Just thought I'd share with you a few photos from the 10-mile Pink Ribbon Walk I did with a fabulous team from QVC on Saturday. It's the 10th anniversary year of the walks, which raise money for Breast Cancer Care, and over the years more than 22,000 walkers have raised more than £8.2 million, walking a total of 341,046 miles – that's 13.69 times around the earth!
It was an absolute privilege to take part and help to raise even more money for this fantastic charity which makes such a difference to so many women (and men). Our walk started in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace and followed a stunning route along the river, through pretty streets and parks – we even saw some deer!
The team included people from across the departments at QVC, from buyers and web staff to producers and guest presenters. The picture (click to enlarge) above is of me before the start of the walk with Nat, QVC's promotions scheduler, plus Bev Cressman who you'll recognise from all sorts of home and garden shows, and Abi from Ultrasun (and yes, she came supplied, and yes, we were very grateful as it was very very HOT!).
We all had our own reasons for doing the walk. I lost a friend to breast cancer not so long ago as well as having several friends and colleagues affected by the disease; Susie Adams, our Northern Nights guest, lost her mum; Alison O'Reilly (our Skagen and Diamonique expert) tragically lost both her mum and her sister. And of course virtually every single person there knew somebody who had been touched by breast cancer in some way or another.
There was a lot of talking as we went along, both within our group and with strangers walking alongside us, and everyone had their own stories. It truly was a bonding experience, and made those long, hot miles seem so much shorter.
The picture above left was at 8 miles, when we stopped briefly for some water and fruit to help rehydrate us! From left to right that's Tracey Krieger who has had breast cancer herself and also lost her mum, along with Alison, me and our Yong Kim guest Ingrid Tarrant.
Ingrid kept us all topped up with bright pink lipstick… obviously a crucial companion on a 10-mile walk! And here (above left) are just some members of Team QVC after we crossed the finish line. Despite aching hips/knees/feet we loved every minute. I'm not sure yet how much we raised as donations are still coming in but we certainly smashed our £1500 target so we were thrilled – thanks so much to all who donated!
And finally, I couldn't finish this blog without including a picture of Monty, our Co-ordinating Producer Emma's dog who didn't just walk but ran, skipped and rolled all the way with us and was still a little bundle of energy at the end when we were all collapsed, gasping, on the grass. What a little cutie!
Now I want to do it all again next year. Do it with us, it'll be fun! Have a wonderful week.
Love Jackie xx
