We can hardly believe we’ve reached a milestone 20 years collaborating with the fabulous Kim Mendelson of Kim & Co. We’ve been bringing her timeless, flattering designs to our lovely customers for two decades and we couldn’t be more pleased to celebrate this anniversary.
To commemorate the occasion, QGossip sat down with the designer herself to find out all the gossip, including her opinion of our fab presenters and the most beautiful places she’s visited in her life.
QGossip: Can you tell us your full name?
Kim Mendelsom: Kim Lauren Mendelson
QG: Do you have a nickname?
QG: What was your first job?
KM: While in the Fashion Design & Merchandising Program at LaSalle College, Montreal, Canada, I sold handbags and luggage from a small booth in a flea market on weekends.
QG: If you weren’t in your current profession, what do you think you would be doing instead?
KM: I’d probably be involved in the world of Artistic Interior Design.
QG:Where have you visited in your life that took your breath away?
KM: The island of Mustique, in the Caribbean and also the many regions of the South of France.
QG: What’s the one achievement you’re most proud of?
KM: The longevity and evolution of Kim & Co (30 years in February 2018) and the relationships I’ve built, in and out of the company, with like-minded people.
QG: Who would you be most star-struck to meet in real life?
KM: I’ve been a long-time admirer of Queen Elizabeth! I would love to dress her!
QG: What are your top tips for realising your goals in business or in life?
KM: Having conviction and staying strong and true. Always follow your instincts backed up by reason/logic! Weigh other people’s points of view. It’s not always just about what only I think.
QG: What’s your top style tip?
KM: Simplicity is complexity resolved. Things that look really simple are not always so simple to create. I also believe that the end result should have an optimistic feel. This is why we try to design with textures and colours that are optimistic.
QG: If you could travel back in time, which era would you visit and what would you do?
KM: I’d love to travel back to the 1920s and live through the era of that time in Coco Chanel’s life, modernising women for comfort in dressing. She was a trailblazer, but the trail was not so easy to travel.
QG: What three things would you bring to a desert island?
KM: Water, sun hat and a maxi dress.
QG: If you were facing a zombie apocalypse, which three QVC presenters would be on your survival team?
KM: I’ve seen strength in all of them individually, which makes them great as a team. So, hopefully we could all be together.
QG: Any other thoughts to share?
KM: What else can I say? I truly love dressing you all and I’m very grateful for every year that I’ve been able to do that! xoxo
