These are a few of my favourite things…

Gale Hayman Lip LiftMany of you will already be aware, if you watched Founder's Weekend, that QVC UK will be twenty this coming October. As you can imagine there are lots of things being planned to celebrate this momentous occasion, one of which is to have some of our celebrity guests and some of the presenters choose their favourite fifteen products.

When I was asked, my difficulty was not in finding fifteen products it was how to narrow it down, but I have done my best and here goes.

Gale Hayman Lip Lift – 202671

This is the Home and Away set so that I am never without it, at least that is the plan. I recently was down to my last one which I had inadvertently left at work and I was going to be off for three weeks. No problem I'll just order one, I thought, only to find out it was out of stock. I had to beg our lovely guest Sam to send me one and when it arrived, I texted her, "My lips say thank you!"

Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel – 224234

This is normal size although I usually order the supersize when it is available as I use this gorgeous orangey fragranced cleanser every morning to give my skin a really fresh look and feel.

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic duo – 212060

This was my first and is still my favourite Liz Earle product. Who would have thought of making a toner that wasn't astringent and even has vitamin E in it!

Decleor Hand Cream – 203059

This is the supersize of this hand cream which I keep by my bed and use every night. It might be a combination of good product and good genes but I still have no age spots on my hands even though I am fifty six and I love the sun.

L'Occitane foot creamL'Occitane Foot Cream – 216855

Unlike most foot creams, it has a beautiful lavender aroma rather than peppermint and it has a wonderful 'slip', perfect for a foot massage when I can persuade Chris!!

Emma Hardie Moringa Balm – 200897

This again is the supersize. I like to use this to take my make-up off at night, but I also use it as a moisturising mask, leaving it on for around thirty minutes or so.

Up to this point all my favourites have been beauty products however I do buy lots of other things from QVC…. Where would I be without my…

Pilates machine

I am currently on my third one, the 4 cord machine with the cardio board and the wider platform, and I've recently added the pull-up bar. It is an integral part of my fitness regime and so handy to jump on when I only have twenty minutes and I don't really feel like exercising… no excuses!!!

WintertraxWinterTrax – 564136

What a brilliant product. I am a little unstable in snow and ice because of the weakness in my left leg but these have given me confidence. I was so impressed I bought them for every member of my family and my daughter Sophie even runs in them.

Butler & Wilson Dancing Couple Brooch – 311763

This was my first B & W brooch although not my first piece of Simon's jewellery. I have the original clear option but I hear there may be a colour coming soon to celebrate our birthday that I am going to have to have!!!!!!! I've lost count of the number of times I have loaned this out to friends for special occasions.

H2O Steam Mop

I have two of these. I have the original white one, which I used to keep at my house in Spain, and the red one that splits so that you can use it as a handheld steamer too. I will never use an ordinary mop and detergent again… just love the power of steam.

cook's essentials Stainless Steel Saucepan Set – 833309

I have lots of cook's essentials pans, including an egg poacher, frying pans and a buffet pan, but this set of saucepans is used every day in my household. The non stick is second to none.

BirkenstocksBirkenstock Burma Patent Sandals – 143608

I like lots of the Birkenstock designs but this particular style really suits my feet. With my large toe joint and high instep it is really difficult for me to find shoes that I like so, when I do, Chris always says I should get more than one pair. For once I listened and I'm happy to say I have 3 pairs of these, pink, white & black… so far!

Emu Echidna Sheepskin Boot – 102797

Again I have a few pairs of Emu boots but this particular style seems to have more structure, although I did have to order down a size to a 3 instead of my normal 4. I have them in the chestnut colour.

Tiffany Style Floor Lamp – 821774

If you've read my book, you will know from Chapter 29 that I have 29 of these beautiful handcrafted lamps but this is the only one of my collection that we currently have in the inventory.

And finally, and maybe surprisingly to those of you who know I am something of a technophobe, I LOVE my…

Apple iPad

Chris always jokes that we have become attached at the hip (or should that be finger) and maybe he is right because I can't imagine how I managed without it!!

So these are fifteen of my favourite things from QVC and it set me wondering what yours might me? I realise fifteen is a lot so why don't you let me know your top three?

I hope you can join me for a special Fashion at Five today, it's our Summer Catwalk Show previewing the launch of our summer fashion event all day Sunday and Monday. We have some great new brands and some old favourites including Kim & Co which kicks the event off Saturday midnight, also with yours truly.

Much love, Julia xx

I am like you Julia, I have had my iPad for about year now and I would not be without it, husband thought I would get bored with it and then he could have it but no, he had to buy his own., my two children have their own as well. My husband travels a lot, he is out in Virginia at the moment and with the iPad it is so easy to keep in touch.
My must have products are cleanse and polish, instant boost skin tonic, eye bright, BareMinerals foundation, The Present from Philosophy, mally lipgloss, new CID cream eye shadows and the mally mascara, I could go on and on and on, absolutely love love the beauty products, have just ordered the argon oil today.
I have ordered your book, I will keep it for my hols in August, hubbie and I have treated ourselves to a med cruise, so I will enjoy the read. It is our first cruise so we are really looking forward to it. We will need the rest as we are getting two Labrador/Weimaraner x puppies at the end of April , mad I hear you say.
You are looking really well and I am sure your family and friends are taking good care of you, my sister had cervical cancer 2 years ago, she is in remission now but I know it affects the whole family, we all went to hell and back through those difficult times but we are a close family and we supported each other and I believe now we have a stronger bond
    Take care, keep smiling

    Hi Julia,
I find it incredible that QVC will be celebrating 20 years of broadcasting this year, how time flies!
I keep everything, so finding the item numbers of 3 of my favourite purchases was easy, so here goes.
560-014 Samsung VP MX-20 Camcorder:I bought this as I was impressed with its ease of use and at that time YouTube was starting to feature more in my life and I didn’t have a camera suitable. I still use it and like everything I buy it remains in mint condition several years later.
231-737 Inversion Table:I have suffered badly with chronic back pain most of my life due to a childhood condition called Scheuermann’s disease. After checking with my doctor, he agreed I could use the inversion table as my fractures were old and stable. The table basically hangs me upside down and decompresses my spinal column. This does help with pain relief so I am so grateful QVC delivered it to me.
231-449 Ultrasound Wave Machine:Another side effect of having spinal problems has always been pain in my feet due to the unbalanced areas of pressure. I have Asperger’s Syndrome and cannot bear being touched so having someone give me reflexology has been difficult in the past but not now! This piece of equipment does the trick for me and it certainly is a valued purchase.
So QVC for me is more than just clothes or lotions and potions, it is a place where I can buy things that make my life better and a place where nice people like yourself share your happy and sad times with some of us who are perhaps isolated in the real world. You are all so nice and here’s to the next 20 years of QVC :¬D

My top 3 products from QVC are. Centigrade coats, Leighton Denny nail polish and Denis Basso Boutique. I have lots of others, too many to mention. I love watching QVC.

  5. Joanna Downey April 13, 2013 at 1:09 pm -  Reply

Hello Julia, Working at QVC must be like going into a sweet shop every day and being overwhelmed..! I started thinking about my top three items and had to go on to my reviews to remember all the items I’d bought. After much consideration I decided that my favourites are a double-breasted Centigrade coat – 141237 I had three (all red) and it was the best coat ever. My next one has to be a black and cream rose patterned Tiana B dress – 146396 this is an instant confidence outfit and is as good today as it was when I bought it three years ago. I have a “healthy” collection of Diamonique but number one is a bezel ring – 665076 which looks like a cluster of bubbles and I wore it to my Rebecca’s wedding in 2011. Of course I could go on because I love all my Honora jewellery, Nail Envy, Elemis – especially Pro-collagen Marine Cream, Leighton’s amazing crystal files, Charlie Bears – could never choose a favourite, my gorgeous Butler and Wilson racoon brooch, G-Tech, Kitchenaid, the wonderful Michael’s Liquifix, Wintertrax, Birkenstock, Northern Nights, the lovely Christmas items I’ve bought and my latest stunning Ottoman silver tulip earrings… I now truly understand where the money goes. Enjoy the build up to the birthday. Love from Jo x

3 everything craft!, northern nights and cooks essentials. Lovely to see you looking so good on screen julia. Looking forward to fashion event. Hugs Diane xxx

I’ve shopped with QVC for about 15 years and am hard pushed to narrow down to three things so I’m going to cheat and choose one item plus 2 collections!!
    1. Anything from Northern Nights – I have pillows, duvet and loads of bedding sets. Sadly lost custody of the feather bed in recent divorce – but that will be remedied soon!
    2. Anything from Liz Earle. I love the cleanser and the toner is divine. I use pretty much all of the range but can’t be without the Superskin moisturiser!
    3. My Pilates machine – think I have the same one as you. I had a previous one and hadn’t used it for a while so gave it away to a friend. Then Margolein came on again and re-inspired me so I had to buy a new one and am using it regularly!

  8. Marian Bolton April 14, 2013 at 11:05 am -  Reply

I can easily do fifteen Julia! (I know that won’t surprise you!!) I’ll try to keep it short and sweet though so as not to take up too many pages on your blog! So, in no particular order:
    1. Elemis – all of it! (OK, that one is in order!) You’ve seen my skin after five years of continuous use of this amazing brand, I haven’t aged a day and, in fact, my skin looks better now than it did 5 years ago!
    2. My pilates machine – what you said!
    3. A pair of gold big hoop earrings I bought about three years ago. I love them and, even though I have loads of other pairs, I wear these for work most days. They look great with anything.
    4. RJ’s Flower Power – phenomenal, nuff said!
5.Ultrasun Face 30 – I use it every day of the year over my Elemis. It’s the only sun cream I can use on my face that doesn’t cause lumps and bumps and is a perfect primer.
    6. My Oreck hoover – yes I do manage to get some cleaning done in between pampering sessions! Fantastic performance and very light weight. Makes hoovering a doddle!
    7. Keeley, if you’re reading this, look away now!! Volumising Lipcare from Gatineau!! Keeps my lips ever kissable, which is very important eh Julia!
    8. My EGO hairdryer – great to use a hairdryer that is actually good for my hair.
    9. Compact mirrors (2), the one with the tweezers and LED light with one side normal and one side magnified. I bought them five years ago, could NOT be without them, one in my handbag and one in the bathroom.
    10. (Are you still there Julia!!) A Beauty Box in silver that has all my make up (all from QVC) mostly Bare Minerals and Laura Gellar. It keeps everything neat and easy to access with individual compartments, everything in its place and a place for everything!
    11. Eyeko FAT mascara – simply the best!
    12. A gorgeous B&W necklace I bought about four years ago. It’s in a lovely lilac’y purple colour (you’d love it!), has three strands of beads and a big flat rose. Whenever I wear it, I get asked where it’s from.
    13. A gorgeous leopard faux fur jacket from Mr Basso! To be honest, a lot of his faux furs are a bit OTT for my taste, but this jacket is really chic, like a little tailored style. I indulged a few years ago after checking out what the TSV was before going to work one morning. Gorgeous leggy Sharon was modelling it and I just had to have it. It looks FAB with a black polo jumper and tight black slacks …. very pussy galore!!
    14. A recent purchase this one, but I’m so delighted with the quality that I have to include them. The Northern Nights Baroque Towels. I got them in taupe and duck egg blue. They are superb quality. Anyone reading this and after some new towels, don’t hesitate. I’ve bought them to replace the previous towels I got from QVC about four years ago …. and it’s only cos I fancied a change.
    15. Last, but by no means least Julia, has to be your book! As you know, I didn’t have to buy it as i was lucky enough to win one in your competition. I really loved it and am actually taking it to London with me at the end of the month to read again on the train (first class!!! Chris is really pushing the boat out!!)
OK, I think that’s just about enough from me but, believe me, I could go on!

  9. Marian Bolton April 14, 2013 at 11:29 am -  Reply

Sorry Julia but I’m in such bother! I forgot to mention Thomas, Kelvin, Eddie, Mr Fish, and Sherwood, my gorgeous Charlie Bears. I’ve also bought three others that have gone to good homes as presents and I have another three on the way! x

    Hi Julia,
I think my list of favourites would be the same as yours, but I am going to name four of my real favourites.
    1. Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish
    2. Northern Nights Feather Bed
    3. Samsung Notepad
    4. And my very latest favourite which I love, is the Miele Tumble Dryer, I never thought you would be able to fall in love with a Tumble Dryer. (You certainly can with this one)
I could go on and on with the list as the products, choice and quality at QVC are brilliant.
Hope you are feeling okay, you look well.
    Love Jean X

    Hi Julia
It’s really hard to choose favourite things from QVC, there have been sooo many over the years and no doubt many more to come with all the new ranges that the Q are bringing each week!
Obviously, the first thing is your book, which I haven’t finished yet and keep dipping in and out…had a stressful couple of weeks and a fair few more to come yet no doubt. Here’s the main purchases from QVC.
    1. I wouldn’t be without Gatineau’s Floracil, used it for many, many years now.
    2. Anything to do with make up – currently, Bare Minerals Powder Foundation (Does anybody know how to get the sifters off? I’ve got loads left in the pot, but it won’t come out and hate throwing good stuff away…can’t budge the pesky thing!) Mally, Eyeko Curvy and Laura Gellar lipstick
    3. My AeroPilates 4 corded machine, which I would not have purchased if it wasn’t for you thinking it would help with the movement of my ankle following my accident and it did…thank you!
I also love 821774, Tiffany Butterflies and Roses floor lamp, which lights up my lounge, missed out from QVC, but found at a local Antiques store.
I see you didn’t go the whole hog like me and have 12 inches off your hair. Will you have some layers put in? I must say, I do like the photo you put on Twitter with the layers. I know when I first had mine cut it was easier to blow dry, didn’t need a round brush, just my fingers…the cut was so good it fell into place!
Chris was off over Easter and we all went down to Broadway in Worcs, where Thomas Kinkade has his Gallery and I can understand why he loved the area, it was beautiful. The Gallery has a thatched roof and a sale on, so I went and asked if we could bring Bobby in as long as Chris carried him round, he said Bobby was OK and no need to carry him, which was nice…you’ve guessed it, we came away with something. A signed Limited Edition of Emerald Isle Cottage, which Chris really liked. It has quite a dark sky with the sun trying to break through, with loads of rays streaming down and the spooky thing was, we had that same sky follow us all the way home!

    Hi Julia
I can’t believe QVC is almost 20 and I’ve been watching at least 18.
Mmm my 3 faves would be:
Liz Earle Skin Tonic – been using this since its conception with the original cream and brown label. It’s still the best and I’ve tried many believe me and the smell is divine.
Vax lightweight vacuum – first big item I ever bought from the Q and its just right for me and does what it says on the tin or box even LOL
Elemis pro radiance cleanser – this has taken over from cleanse & polish as I now find that drying. Takes off all makeup and leaves my skin really soft.
Others IPad & IPhone love gadgets use them everyday without fail. My Diamonique silver hoop earrings and B&W spider brooch. Simon used to make a moon face brooch with chains hanging down could never find one but it was so classy and elegant. I’m sure he will remember.
Ps: first writing lesson was really good I’m now inspired, so glad I took the plunge and believed in myself. Thank you for the push.
Have a great week and hope Palace win on Tuesday.
    Joy xx
PPS: so many red herrings in Broadchurch, still not sure who the killer is!!

    Hi Julia
I’m over half way through your book now and I’m really enjoying it! Can hardly put it down, I’ve not had much time to read lately otherwise I would have finished it! You will defiantely have to write another book! There are quite a few things I can relate to and I’ve also enjoyed looking at the photos. Once I’ve finished it I will write a review.
Also just to let you know that I have made your leek and potato soup about four times and it has gone down a storm, so if you have any more recipes, please share!
As you I have bought a lot from QVC over the years and found it quite difficult to narrow it dowm to my top three so thought I would tell you my topt 15!
    Here goes….
    1)Pilates machine – can’t live without
    2)Bare minerals foundation & concealor
    3)Liz Earle cleanse & polish

10)Honora pearls – a set of 10 that I wear all the time!
    11)Prostrong nail gel
12)1 litre of ABC skincare wash
    13)Feather & down matress topper
14)Kipling bag – great for holidays
15)QVCs own grip to me hangers
I’m sure I can think of more, but I will leave it at that.
Enjoy the rest of the week.

Hi Julia, For me I would have a top 4 favourite items.
No 1 is my Centigrade Duvet coat – had it for about 3 years now. Its so warm and cosy in the winter in fact I have still been wearing it up until last week with the cold weather we;ve had.
No 2 is my Kipling bag collection. Its thanks to QVC I was introduced to them and I love, love, love them! I began with the Jeti bag and now have 2 purses,2 make up type ones and 4 bags.
No 3 is L’occitane products. My favourite is Shea butter handcream. Have had loads of this over the years and can’t bear to be without it.
No 4 is a seasonal one as it is a Buckley Christmas brooch. Its a snowman with a red enamel body and scarf and has lovely sparkly stones. Every year when I fetch it out I get so many comments on him.
    So thats me!

    Hi Julia
Just thought of one more product that I have had for some 10 years now and I don’t know if you remember at all.
It is a set of self watering hanging baskets? They were brought to QVC by that lovely gentleman called David ?, can’t remember his surname, but he talks very fast and now brings the furminator, do you know who I mean?
The baskets are brilliant and came with very ornate brackets, which look like metal. Each basket has a cone on the bottom which you un-screw and on the inside there is a tube with material in and the tube comes out of the end of the basket you then fill the cone with water, screw it back on the bottom of the basket, the material sucks the water up through the tube – hey presto, self watering!
They come out every year and I wouldn’t be without them.

    Hi Debi
I can’t believe how many of you girls can’t count to three!! Only joking – I know how difficult it was to narrow my choices down to fifteen! You are obviously a fan of our beauty products at QVC.
It made me laugh to think that your hubby thought he was going to get his hands on your iPad … no chance!
Hope you have a lovely holiday in August and thanks for ordering my book to take with you, hope you’ll enjoy it.

    Hello Alfred
How fabulous that two of your top three have been to make your life a little easier with regard to health issues. We have an inversion table, bought to help my partner Chris with his ‘dodgy’ back but I’m afraid it has been stuck in the garage since we sold our house two and a half years ago ….. we are still looking for a new permanent home!
Thanks for your kind compliments and glad to be company for you

This looks like being a fab run up to the 20th birthday on October 1st – lots of special products planned from some of your favourite brands. Watch out towards the end of May for something special from Diamonique ( but shhhhh, I didn’t tell you!)

I think all the girls have cheated on this task …… interesting that Alfred could limit himself to three, but I guess we don’t have so many products available for guys!
I’m so glad that you have been re-inspired to start Pilates again – Marjolein is over next weekend – and definitely treat yourself to a new feather bed

    Hi Marion
You are right, I knew you would have no problem in compiling a list of fifteen, although everything Elemis takes it way over the fifteen mark!
You did make me laugh describing your Oreck as a ‘Hoover’!!! I love my Oreck too.
Thanks for selecting my book as one of your favourites – very kind of you – but that made you forget the Charlie Bears! I think Pipa has also been asked to compile her top 15 so we’ll have to see how many (if any) products we agree on.
Again have a fab birthday weekend

    Hi Marissa
It was supposed to be a top three! Judging by your list I am guessing you are a nails and skincare girl? I must say I love the Bare Minerals Ready Foundation too – perfect coverage for on air!
    Thanks for doing your list

    Hello Jean
I love the diversity of your four choices and I can understand why you have fallen in love with a Miele appliance ….. I had a Miele dishwasher at our old house which we sold to the person who bought the house because he wanted it! It is my favourite dishwasher ever and I will definitely get another one (if we ever find a house to buy).
I’m feeling pretty good at the moment – I think the holiday really helped even though it seems ages ago now.

    Hi Annette
I think you did pretty well trying to condense your list to 3 items – numbers 1 and 3 were single items but number 2????? Slipped rather a few beauty products in there, did you think I wouldn’t notice LOL! BTW I use the point of an old pair of tweezers that I no longer use for plucking to get the sifter off BUT you have to do it VERY carefully.
You also managed to slip in the Tiffany lamp and my book …. thanks so much for choosing the latter.

    Hi Hefina
I’m glad you like my hair shorter – it is certainly easier to blow dry and feels in better condition as the ends were starting to feel dehydrated. I might have a little more off next appointment particularly from the front.
I have just started using a Bare Minerals solid blush called ‘ A Close Call’ , it’s a really delicate peachy pink and looks very natural.
    Thanks for the compliments

    Hi Joy
So pleased to hear that you have been for your first writing lesson ….. who knows, one day you might be a best selling author and all because you took that first step,
Love love love Liz Earle instant Boost skin tonic – I agree with you, simply the best.
Can you believe I am on air with Simon Wilson tonight during the final episode of Broadchurch ….. Chris is going to stay up until I get home and we are going to watch it then.

    Hi Alana
I am so pleased you are enjoying reading my book – I think the fact that it is not written in chronological order makes it a pick up and put down book, because you don’t need to remind yourself of the previous chapter if there is a gap between reading sessions. It would be lovely if you left me a review when you’ve finished. It’s not on QVC again until the 4th May and the e book should be out towards the end of May.
Also glad you liked the potato and leek soup recipe …. we have it quite often in the winter. Watch this space and I’ll put some summer recipes up soon.
Your list was filled with a lot of the things I like ……. Grip to me hangers!!! Just brilliant!

    Hi Denise
Nice try ……. Two actual items and two collections of products! I think your Kipling collection alone exceeds the requested three favourite products. Still it was only for fun and I am just so pleased that so many of you are so happy with your QVC purchases.
Hopefully you will be able to put away your Centigrade coat for this winter as I hear warmer temperatures are on the way … fingers crossed

    Hi Tania
Considering you have been a QVC customer for fourteen years I guess it’s not too bad to be able to narrow your favourite QVC purchases down to one for each year!
Emma Hardie Moringa Balm is great isn’t it – I wonder if you buy it in the supersize too.
Hope you’ll keep shopping for lots more favourite things

    Hi again Annette
I had those baskets too, what a clever idea cos it meant you could go on holiday without having to ask your neighbours to water the hanging baskets.
BTW forgot to say I will probably have a bit more cut off my hair particularly at the front with a little bit of layering like the picture I tweeted. I think my hairdresser was a bit nervous cos I usually tell him not to tale off more than half an inch!

    Hi Shirley
In honesty it’s a ‘maybe’ answer. It comes with a head that has long microfibres fingers on it which would be the best head to use but I think you would have to try it and if it was no good send it back.
Sorry I can’t be more definitive but I haven’t tried it on the type of floor you are describing and I wouldn’t want to mislead you
    Hope that helps
