We all get them, don’t we? A day where nothing seems to go right!
Wednesday was like that for me – a day filled with minor irritations, mostly to do with late deliveries; none of them from QVC, I might add. Actually, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but QVC has just been voted number one for customer service by beating many household names in to the top spot – quite an accolade.
The first cancelled delivery was for the dishwasher I’d ordered to replace the one that broke down last week. I wouldn’t have bothered, as we are going to be fitting a new kitchen in the spring, but I had promised our old one to Sophie – that, and I hate washing up!
Two hours after that, I had an email about the wood stain I had ordered for the new internal doors – delayed until the following day for no apparent reason.
Actually, on the subject of doors, our new front door is being fitted as I write. It’s not exactly the perfect day to not have a front door as it just snowed… brrrr! I’ll put a picture of it on here next week.
To make things worse, my elderly cat Poppy was refusing to eat and I still wasn’t quite right after my bout of gastroenteritis (that’s what my ‘dodgy’ tummy turned out to be, but thankfully I am feeling a lot better now).
Talking of fictional characters, I can now finally reveal the cover of my 20,000 word novella, Christmas at Carol’s, which is out next week.
It’s been quite fun to write as it is more lighthearted, and I’ve written it in the first person so I had to become Carol every time I sat down at the computer – a bit of escapism never hurt anyone. It will only be an eBook, but I’m already planning a sequel for next Christmas and maybe then I’ll bring it out with both stories as a paperback.
I haven’t got any decorations up yet because of the ongoing building work (thankfully the blue wall has now been plastered over), but I did make the Christmas cake on Sunday. Funnily enough, that was almost a disaster too – maybe Mercury is retrograde or something!
I mixed the cake and the family all had their good luck stir, then I popped it in the oven. I noticed there wasn’t the usual spicy baking aroma but I didn’t think too much of it however, when I checked after two hours it was virtually raw. I mentioned the thermostat knob falling off above so perhaps it was just loose on Sunday and didn’t set the oven to the right temperature. I think I’ve rescued it, but it is the least confident I’ve felt about my Christmas cake for thirty years!
On the subject of spicy aromas, one of the options in Monday’s Yankee Candle Today’s Special Value is Cinnamon Stick, and available online now. There are nine fragrances to choose from in total, the others being: Midnight Jasmine, Clean Cotton, Black Cherry (definitely not for me), Peony, Lemon Lavender, Red Apple Wreath, Vanilla Lime and Vanilla Cupcake.
I can’t make my mind up, as there are three of my favourites in there; Midnight Jasmine, Vanilla Lime and Lemon Lavender… decisions, decisions. You may want to order on our website early, as their last single fragrance Today’s Special Value sold out fast.
Before that, we have a fabulous Christmas shopping weekend on QVC. I’m looking forward to the final Butler & Wilson show of 2017 with Simon from 3pm – 5pm tomorrow, and also catching up with Lulu as it’s her Timebomb Today’s Special Value – sadly I’m not on with her though. Then on Sunday, watch out for the launch of Ophia watches, a brand only available at QVC. There’s a really eclectic mix of styles which you can check out in advance on our website.
If you’ve been following my blog over the past few months, you’ll know that we’ve been doing a huge amount of work on our house, which means a lot of dust and mess.
A couple of months ago I was presented with a sample of the forthcoming Dyson V8 Today’s Special Value to try out and have I been putting it through its paces!
As you can see from the pictures, it’s been used on tile floors, carpets, awkward-to-clean stairs, and even to dust the walls before painting. I have thoroughly road-tested it and, if you are looking to replace your heavy old upright with a cordless that packs a punch, I can highly recommend it. It is so easy to store too and we’ve built a shelf in the cupboard for all the extra tools the QVC offer comes with. As well as the pictures, I’ve done a couple of little videos which I will try and put on here next week.
Right, I must dash – have a great (if cold) weekend,
