Phew! That was close

If you’ve been reading my blog over the past few months, you will know that we have been hard at work trying to get our house (almost) finished in time for Christmas. I say ‘almost’ because the small extension to give a kitchen/ dining/ family room will have to wait until the spring when the weather warms up, as will the downstairs shower room.

The race was most definitely on to get the painting finished last weekend before the carpet arrived on Monday and, as fate would have it, Chris had not one, but two gigs on the Saturday which meant the majority of the painting was down to me! I posted this picture on Facebook and lots of people told me off for climbing up and down a step ladder while holding a paint-loaded roller, in my flip-flops! You’re probably thinking the same thing, not the smartest choice of footwear, but I survived.

While I was painting, I had one eye on the television watching my team, Crystal Palace, take on Leicester City in the early kick-off. It certainly lifted my spirits when we won 3-0, pushing us up to 14th in the table. It’s an amazing feat, as we have languished at the foot for most of the season so far.

The good news is that we finished all of the painting and I arrived home from my shift at QVC on Monday to a beautiful new carpet and a bottle of champagne, and some gorgeous flowers to celebrate publication day for Christmas at Carol’s.

Speaking of which, I will be doing a little give-away of a gorgeous star necklace on my Twitter over the Christmas week so check @JuliaRobertsTV for details.

Finally, on Tuesday morning, we went out to buy our Christmas tree. I think it’s one of the nicest we’ve ever had – are you a star or fairy on the top person?

We also put up a small tree in our newly finished lounge and the Bethlehem Lights wreath on our new front door. Apologies for forgetting to post a picture of it on last week’s blog, but here is a photo of it from the inside. I was still in my dressing gown when I took it, so the exterior shot will have to wait for another time… don’t want to upset the neighbours!

I’m really looking forward to showing all the changes to Chris’s and my mum when they arrive to spend Christmas with us on Saturday.

Yesterday was the second presenter Christmas lunch and, to tie in with the current ‘beard trend’ , Catherine, Kathy and myself sported the moustaches from our crackers for the group photo.

It was a lovely lunch and I really like my ‘secret santa’ gift of thick socks, which will keep my feet nice and warm when I sit writing for hours.

When I got back to QVC, I snapped these cards on my dressing room’s wardrobe – apologies if yours is not there, I added some more between my shows last night.

Thanks to everyone who has sent cards in, it really does brighten the dressing room particularly as I will be in on Boxing Day and several other days next week.

Speaking of Boxing Day, if you love our fashion and are looking for a bargain, do join us for the Boxing Day fashion sale. I’ve pre-recorded the launch of the Skechers Today’s Special Value (very comfy and smart looking too) and will be with you for a couple of hours from 7pm until 9pm.

I’ll see you tonight for my last shift before the big day with Fashion on Friday at 5pm, and I have Antthony Designs at 6pm – I wonder if he will be dressed as a Christmas elf?

Wishing you a lovely Christmas with family and/or friends, and, if you are spending it alone, flick on QVC for some friendly, familiar faces and no pressure to buy.

Much love to you all,
Julia xxxx

      Hi Linda
Thanks for the Christmas wishes – it was a little different from usual and I was back at work on Boxing Day but it was enjoyable nonetheless with both Chris’s mum and my mum staying.
I’m delighted with the way the house is looking – I can’t believe we got it done.
Happy & Healthy 2018 to you too

Your home looks wonderful. Well worth all the planning, and the upheaval I’m sure . I must agree that your choice of footwear was foolish , safety first Julia please. Happy Christmas and a happy healthy New Year.

You room looks lovely Julia as does your Christmas tree. I used to be an Angel person – I think because as a child I was an Angel in our school nativity. However in recent years I’ve become a star so to speak!
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas.
    Best wishes Denise x

      Hi Denise,
We were so late putting the tree up that it still looks fab when normally it is dropping like mad by twelfth night. We’ve always had a star I think.
Hope you had a good Christmas and wishing you a happy & healthy 2018

Dearest Julia, congrats on your house which looks so lovely – you certainly cut it fine. Do you write in your sleep? Where do you find the time? Looking great by the way. Thanks for your help with my hair query earlier in the year – its so much better now with a combination of kingsley treatment and leaving it to dry naturally. Have a great Xmas and good health in 2018. Now I need to get your Christmas book as I loved your last one on my holiday. Take care Tanya x

      Hi Tanya,
I’m often bemoaning the fact that there aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do. I am quite disciplined when it comes to writing though – if I feel like writing, all else has to wait! Did you read Christmas at Carol’s? I’m very relieved that it has been so well received as it is a bit different from my other books. Let me know what you think/thought of it.
My sister is also a big fan of Philip Kingsley Elasticizer and she has very different hair from mine – in fact, I’ve just sent her some for her birthday which is tomorrow.
      Happy and healthy 2018

      Hi Linda
It was a little different from plan but turned out well in the end! So happy with our lounge, in fact the whole house so far – just the kitchen/family room to attack now!
I love baby animals of any description – I think it is the size of their feet compared to the rest of them that makes them so cute and lollopy (I think I just made that word up!)
I hope you managed to get to the coast to walk off the calories.
Wishing you a happy and healthy 2018
