This week at QVC I got to have a fun two-hour gardening show with Richard Jackson. Gardening shows are always fun as the guests all seem to have a very cheeky sense of humour. Micky-taking, innuendo and general fun is always on the cards. One particularly nice thing was that we got to launch Richard’s 2019 gardening diary.
This is always so popular and means a lot to Richard so he’s always understandably curious as to how it will go. Well boy did it go, 1000 diaries were snapped up by you guys in six minutes. It’s a beautiful diary full of gorgeous photography but also month by month hints and tips to help you make the most of your garden. There’s lists of the year’s big gardening events too so you plan ahead for the trips you want to make. What a great gift to yourself or green-fingered friends and family.
Outside of QVC
During school holidays I realise how lucky we are to live by the sea. It can be so expensive keeping kids entertained. Indoor play centres can cost a fortune particularly if you need to feed them when you are out! So having the beach is just perfect, although they always want ice creams which during the summer ends up being nearly every day!
I remember so clearly when I was little that feeling of being cold from the sea and being wrapped up and cuddled by mum. It felt so safe and cosy and I love that I get to do that with my girls. We bought the girls boogie boards to keep them entertained this year too and Tilda is already loving being a little surfer girl. I’m wearing my favourite Amanda Wakeley sunglasses again!
What I’m wearing
I am loving having Ghost at QVC so much. Their style is right up my street and I love all the wonderful colours they bring us. I know I’ve featured it a few times recently but I couldn’t help sharing one more piece! This blouse is fabulous, the red and the star burst pattern is so much fun. It’s got that slight vintage feel and I love the tie at the neck.
I’m bringing you two blouses this week with a nice price difference so that hopefully there is a budget to suit most but also for two different styles. This one is from Fashion by Together and I think it’s a real winner. From the front it’s classic and elegant with the pintuck detailing on the front giving it a ‘dress shirt’ vibe. The shoulders give added interest with the embroidery detail. The wow factor comes from when you turn around though as it has the most beautiful back. It’s beautiful embroidery of flowers and butterflies and it makes this shirt very special in my opinion. What do you think?
What I’m using
I’m always on the hunt for new lip colours. Personally I find that adding a good colour to my lip can brighten my whole face even if I’m not wearing any other make-up. It gives me confidence. So I just ordered the Laura Geller 5 Piece Love Me Matte Lip Crayon Collection. I’m loving all of them, they are really creamy and they are so good for when you’re in a rush. I’m keeping one on the go in my handbag or pocket the whole time.
They aren’t a thin crayon style either so they are very easy to give yourself a quick sweep of colour when you’re in a rush. I don’t even look in a mirror! My lips feel moisturised when I wear them. Some Matte lip colours are drying which isn’t the case with these, I would definitely recommend them. It’s a great mix of pinks with that fabulous berry for when the season moves to Autumn.
I also want to let you know about the Today’s Special Value which is coming your way very soon from LAB Life + Beauty. It’s their famous teeth whitening system. This is something that I own myself, I bought it when it was last on offer over a year ago and this picture is from when I first used it. It’s quick, convenient and if you stick with it, works.
On average the results are 5.4 shades lighter. You use a gel like solution with a light up accelerating gum shield which you pop in and set the timer. It’s fully transportable and you can pop the power pack in your pocket so you can still get things done around the house. There’s no bleach or peroxide which is a winner as that’s often what makes your teeth hurt. There will be a pre-sell on this one so make sure to be following me on social media and I will share the link.
In the Kitchen – Chicken Thighs in creamy garlic, white wine and chives with French Beans with parmesan and almonds
This is a favourite dish of mine, I’ve brought you a similar one before using paprika but this is more of a classic.
What you will need:
Pack of boneless chicken thighs
Double cream (150ml pot)
Garlic cloves (finely chopped)
Shallots – finely chopped (white onions will do but shallots are sweeter)
Salt & pepper
Fine beans or French beans
Pack of flaked almonds
Half a Lemon
Brown off the chicken thighs in a dash of olive oil in a pan. I have the heat between medium and full. I use my saute pan from Circulon (currently on offer!). Once the chicken is sealed all over add the shallots and garlic (finely chopped) to the pan and bring heat to medium so not to burn.
Let that cook for a few minutes or two, add a slug of white wine, squeeze half the lemon over the chicken and let it simmer. If the wine burns off quickly add another slug of wine! Turn the chicken thighs over once or twice throughout to make sure they are browning on both sides. Then add about half the double cream and let simmer, giving a light stir.
Add more cream as desired to get a lovely rich sauce. Turn the heat down a little and leave a while to make sure the chicken is cooked through. (I tend to cut a piece to check the middle is cooked). When this is done, finely chop a handful of fresh chives (I keep a pot on my window sill) and sprinkle all over.
For the side dish, take a pack of fine beans and pop into an oven proof dish. Drizzle with olive oil and then sprinkle with flaked almonds and grated parmesan. You can add a dash of ground rock salt if you want too. Pop into a pre heated oven for around 15 minutes. The time depends on how crunchy you like your beans!
So that’s it for another week, I can’t believe how quickly the weeks are passing at the moment. I will be getting Tilda ready for school before I know it. Ivy will be starting pre-school this September too so I will be making sure to take advantage of this summer time with them. Let me know what plans you have for summer and make sure to keep up with me over on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Lots of love
