Reasons to Smile

On last week’s blog I posted the video of me applying the fabulous Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Beauty Product of the Month. If you’ve got yours, I wonder what you think of the fab new Rose and Lychee fragrance? I love it; floral and fruity fresh all in one! Anyway, I wasn’t able to fast forward and show you the end result of sitting with it on my hair for four hours, but I can this week. Look at the shine it gives my hair – amazing stuff. By the way, the curls were added by lovely Rachel, one of our amazing make-up artists who also took the photo! Nice one, Rachel.

I have an even bigger reason to smile today though. Yesterday was my latest appointment with my CML professor and… (a drum roll is in order here)… my numbers are only showing the tiniest increase in disease and so I’m allowed another three months medication-free. I’m especially delighted as that will of course include the wedding. You can imagine the width of my grin as I waltzed out of his office, but not without warning him first to keep his hands off Wilfried Zaha… my prof’s an Arsenal fan!

It’s been another busy week both at QVC and in my home life. The party I mentioned on last week’s blog was good and, despite overnight rain and grey clouds in the morning, it brightened up to a lovely sunny afternoon. It’s an annual party hosted by different residents on our lane and is a great opportunity to meet up with the neighbours, or in some cases, meet new neighbours. Imagine my surprise when I was chatting away to a lady called Jane and we realised that she had actually been a guest presenter on QVC about fifteen years ago! She said she thought I looked familiar – small world. It was also lovely that the hosts, Frazer and Tracy, invited both our children and their partners (and family in Sophie’s case). We all had a great time and were actually the last to leave. Talking of my daughter, Sophie, she took this selfie of herself and Reece posing in MY sun hat, which she rather took a fancy to. The annoying thing is that it suits her better than me, but she’s still not having it as I’ll be needing it in Mauritius.

Actually, I’ve just booked for Chris and I to stay on in Mauritius for an extra week for our honeymoon. We had been undecided what to do, but my BIG boss at QVC (yes you, Mike) said, as I had booked the time off and we were already there we should have a week on our own to get used to being Mr and Mrs – yes, Boss! We’re moving hotels but staying in the north, as it is apparently less windy than the south in the summer months. We will need the R & R after ten days with everybody wanting to ‘do’ stuff, when all I really want to do is swim and sit reading – that’s not really true, I’m looking forward to trying archery and some of the water sports.

You’ll be pleased and probably a little relieved to hear that I have finally made an appointment for next Tuesday with a wedding dress maker! I know it’s a bit last minute but sometimes it’s better that way! All our QVC guests keep asking me about it, particularly the fashion guests. Speaking of which, I wonder if you happened to catch this funny moment when I was on air with Glen Campbell on Wednesday.

He had been talking about chinos and I kept thinking about Chino in West Side Story, which is my favourite movie soundtrack of all time. All of a sudden I burst into song, and that was before the good news about my CML results!! And yet another reason for me to smile… they are doing a remake of the film. I’m very, very excited about that. I know what you’re thinking about my ‘vocal’ – don’t give up your day job, or should that be ‘jobs’!

The deadline for this round of edits on my next book is Monday, so I’m going to have a busy weekend, particularly as we are going to watch Sophie and her stepdaughter, Amber in their dance show on Sunday. Oh well, who needs sleep?

I’m returning the favour, as Sophie came to my Radio Nottingham interview with me on Monday. As luck would have it, she works round the corner from Wogan House from where we did the live link-up. I was pleased my mum was able to listen and I gave her a few mentions, along with chatting about Little Girl Missing and of course QVC. It was also interesting to discover off air that Alan Clifford, who had invited me to guest on his show, is originally from Crystal Palace and is still a Palace fan.

Well that’s about it for me for this week as I have another two ‘dates’ with Glen Campbell on the QVC Style channel today – 3pm and 6pm. I did just want to give you a heads up, though, that the Elemis TSV for Sunday 21st goes on pre-sale this coming Monday, 15th. As usual, it is a cracking collection, including some of my Elemis favourites; Cleansing Micellar Water, Peptide4 Night Recovery Cream-Oil, a choice of Pro-Collagen Marine Cream and (perfect for my wedding) Frangipani Monoi Bath & Shower Milk and Oil-Rich Body Cream. It also features the Peptide4 Plumping Pillow Facial. More details on here next week.

Have a great weekend,
Much love,
Julia xx

      Hi Denise
I am over the moon to still be off my meds. My levels are minute 0.010 – they have been lower but because they are still stable the prof is happy for me to stay off the drugs for the time being. I have seen a dress now so I won’t need to get my sewing machine out. I hope your levels will lessen soon

    Hi Julia
Happy to hear your good news but you’ve not even mentioned the England cricket team
    In the World Cup final
    On Sunday.
    Not happened since 1979

      Hi Hilly
Very remiss of me – not really a cricket fan but how fantastic that they won! And such a close result too. Unfortunately, I missed all of it as I was editing…. and the tennis…. and the Grand Prix 🙁

      Hi Elaine
It is exciting – the time is right for us now. We are getting married on 27th August which would have been my mum and dad’s platinum wedding anniversary – our wedding bands are platinum in their honour.
Thanks for your kind comments about my presenting

    Hi Julia,
So pleased with your results, lets hope next time you go that niggley bit has gone. Nice sun hat, i do have one, my hair is getting a bit thin on top so i need to protect my scalp a bit. Ive had a biopsy, and all is normal, so i must be doing something right with me being a Vegetarian now for 18 months. I have quite thick hair cut in choppy layers not as dark as yours though… My Dermatoligst has given me some treatment and advised me on some extra vitamins… 🙁 I don’t blame you staying in Mauritius a bit longer, just relax after your big day. I’m not on Twitter or F/b so don’t know if you have mentioned the hotel you are staying at but when we go at the end of Jan next year, we are staying at The Westin Turtle Bay, we have booked a meeting at The Maritim Resort and also a hotel in Flic en Flac just to look round …. really looking forward to it. We have 3 years to decide, so no rush ! Its our 7th Anniversary in September, where has the time gone, Hope you get your dress sorted not long to go now, will be interesting to see what style and colour you will choose. Before i go, ive had my results back from the DNA test….. won’t bother with percentages but area’s are North England ie Yorkshire, Lancashire, Germany/ Holland, Southern Europe with a bit of France. Well i was suprised. I think i might have to investigate more.

    Take care .

Hiya Julia, first I am relieved that you won’t be on your meds for a while. second, I was starting to worry that you hadn’t got your dress sorted – you naughty girl, even I was panicking!!!

When I first glimpsed at the photo, a glimpse because Clyde one of my three black cats decided he wanted to sit on my knees! I thought it was you and Chris sort of doing a throwback Thursday thingy ma jiggy, but reading on it is your beautiful daughter Sophie and her man Reese, Julia she is the spitting image of you, Stunning!!!

    Good luck with everything,xxxxx
(don’t do a Tina and break your ankle within 12 hours of your honeymoon – mine was a duty holiday to visit my family in Malta, been in a plaster cast since the first week of March!!!)

    Tina xxxxx
