Pick me up buttercup!

Pick me up buttercup!

Let’s have some fun!

We shouldn’t take life too seriously, if you find yourself in a little rut and you want to immediately give yourself a lift then carry on reading.

Have an open mind and hopefully you’ll start to elevate your mood by following some simple steps.

1) First thing is to pull a silly face.

Look in a mirror right now and pull a stupid face, why not? Life doesn’t have to be serious all the time. Let’s be silly and have a giggle. Look how silly you look, does it matter?

2) Do your happy walk.

Have a wiggle across the lounge, bedroom or office. Dance or bounce across the room, make a silly noise to go with it if you need to. Do whatever comes to you spontaneously, just let go and don’t care.

3) Thank somebody for something no matter how small or big.

Send a text or make a quick phone call, thank somebody for something they did for you no matter how small. I’ve just texted my friend Emma to thank her for popping over when I didn’t feel well. Friends and family will love the fact you thought of them because being grateful matters.

4) Be grateful for something out loud.

It’s good to be happy about the small things or the things we take for granted. Be thankful for loved ones, your breakfast, your health, your arms, your friends, clean running water and just the day itself. Say it out loud, shout it if you want. Find the positives and have a little think about them.

5) Change your screen saver on your phones/tablet/laptop to a picture that makes you smile.

Mine is Teddy, he makes me smile. I could watch him all day. What image puts a smile or your face? It may be a saying or a phrase…I love ‘Carpe Diem’ as it means seize the day, because I believe every day counts so enjoy it, life is too short (and all the other meaningful similar clichés).

6) Think about what you are doing this second.

This is Mindfulness – breathe in the moment. Admire and embrace that split second of peace. What can you smell, hear, feel, and see at this exact moment. Take a few deep breaths and bring a big smile to your face, you’ll feel this in your whole body, even if it’s just for a moment.

7) Replay the time that you laughed so hard your belly hurt.

We’ve all had it, where we could roll on the floor laughing because we have totally lost it. I actually experienced it on air recently with The Camouflage Sisters, I’m not even sure what set us off. Sometimes when you know you shouldn’t be laughing you just laugh more! Have a watch and see if you can work out what set us all off!

8) Put your favourite upbeat song on and have a little jiggle.

My Mum is a big advocate of this. Over the last few years she’s had three operations that have rendered her slightly immobile, because of this she values the movement she has and has a jiggle on her walking stick. Here’s a few songs you may like to try to boost your mood and get you going – some are cheesy, some are classics:

Jump – Van Halen

Wake Me Up – Wham

Happy – Pharrell Williams

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper

Walking on Sunshine – Katrina and the Waves

Lovely Day – Bill Withers

Walking on a Dream – Empire of the Sun

You Can’t Hurry Love – The Supremes

Sometimes we just have to care less about what ‘others’ think, so be yourself, unapologetically and enjoy life. Smiling is contagious so let’s all do it more and make the most of what we have.

So so true Chloe. I live my life exactly like that. One song you missed out though is Footloose. Try standing still when that is on! Xx

Do you know Chloe, I didn’t like you when you first started but I just love you even more since I’ve just read your blog, (old head on young shoulder syndrome). That is a complement because I didn’t have your reasoning when I was your age. Well done you! It’s taken me to get to 65 to feel the same way as you, to accept the things we cannot change. You are so pretty, inside & out. Caz. Xx

What a great clip! I love times like those, when it’s completely the wrong time to go into an uncontrollable fit of giggles. I laughed along with you all and felt better for it too!!
