My Little Princess

Sophie as a babyOn last week's blog I posted a couple of pictures of my first born, my son Daniel, so to be even-handed, and at the request of Martin, here is a picture of my daughter, Sophie. This is one of my favourite baby pictures of her wearing a dress I knitted for her to attend our friends' wedding.

She was just two months old and was very well-behaved at the wedding… it was sleeping through the night that was the problem at this stage! She has always been a bit of a night owl, not wanting to go to bed at night and not wanting to get up in the morning. I am very impressed that she now gets up before 7am each morning to get to her job in the city – I didn't think she had it in her!

Julia and her liliesThe Presenter Lily Challenge is in its final stage… deadline day is 18th August. For those of you who don't know, Michael Perry, from Thompson & Morgan, gave all the presenters; 10 lily bulbs, compost, a pot and instructions at the end of May.

The best display will win the coveted prize of having the beautiful velvety-red lily named after them. Some of the other presenters are being a little secretive, but I don't mind sharing… I've done my best and I'm pretty pleased with the way they are looking.

I've never had such good results with lilies before, so these must be an easy variety to grow. Stunning, aren't they?

I have a busy weekend ahead on QVC including Kim & Co. shows today and tomorrow, L'Occitane and Liz Earle and also the launch of a new range of footwear called Vionic at midnight on Sunday. The TSV is an open-backed 'mary-jane' style clog which is podiatrist designed for support, particularly under the instep.

Julia's Tiffany lampTalking of TSV's there is one coming up in a couple of weeks' time that means I might have to do a re-write of my book! If you have read 'One Hundred Lengths of the Pool' you will know that chapter 29 is the number of Tiffany-style lights that I own.

Here is the dilemma – the TSV is this gorgeous lamp which I am lucky enough to have been given a sample of…do I get rid of one of my others or do a re-write? Only joking, I've already invalidated chapter 41 (the number of countries I have visited) by going on holiday to Mauritius earlier in the year!

Hope you have a great weekend and can join me for some of my shows.

    Hi Julia,
Lovely photograph of Sophie, it is nice to look back at them isnt it. Where is she working now, as I know you mentioned a smart dress the other day, I believe it was Kim and Co, and you said that would be great for Sophie as she has to wear smart clothes at the Office.
Wow your Lillies do look stunning, gorgeous colour. Good luck with the final result.
Tiffany Lights they are super, I have the Peacock which is very much admired also the standard lamps are beautiful, I dont have as many as you.
Watched the Vionic show this morning (TSV). they look very comfortable, lets hope so as I have ordered a black pair and blue on advanced order.
Take care and good luck with the Lillies.
    Love Jean XX

    Hi Julia
Both baby pictures are gorgeous. Your lilies look super and will take some beating! Fab colour too.
I baked that Dorset Apple Cake again at the weekend, it was delicious but didn’t rise much this time. Do you hand mix or use a Kitchen Aid or similar mixer? I’d love to have your coffee and walnut cake recipe some time on your blog please.
Heard you mentioning the ‘circle of trust’ the other day. I love those films too. Robert de Niro is just hilarious in them isn’t he!!
Looking forward to the Elemis Mini Series next week. Keeley had mentioned that she was thinking of having me on there but clearly it wasn’t to be! Maybe next time eh!! Give her a big hug from me.

    Hi Martin
Sorry I didn’t reply to your first comment but it wasn’t put up on Monday when I replied to you on last week’s blog. I’m trying to find out what the delay was.
She really was a pretty baby and she’s not too bad now!

    Hello Jean
Did you get your Vionic TSV yet? I thought they were comfy – a bit different from Birkies with no toe-grip bar so give them a chance. I think you will love the blue …. I liked them and the red best. Maybe I could wear one of each to the football this season?!?!
Sophie is working in executive recruitment I.e. headhunting. She has been promoted twice since joining the company 16 months ago so maybe she has found her niche.
I’m really pleased with the lilies … Anna’s look amazing too so I think they are just easy to grow in a sunny spot.

    Hi Marian
I haven’t baked Dorset Apple cake since we moved 14 months ago – think I will do it at the weekend as we have Chris’s mum coming to stay. I don’t own a Kitchenaid but I do kinda fancy having one – just good old elbow grease at the moment. I’ll put the recipe for coffee & walnut cake on here either this week or next week.
I LOVE the ‘Meet The ….’ Series of films …. probably should have been in my top10 in my book!
Can’t wait to see Keeley next week. I’m not with her until Friday but will give her a hug from you.
    Speak soon

Hi Julia watching you in the Lesley Ebbetts black lace dress, you look lovely and like your hair up. Hope you are keeping well. By the way are the black chunky platform sandals you are wearing available to buy at QVC?

    Hi Tally
Yes I am keeping well thanks.
My mum likes my hair up …. I never feel overly confident though so it’s nice to receive your compliment. I loved the black lace dress – think you’ll be seeing me wear that a lot!
My shoes are not from QVC they are Kurt Geiger – sorry!

    Hi Candy
Good luck with all the renovations.
I think this lamp is a perfect size for the top of a sideboard, it’s 16 inches high and the shade is 12 inches across. I agree about the colours … really pretty.
You’ll be catching up with me soon!

    Dear Ginny
I am so sorry to hear that Jeff is not doing so great, but it is you I feel for as not only do you have to watch this happening to someone you love, you also have the day to day care which must be incredibly tough. Please try to look after yourself – you must eat cos you must stay well for the difficult road ahead.
I am thinking of you and hoping you can stay positive – I kind of know you will.
    Much love to you both
