Our 40th year!

Yesterday, Chris and I celebrated our 39th anniversary of living together – so we have now entered our 40th year. I’m looking forward to some rubies next January… maybe mixed with a few diamonds. Only joking. I actually already have a ruby and diamond ring that Chris bought me for Valentine’s Day nearly thirty years ago, which I wear every day so I don’t really need another one.

I had been very busy writing most of the week (more about that later) so had to dash out at around 5pm on Wednesday to get a card and a few treats for ‘him indoors’. I’ve mentioned before that Chris is very fond of cheese, red wine and coffee so the local supermarket was where I headed for vintage cheddar and some crackers, a bottle of malbec (aptly named Santa Julia) and (instead of coffee pods, which we were okay for) some soap.

Don’t laugh. I don’t use bars of soap so there is rarely any in the house, but Chris loves it. I treated him to a multi pack of Imperial Leather – you should have seen his face!

My anniversary gifts

He bought me these beautiful flowers and an illuminated star ornament, pictured above, to match with the chair in my new writing room in the attic.

It’s just as well it is such a lovely room to be in, as I have spent in excess of 24 hours in there since last Saturday. This was the view from my skylight window on Tuesday – stunning blue skies, but oh so cold!

Blue skies

My aim was to write 10,000 words of my next novel, but I fell slightly short at 8,500 words. I’m pretty pleased with that though, as I spent most of Monday travelling up to London for blood tests prior to one of my three monthly CML check-ups next week.

My poorly armAs an aside – my normal blood nurse was on holiday, and I wasn’t very impressed with his replacement. This was my arm three days (and several applications of arnica gel) later. Alex barely leaves a scratch.

Now I understand why people freak out about blood tests, they don’t have Alex!

What’s the saying? ‘You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone’ – thank goodness he is coming back.

As always, for more book news, do sign up to the newsletter on my website www.juliarobertsauthor.com.

I wonder if any of you bought yesterday’s Nutri Ninja Today’s Special Value? I had been loaned a sample to practice with, as Debs Flint and I were supposed to be doing a Facebook smoothie challenge yesterday, and I had never used one before.

The challenge was cancelled at the last minute but, as a result of my practice run, which Chris filmed, I ended up buying myself one.

No prizes for guessing the colour I went for. If you did buy it, try my smoothie recipe from the video (change quantities to suit your personal taste), and let me know what you think.

This coming weekend it’s Beauty Day x 2.

Saturday we have a Perricone Today’s Special Value – I’m not actually on air, but instead will be recording some pieces for The Beauty Channel with Leigh from Tarte. Then on Sunday it is the first IT cosmetics Today’s Special Value (aka the brand that launched with sell-out shows).

Beauty Weekend Today's Special Value offers

I’m presenting the 11am show and I’m also on at 2pm with Molton Brown. Watch out for five premiere shows over the weekend too:

1pm – Pure Potions with Pipa
4pm – Living Proof haircare with Dale
6pm – Cailyn cosmetics with Debs

12pm – Transformulas skincare with Chloe
5pm – Orly nails with Pipa

Michelle Mone for Diamonique Today's Special ValueMonday is the start of Diamonique Week. It kicks off with a Michelle Mone Today’s Special Value (pictured left) at midnight Sunday into Monday, but technically the grand opening is a two hour show at 5pm with myself and Anne Dawson. Knowing the popularity of Michell Mone jewellery, we may well be on to One Time Only’s by then so I hope you will join us.

Incidentally, the Grand Finale is also at 5pm which means there will be no Fashion on Friday next week. Instead, I will be presenting The Morning Show with Craig Rowe – a bit of a rarity for me.
There are also two fashion Today’s Special Values this coming week – Antthony Designs on Wednesday, my show with him is at 3pm, and Anybody loungewear on Friday.

Check our website for details nearer the time if you like to order early.

Speaking of early, I’m doing the Lunchtime Show today so must dash.
Have a great weekend,
Julia xx

Hi Julia ,congratulations on your 39 years together, me and him in doors had our ruby anniversary at the beginning of December, and I never new that in between the 40th and 50th you can celebrate 45 years which is sapphire, I must have had a premanisian all those year’s ago because my engagement ring is 3 sapphires and 4 diamond’s, so don’t think I will be getting any more (don’t really need anymore ) fingers crossed for you that all goes well with your check up .looking forward to your diamoneque show .must go for now lots of love Linda xx

      Hi Linda
Congratulations on your Ruby Wedding Anniversary…. somewhat belatedly! I did know about sapphire being the 45th anniversary but then I do sell a lot of jewellery so have had to research such things over the years!
Just on my way to the hospital now but not sure if they’ve had my results back yet – I hope so, I hate the anxiety of waiting.

      Hi Christine
Hope you have a lovely celebration in March when your anniversary comes round.
The funny thing about my blood tests is that I have no visible veins in my left arm so, despite being right-handed, I always have the blood taken from the right where the veins are ‘juicy’ which is why there is usually barely a scratch. Oh well, you can’t win them all!

congratulations to you both. Not being married seems to suit but I have one little niggle. If you don’t need to be married why do you sometimes wear a wedding ring-engagement ring combination.I am not criticizing just interested as I believe anyone can wear whatever makes them happy. Congrats again.love S

      Hi Strefanie
I think you answered your own question – anybody can wear anything. The ring finger is the most comfortable finger for me to wear rings and as I am right-handed the rings take less punishment. That said, I now usually wear my diamond eternity band on my right ring finger.
I’m not against marriage, we may eventually do it, but our relationship doesn’t seem to need the piece of paper for it to last.

Congratulations on 39 unmarried years together, Phil & I have been unmarried for 44 years this February! !!
Your picture of your blood letting arm made me grimace with empathy as I had 2 exactly the same experiences recently!!! I suppose even phlebotomists have bad vein days!!!
I have sent for the bird feeder sculpture after seeing it in your garden in a photo you posted in your blog. I have a feeling that the squirrels are going to love it!
Am looking forward to reading your next book, so happy typing.

      Hi Sue
Phlebotomist egh? Posh word for blood nurse – maybe I’ll use it in a book! So hoping I can have the next one ready for release in April. I managed another 2500 words on Tuesday (my day off this week) and am hoping for 10,000 in my five day break. I can’t believe we are almost in February! I hope you are signed up to the newsletter on my website for updates.
Congratulations to you and Phil on your 44 years unmarried – brilliant!
Have you received your bird feeder yet? I only got the bird food yesterday so hope to post some pictures on this or next week’s blog.

A couple of weeks ago i bought the essie cuticle remover for the cuticle remover. It came with hand cream and oil. Im still out on the hand cream bot the oil is making a big difference. Never thought id find anything. Just thought id share. Maybe you have tried already.
Good.luck with your cml check up i hope you are ok.

      Hi Beverley
Thanks for the tip re Essie – no, I haven’t tried it yet so will order some! My nails are also misbehaving at the moment so maybe a change of oil would suit them too.
On the train on the way to the hospital now but to sure if they’ve had my blood results yet – should be fine, and it’s good that they keep such a close eye on me.
      Thanks again for the tip

      Hi Linda
To be honest we didn’t see that much of each over on our anniversary as I was working but we did go to our favourite restaurant, The Tablespoon in Sunningdale, for dinner on Saturday so that kind of made up for it.
I hope you will like the Antthony tops – I managed to get the shirt style one when I got off air but unfortunately not in the green- it had sold out.
      Have a lovely holiday
