On the move again

As I mentioned in last week's blog, I have found somewhere to move to, but thanks for all your kind offers of spare rooms.

I keep trying to move further west to be a little closer to QVC's new premises at Chiswick Park, but while we still have Daniel, our son, living with us we also have to take his work into consideration. He is coaching at the Crystal Palace Academy, which is located in Beckenham, so the further west we go, the longer his drive to training will be!

So it had to be another compromise in terms of location, as we will just be inching about ten minutes drive in the general direction of Chiswick Park. We will also be even closer to Sophie so I am sure she will be making good use of our back garden at the weekends as her little flat doesn't have any outside space.

I am looking forward to moving and the packing hasn't seemed half so bad this time… I wonder if I will still be saying that next Wednesday??? My only slight concern is that the new house doesn't have a separate utility room which is where Poppy had her food, litter tray and bed in both the current house and our old house, so she may feel a little unsettled to start with. Maybe she will enjoy having more of a free rein at night time?

She knows something is going on as there are boxes starting to accumulate everywhere. She scared herself this morning by brushing against and subsequently knocking over some unmade boxes that were leaning against the book case! Result? She wouldn't eat her breakfast, and she has been hiding under Daniel's bed ever since – she really is the scarediest cat you have ever met!

Busy weekend ahead with the Decleor TSV tomorrow which I think you will love. Enjoy the sunshine (if you have it in your part of the British Isles),

Love Julia x

Good luck with the move Julia. Poor Poppy hope she is OK now!
Have a great weekend. It has been scorching the last few days up here so no doubt it’ll be even warmer south of the border. Maybe not what you want when you are packing right enough.
Right I’m off for a beer
Good luck and take care xx

    Dear Julia,
I don’t envy you at all, having to move. The last time we moved was a total nightmare!
We had packed all our belongings in readiness for the big day. After the usual holdups as to when we would be signing contracts etc. we arranged the removal van.Anyway, to cut a long story short, we arrived at our new house to find the previous owners still packing their belongings and loading up various friends cars!! Our removals van was parked up at the end of the street. We had to wait hours while they cleared out their belongings. I even had to go up to our solicitors office because the people we were buying the house from said they did not even know if the money from the sale had been received.
Finally when they had cleared the house they were about to drive off when they realised they had forgotten their cat. They stopped the car and just grabbed the cat and drove off!!!
When we have moved in the past I always put our cat in the cattery for a few days to ensure she did not go astay.
To top it all, they had to come back the next day to empty the garage.
I said after all that that we would never move again!!! But guess what….
I’ve been nagging my husband about moving as I want to “down-size” to a bungalow or an apartment.
I only hope it will be more plain sailing this time around.
    Good luck in your move.
    Regards, Tina( South Wales)

    Hi Julia
Isn’t the sunny weather fabulous, its amazing how it seems to change peoples mood as everyone seems much happier – long may it last. I woke up this morning and was shocked that the central heating thermostate(sp) was showing 24 degrees and of course it wasn’t on so you get the idea how Glasgow is enjoying the sun – 24 degrees at 7pm in the morning!! Incase Ali Y is reading this i’ve got Elemis liquid layer/Ultrasun 50 face on my face and my Decleor sun protection on my body – at least the “bits” the sun will see. I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy some sun as i realise your up to your eyes what with your house move and studio move,i hope it all goes smoothlyxx Its fantastic news you and the family have got somewhere to stay nearer Chiswick Park – i totally understand how Poppy is feeling, my cat,Chloe rules the roost, she even bosses the dogs,Mac and Mabel about, they are only puppies so i keep a watch just incase Chloe bosses them too much – i think she thinks they are her babies because the other day i found her licking them – preciousxx I hope Poppy gets settled soon. Well Julia, the Decleor tsv, all i can say is whoooooo,Fiona and QVC have done us proud and on four easi-pays too – i went for three, one as a gift and two for me. As you know i have favourites in Elemis,Decleor,Liz Earle and Emma Hardie but i love the Decleor Aromaesscences so getting the Iris in this tsv is great – i’ve still got an unopened Hydra Floral and neroli oil from the last tsv,but i know there use by dates and use time after opening so i’ll be able to get the benefit of this wonderful skincare.I’m also a nailcare/polish gal so i’m looking forward to the Nails inc anniversary shows tomorrow and Monday – my other favourite is the Nail Envy and Avoplex oil from OPI,i didnt go for the tsv the other day but stocked up on a great valued set – Nail Envy clear and pink and Avoplex oil,all full sized(15ml) and a great price – £23.96 plus £3.95 – i bought four sets so saved on the half priced p&p – i’m a happy camperxx Look after yourself Juliax Love Linda,Glasgowxx

    Hi Julia,
Glad you have somewhere to live, it must have been difficult knowing YOU had sold your previous house, did you get commission on that. Hope the move is not too stressful as you have the move for QVC as well. It will be nice for you to be nearer Sophie. Yes cats are funny things arent they, one of our cats Guinness does not like some strangers, and he will take off and hide until he is assured they have gone. Make sure Poppy is not in one of the boxes as I know they love them dont they, I brought a nice bed for Guinness, not sleeping in that, I prefer a cardboard box, nice to be choosey isnt it. The weather is lovely isnt it, hopefully it will last until the weekend. Hope you have a good weekend.
    Love Jean X

    Hi Julia
Sorry I did not write for a while, I have not been very well, but thank God Iam much better now. I used to live just off Chiswick high road, how far is QVC new place from there?
I do love Chiswick, so when Iam in London next I will come to visit, it will be great to see you again.
Good luck with the house move and the QVC move. Enjoy the great weather, here in Mallorca is so hot, it looks like the summer heat started too early.
    Much love.

Glad you have managed to find a new house and even ten minutes closer to QVC is progress, lol! Goog luck with the QVC move too, bet it will be a little sad to leave but also exciting. In reply to your comment on my last post, I did like the Tiana B maxi but didn’t go for it in the end as it wasn’t quite my taste. The black maxi did suit you, hope you got to get one.
Hope you are enjoying the sunshine in between moving, hope it lasts and isn’t the only sun we get this year!lol!
Enjoy the rest of the week, can’t wait for Sat TSV!!

    Hi Julia
Sorry not been on earlier, but we had problems with the internet connection the last couple of days…didn’t have any! Sooo didn’t want you to think I wasn’t going to wish you luck in your move!
Poor Poppy, hope she settles into her new home…pets are funny things, they know when something is going on. Bobby follows you everywhere, he sticks to you like glue when something is happening.
Hope everything goes smoothly for you. I can remember our last move, the new owners turned up and Chris had forgotten to disconnect the washing machine…mad panic or what, water everywhere. Luckily they had friends on the same street and went for a coffee whilst we finished running round like headless chickens mopping up all the water lol!
    Good Luck!

    Hi Julia
Wasn’t expecting to see you so soon after your move, I bet you’re exhausted! Did you have lots of help, hope so! How is Poppy, not too distressed with her new surroundings and all the packing boxes!
Oh dear, must say, the new look ‘Community’ page shocked me a bit, not sure if I like it.
Hang on a minute, I feel a grumpy head coming on now…afraid, I’m of the old school…if I want to follow on ‘Facebook and Twitter’ I’ll go on their pages. It feels like everywhere you look at the moment it’s being ‘shoved in your face’, so to speak, whether its on the internet or TV, the old ‘Follow us on F and T’ pops up somewhere, things like toothpaste for goodness sake. Where will it all end?
Much prefer the old blog setup, without the distractions down the side, if you know what I mean…if it aint broke, don’t fix it, as the saying goes, but that’s just me talking.
    Happy head back on now!
Heard you talking about your last night at Battersea next week…will be very sad for you after such a long time, but you’re going to be making some new memories to treasure.

Sorry it’s been a while but I’ve had Mum in hospital unexpectedly. She’s home now though but has been diagnosed with a heart condition which is worrying. She’s doing ok though but clearly needs a lot of TLC.
I did laugh at your response to my last comment on your blog. Trust you not to want to be a vampire cos they can’t go out in the sun! You’re not too worried about the blood diet then!! Lol!!! Anyhow, the ‘Twilight’ vampires can go in the sun and, in fact, they look even more beautiful, especially Edward Cullen!!!
I’m also a fan of Bazza, just love Copa Cabana!
Really glad you’ve found a new home. Love to Poppy. x
And love to Dale! Tell him I’ll be in touch soon!

    Hi Julia
its always hard to leave a familiar place of work after so many years – bit like putting on a pair of comfy shoes, and then you have to ‘break in’ a new pair !
I have to be honest, I thought the new sets would be more light, airy and ultra modern. The backdrops are extremely dark and ‘busy’, rather too much so when fashion is being displayed in front of them, and those stairs don’t look at all safe for the models. Still, no doubt we shall all get used to it in time.
    Good luck !

    Hi Tina
What a nightmare for you – moving is stressful at the best of times! Mind you it didn’t seem so bad this time round, I just let it sort of ‘wash’ over me. We are more or less out of the moving boxes and sorted out, apart from the garage …… don’t mention the garage!
Poppy has been brilliant – instead of hiding away in Daniel’s room as she normally does, she has been sleeping on ‘her’ cushion on the sofa and generally being much more sociable. Maybe she is afraid we will forget her next time round, a bit like the folk in your post!
Good luck if you do decide to move again

    Hi Linda
That Decleor TSV seems ages ago and yet it was less than three weeks – time really can play tricks sometimes! All that beautiful sunshine and a week later RUBBISH weather for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations – what a shame. I can’t believe we have to keep putting the heating on, it’s been so cold.
Poppy has settled in really well in the new house although I haven’t let her outside yet – she is more of a house cat really.
Sounds like you have been busy with all your QVC purchases – at least you check the sell by dates so you don’t waste things …. I hate waste, particularly food.
Hopefully we will get a bit more summer before we are condemned to Autumn.

No I didn’t get any commission for selling our last landlord’s house, but I have learned my lesson and won’t do that again!
We are just an 11 minute drive from Sophie without traffic which is lovely although we are not constantly seeing each other, after all she has moved out for some independence.
Poppy has been surprisingly good with the move. She sits on her cushion on the sofa cleaning herself and then comes for a cuddle and a stroke – she’s like a different cat!
Shame the weather didn’t last into the Jubilee weekend but I hear it could be warming up again next week – fingers crossed.

Glad to hear you are back ‘on line’!!
We were surprisingly organised for the house move – the removal people turned up at 8a.m. and the house was empty by 11a.m. By 2.30 our furniture was installed in the new place. Mind you we then spent hours making sure the house we moved out of was spotless and that was a big job!
Poppy has settled in here really well and is being very ‘fussy’, which is unusual for her.

Really good to hear from you – sounds like you are settling back in to life in America. I don’t know Naples, but we did holiday in Captiva, a little further up the Gulf coast, a few years ago and we all loved it.
Glad to hear that all the years of indoctrination by Ali Young have left their mark when it comes to sun protection.
Ali K is off work for another couple of weeks but due back at the beginning of July – it will be good to have her back as part of the QVC family.
Both moves went pretty smoothly, although I must admit to feeling a little tired. I have a few days off from tomorrow, so chance to recharge the batteries.

No I didn’t leave my blue jacket at Marco Polo – I’ve hung onto it for nearly 19 years so I couldn’t bear to part with it now. If I’m ever famous enough maybe I could auction it for charity, or maybe it will come back in fashion?!?! LOL
Chiswick Park is a pleasant place to work with the manmade lake and the visiting Canada Geese – better still, our Presenter area has a view over said lake ……. how lucky are we. I even have a dressing room, that I share with Anna Cookson, that has a window – first time in all these years.
