Publication day is getting closer

At the christeningHello,

This week, for the first time in many months, it was still completely dark when I arrived at work for an early shift… a sure sign that summer is on its way out. But how wonderful to have a blast of sunshine (in the south of the UK anyway!) on Sunday.

It couldn’t have worked out better as some close friends were christening their youngest daughter and then throwing a big party in their garden. It was just a glorious afternoon, sipping bubbly, eating delicious food and catching up with pals. Here’s a picture of hubby and I (yes, that is an Onjenu jumpsuit I’m wearing… I’ve got really into jumpsuits recently, that’s the third one I’ve bought!).

It’s now just two months until my debut novel comes out and my publisher’s publicity machine is stepping up a gear. I’ve been doing interviews with book bloggers and others which will be published in October when the book is published, but last week the Gloucestershire Echo newspaper printed this nice piece. I’ll also be putting pieces like this on my Twitter (@jackiekabler) and Facebook page if you’d like to follow me there.

News clipping

Wildlife World Swing Seat Small Bird Feeder - 505949I’m getting more and more nervous about publication day. I feel like I’m sending a baby out into the world on its own… eeeeek! I’ve been trying to find ways to relax as I’m quite a stressy person (I don’t think stressy is a word but you know what I mean!) and I’m not very good at just chilling out. I’m always on the go and rushing around and doing six things at once, and I’m sure it’s not good for me. But I have found one thing that makes me stop for whole minutes at a time, quite unexpectedly – it’s watching the birds on my bird feeder in the garden!

I got this one from work and I’ve had an amazing variety of birds pop along for a snack. I took these pictures the other day in the space of ten minutes. I love watching them. If you have any other tips though about how to relax for a few minutes during a busy day, I’d love to hear them! I think we all need a little time out now and again and underestimate the damage stress can do to our health, so it’s something I really want to address.

Birds on bird feeder

Finally, a few of us presenters have been wearing Anne Klein watches recently and I know lots of people have been asking about them. The range (watches and jewellery) launches on QVC on 1st September as part of Jewellery Month, and it’s gorgeous, based on the stunning designs of the late American fashion designer. Look out for it.

See you soon

    Hi Jackie,
Yes you are right Summer will soon be coming to an end. Nights are drawing in, mornings will be darker, what a horrible thought.

It is lovely to see the birds in the garden, we had a Woodpecker, the Red and Black one on the feeder the other day with a baby WoodPecker, who was on the fence tapping away, I love watching them, they love Richard Jacksons feed.

Now I am like you always on the go, can never sit still for long, and we have a business and it gets quite stressful at times. I find that going out with my dogs is great for relaxing or even just sitting and stroking them. I had to have my Border Collie who was with me all day put to sleep a couple of weeks ago, he suddenly became ill, he had Cancer, that is my third dog in six months I have lost with Cancer, heart breaking.

Yes the watches look stylish, will have to watch the show. Simon Wilsons shows were great as usual, beautiful things on there, he has such a passion for all he does.

Anyway good luck with your novel.

    Take Care.
    Love Jean xx

      Hi Jean,
I am so very sorry to hear the sad news about your dogs, that is just dreadful news. I’m so glad you have your other dogs to keep you going. Thanks for your kind thoughts, take care.

    Hi Jackie,
I have just pre ordered the kindle version of your book sounds rather good, I’m afraid I stock up just like I used to with the “books to be read” pile on the coffee table so when I see one it’s queued ready and waiting good luck with the launch.
How is your wrist doing, I broke mine six wks ago, still in cast, so I shall be taking your tips and another viewers on board about the rice tub, and the warm water excercises, it may well help, are you able to drive yet, or is that still a problem?

Thanks for the informative blogs I really enjoy reading them and the backstage vids
    Take care Maria x

      Hi Maria,
Thanks so much for ordering my book, I really hope people like it! So sorry to hear about your wrist. It’s really about being patient and doing all your exercises and having physiotherapy as needed once you are out of plaster. I started driving again the day after my cast came off, and it was fine for that (I used a wrist support for the first week or so). But eight months on I am still having issues and physio, it’s a slow process….however mine was a bad break requiring surgery and then had complications, so hopefully yours will not take so long to heal! Warm water is definitely helpful when you start doing exercises, also a squeezy ball as your fingers will be very stiff. Good luck and keep me posted!

Hi Jackie lovely reading your blog, your one of my favourite presenters, just down to earth well you just have to be coming from the midlands, Warwick for me. What’s your secret in getting the birds to eat from your bird bench? I bought one but haven’t seen a bird using it yet, perhaps its just a matter of time. Good luck with your book, look forward to reading it love crime novels. Best wishes Carole x

      Hi Carole,
I tried garden centre bird food first and they weren’t that interested, then I switched to Richard Jackson’s bird food from QVC and they started flocking in, so give it a go! Thanks for the kind comments…I love Warwick, have been to the proms at the castle a few times too, fabulous!
