about the dating thing – where do men in their 40’s, 50’s etc hang out??
There’s nothing for the over-50’s where I live (all the over-50 men are chasing women in their 30’s – and get them!!) so there’s no hope for me, and friends are either into the ‘pubbing and clubbing’ scene or else are married for 30 years and never go out socially – I’m at risk of becoming a recluse!!!!
BUT THERE’S A GLIMMER OF HOPE. My male co-worker tells me that men our age tend to have specific hobbies (motorbikes, cars, railways, boats, photography etc) and that to meet them, WE need to go where THEY go.
I just foresee a sea of anoraks (not just of the cloth variety)!!
    Hey ho …..
PS Why don’t you get your pal Lee’s advice – he seems a ‘man about town’.

Debbie, I have downloaded your two Hawaiian books from Amazon ready to read soon. Very interested in your Devon “Retreats for You”. Will pass info on to my cousin who self published his first book not long ago. He is trying to promote it and I will pass on your website to him for hints and help. The book is called “THE MURDER TREE” by Alan Veale. It’s a thriller with New York/Glasgow connections based on a true event, available to download on Amazon. It’s a great holiday read, if you can add it to your list of books to read I would really appreciate it.
LOVE watching you on QVC, you are really bubbly and I’m sure your husband-hunting will come to fruition from the most unexpected source, as these things often happen. Sorry to hear about losing your lovely labrador. I’ve been there and it’s heartbreaking, you just love them to bits. Grace x
