My make-up routine from start to finish!

“Claire, would you mind letting us film you getting your ‘everyday’ face on? We think it may make interesting viewing… be bare-faced and ready at 2pm pleeeeeease”

Well, if Rox, one of the Producers for our additional channels, thought it may make interesting viewing, who am I to argue, though after a number of early 5am starts and the usual busy days in between those on QVC, the thought of bare-faced at 48 years old was a little daunting (I think that was clearly shown on my face as Rox snapped me before we got going).

clare behind the scene edit

Anyway, off we went and the result is below. I hope you agree with Rox and do find it interesting – does it bear resemblance to what you do? Incidentally all of that can happen in about four minutes flat, but I thought I would do it carefully as you were watching. It did amuse me when Charlie came in and had watched it all the way through and was quoting things back to me to prove he had watched it, though let’s hope he doesn’t start putting any of it into practice!

The video is also going to be played during ‘Make-Up Tutorials’ on Friday 12th June at 11am and Sunday 14th at 1pm and ‘Meet the Presenter’ on Sunday 14th at 5pm if you fancy watching on QVC Beauty on Sky channel 668, Freesat channel 816, Freeview channel 35 or online right here.

Do you know that QVC commissioned a survey of 2,003 UK adults in May as we prepared to celebrate June Beauty Month, and had some fabulous and fun findings? It was reported that 68% of women would not want to emulate the heavily made-up beach look sported by some celebrities, favouring instead a more natural look. I’m not saying that my look is a beach look, but it’s fairly natural in the scheme of things I guess.

It also appears that in the North you’re likely to spend £200 on pre-holiday treatments (fake tan being a number one priority!) and just £80 in the South with manicure and pedicures being the main indulgence. I wonder what your priority is when it comes to getting yourself “beach ready”, or pool-side ready for that matter, if you’re sand phobic like me! Do let me know as I think it’ll make for fab reading. Oh and do put whether you are from the North or South and we can conduct our own little survey.

I wouldn’t fake tan before a holiday but the removal of any hair one wishes not to be seen is a priority for sure and that was certainly classed as one of the survey nightmares, along with pinkness on day one and see-through swimwear! Yup, I recall that was one nightmare that came true for me one year… never again so far! I was also shocked to read that although 70% buy sunscreen before their holiday only 43% actually apply it. Do not let Abby Cleeves or Alison Young read that … let us not forget it’s our biggest weapon in this world of “Beauty”.

One of my dreams (still to be realized – Dan take note!) is to be told to arrive at the airport as I am to be then allowed free reign to buy everything for the trip at the airport. That would be such fun, although I’m a creature of habit when it comes to holidays with favourite outfits, sarongs, bikinis etc… that said, I am SO up for it. Has that ever happened for you?

Talking of indulgence, it’s my lovely husband’s birthday this week and I have him booked in with me for a pamper. It’s a surprise but I really hope he is man enough to enjoy a full body massage, deep cleanse facial, pedicure and manicure. It’s going to be most amusing, the poor girls at the spa coping with Mr. Landscaper’s hands and muscles for that matter, though he does less of the physical stuff these days and spends hours at his desk, designing, quoting, and sorting everything, so much so that last week some tough physical work has resulted in Mr. Banana Man! He is currently at the chiropractor and I’m hoping he returns upright and not with one half of his body angled weirdly over to one side.

My next blog will be “Brotherly Love” as we’ve got Neil, my brother, back home for two lovely weeks…Oz and Singapore are sooooo far away!

Do let me know if you liked the video, and do chat back, you know I love that.

Lots of love, Claire xx

Hi Claire I do not wear a lot of make up as I have never mastered the natural look, so thoroughly enjoyed your demo have ordered the complexion rescue from BM and will se if that looks better than the other kinds I have drawers full of.

    Hi Claire,

Thanks for another fascinating blog. I really love your video. It was lovely to have a more informal, friendly view. As we have discussed before, less is most definitely more when it comes to make up. You look awesome without makeup and this video just goes to prove it! You have a lovely smile too.

Please do more of these “behind the scenes” videos as they are very interesting.

Thanks again for another update – looking forward to the next one!

    Cheers, K.

Hi Clara. Loved the video and the look. I go almost bare faced at the weekend.. Walking on the beach on Saturday and Sunday wakes up my skin and I sometimes get a sand scrub depending on the wind! My work make up takes ten minutes. LG primer then balance and brighten. Then L G contour ing to find my cheekbones. Then eyebrows by YBF, eyeshadow by LG or Doll 10, blush by LG or Mally then macsara..roller lash or they’re real by benefit. Then lippy by Doll 10 in absolute favourite. Quick easy and ready to go! Xx

Hi Claire – loved your demo – it was so funny – my lovely hubby said he thought I was talking to myself when it was you!!! I wear Bare Minerals and would not dream of opening the door without my face even though it may not looked “made up”.
Delighted to read your other blog with the superb school results – well done after all the hard work and worry and not giving up – it has paid off and I am thrilled for all your family. My daughter had the great news that her son was accepted at the school of her choice and we were equally thrilled when the news arrived. Your summer will be so much better with the knowledge that come September there will be no worries about schools etc. Thanks for such a laugh – it really was brilliant – Jilly 🙂

Hi Claire, it was smashing watching you put on your make up. I have the same colouring as you and it nice to see someone else without make up looking so pale!
I have been wondering about giving the Benefit Gimme brows a go..your eyebrows are slightly darker than mine and thicker but I might just try it. Thanks so much for making my day and making me chuckle. M

Hello lovely Claire, what a great tutorial you gave showing not only how beautiful you are with and without makeup (your skin is wonderful), but your happy, warm honest personality came through. (I was a Sales Lady and my genuine personality was always a winner with customers, as is yours). It was easy to watch and a great way to ensure we buy the right products. I love it when Stacey from YBF does the same (you should do a duet!). It is much more honest airing the makeup this way and gives the customer more confidence to purchase as opposed to seeing a young, chisel faced model who is often made up to start with. I am sure QVC are very proud of you and love you as much as me and many other customers. “go girl, you’re a winner and a lovely lady” love to you and your family. I’d love to do a duet with you Claire!!! My very best wishes xxxx looking forward to more from you and the best shopping Chanel on TV. Much love from a QVC addict xx

Hi lovely Claire. Thank you for your make up tips. You always look lovely. Can I ask you please what shade of Laura Geller bronzer you used as there are three shades to choose from. I liked the shade you put on and I think I would use the same. Thank you Love Christine.x

    Hi Claire,

Can I just say that was very brave of you to do that – going totally bare without make-up I mean but for the purpose of the video, a brilliant idea!

I loved watching it, picked up a few little things maybe I should be doing too, I don’t wear a lot day to day – bit like you – moisturizer, eye liner, eye treatments before makeup (to make me look awake and with it!) highlighter – blusher & either a bit of lippy of a pretty lip balm so I really appreciated this……

I’d like to see more of the other girlie presenters doing it…..maybe even Ali Young?

Also I normally don’t bother with things for my brows, but now you’ve got me thinking, maybe I should now?
Anyway, I found this very insightful though…..well done for taking the plunge!

A QVC fan (much to my boyfriend’s disgruntlement!)

    Michelle xx
