Outside of QVC
Last week I found myself with a clear afternoon in London. I didn’t have to rush back to the coast as I was staying up for another work day and so I couldn’t believe it when I realised I had a chance to go to the London Fashion Week Festival on The Strand. A whole afternoon to see fashion shows, talks and lots and lots of amazing clothes, jewellery and accessories to swoon over, brilliant. It was a jam-packed event and the people-watching was as good as the event itself as everyone there obviously had a keen interest in fashion so they were dressed to impress.
I watched one of the catwalk shows which was all about the upcoming trends. It was fantastic, if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen all the clips on my Instastories. The main points to take away were that wild, bright and mixed prints is still a key look. It’s not for everyone but think tartans with florals in bright colours.
At QVC, I would suggest this fabulous red and black checked coat from Centigrade and also the floral printed dress from Ghost. Pretty frills are also big news, this can vibe as over the top or as soft as you like. Many pieces we have at QVC take it down a notch to make it more wearable, like this Asymmetric Frill detail blouse from Damsel In a Dress.
I went to a great talk about diversity within the fashion industry too which was really interesting. It’s definitely moving in the right direction but unfortunately it still has a long way to go before everyone feels represented when it comes to advertising and the way we consume fashion and beauty.
I had a fantastic afternoon and on the way back to the tube even got stopped to have my photo taken. I had gone for a very current look which is of course leopard print, if you fancy a coat similar to mine you could try this one from Helene Berman. Or for a really furry version this one from Rino & Pelle. As it was a fashion event I made sure to take along my Lulu Guinness Francis handbag. I also wore my Clarks Dinah ankle boot in Dark Tan Suede.
As you may know it was the final show of The Weekend Kitchen last Saturday. It was so much fun. Our guests Brett, Kate and Gail were fantastic, the food was incredible and it was a really busy show. I want to say a massive thank you to Dean and Marcus for being such brilliant chefs and teaching us so much. It really does take a lot of work to bring a show like this together even though it may not seem so on air.
Behind the scenes Tracy, Jo, Mandy and Phil were working their bottoms off to bring us this show so huge thanks goes to them! Will was also working so hard on the social media side of things to make sure you all got brilliant competitions and lots of on air interaction. What a team effort!
Some recipe highlights for you from last week would be the Damson Gin and Tonic Granita, using the Six O’Clock Gin Great Taste Award Winner 3-Piece Selection. The Caramelised Pecans and Butterscotch Delight that accompanied the Boozy Mince Pies and also the Red Wine Sauce and Celeriac Puree. So here they are for you to be able to try at home. You can also see the full range that we used last week on The Weekend Kitchen Page.
What I’m using – Eco Week!
We are constantly being told how much we need to cut back on using single use plastic and start being more aware of what we put into our environment. We certainly do our bit in our household, we make sure to wash our plastics before we recycle and use our own bags at the supermarket and also try to cut back on the number of hot drinks we buy in take away cups. I’m also aware of how many chemicals go down our drains but had been yet to find something less toxic that actually works. So here are a few things I now have and have been trying out to help keep us being part of this positive movement.
Bag for Life – firstly a really nice shopping bag to use for life. I have this fun sequinned cactus bag from One Button. It’s canvas and really strong. It also, unlike so many similar bags, has a zip closure to keep things safe if you are putting your purse or phone etc in there too when you’re out and about. You can also get a French Bulldog, Daisy or Beagle design.
Stainless Steel Water Bottle – we know we need to drink more water but it’s easy to forget. However, when you have this on your desk or with you on the go you will no doubt remember to use it! You can put hot or cold drinks inside and it keeps it cold or hot for up to 24 hours.
I have been making sure to take my hot water and lemon or herbal teas with me when I am out and about or just fresh cold tap water, sometimes with a slice of cucumber in it. I have the Flamingo and Solid Blue Option, you get two for your money which is incredible value! Fred is using the blue one. I would like to say though if you want something for your milk-based drinks this is not designed for it. These really are about staying hydrated with water.
Ecozone – one thing I hate about descaling and working against limescale in the bathroom is the strong toxic fumes that can really catch at the back of your throat. I am also concerned about the chemicals going down the drain. So I have been trying out Ecozone and I am really impressed. I tried both the Washing Machine & Dishwasher Cleaner and also the Appliance descsaler.
It’s hard for me to be able to gauge how the washing machine is after using it without taking the whole thing apart but if it’s as good as the result I had with my kettle then it’s looking great. Here are some before and after using it on my kettle and also my shower door. Down here on the south coast we have very hard water so limescale builds quickly.
My kettle was in a right old state, I also hadn’t descaled it for ages! So I boiled up 400ml of water and poured in 100ml of Ecozone. It fizzed like others but didn’t smell nearly as strong as some I’ve used. I also wiped some around the top of my kettle and down the spout. The result is fantastic. Again, like with other brands I had to brush down the sides a little to get some of the last chunks of limescale but they came away so easily. I also gave a little extra scrub around the top of the kettle. It looks good as new. What’s great about this product is that is way less toxic than others and also is cruelty-free and also vegan-friendly.
I know I’ve already mentioned quite a bit in fashion but I have two more things to tell you about! One look that I really love on my down-time is relaxed jeans and a T-shirt but it can be very dull so it’s nice to smarten it up a little. So I paired my ripped boyfriend jeans with a slogan T-shirt and then added the rather fabulous Ruth Langsford Faux Leather Trim Blazer and Clarks Sharon Noel Lace Up Flatform shoe. I really like this look, it’s got that laidback style but still a fashionable edge. What do you think? Are you a ripped jeans woman or do you like your jeans all in one piece haha?!!
Oh my goodness, SQUEAL! It’s a Benefit Today’s Special Value offer that’s coming your way next week on Monday 1st October!! It’s also the same day as our 25th Anniversary at QVC so a really exciting day all round. So what’s in this fabulous offer? Well to start it off it’s the most wonderful pink, glittering make-up bag so I’m already loving it! Inside though you will be getting my personal favourite mascara from Benefit, Roller Lash. For the brows you have the iconic Gimme Brow Plus which is giving people their best possible brows the world over.
You then get most beautiful, warm golden nectar glow of Gold Rush to sweep across your skin. If that wasn’t enough you have a fabulous lip colour which is the They’re Real ‘ Beyond Sexy’ lipstick and liner in one designed to make lips look fuller and then finally you have a gorgeous sparkling heart-shaped compact mirror to use on the go. Nice eh? I can’t wait to see what price you will get this at. I would be doubling-up and treating friends and family to this for Christmas. Here’s my before and after in the look. Lots of Love Katy
