Hi there, thanks for taking time to see what I’ve been up to this week! I turned the grand old age of 39 last weekend and it was a jam-packed weekend of work and play. I have to admit a 6.30am wake-up call is not my preferred start to a Birthday but with the launch of the latest run of The Weekend Kitchen I didn’t mind getting up for work!
We had a lot of fun during the show and you all seemed to enjoy what Marcus was cooking up, he made some amazing recipes which you can see on last week’s post. One of my favourites was the scotch eggs that he made out of the Althams sausages. They were incredible, so I will definitely be trying to make those! At the end of the show Will surprised me with a Birthday Cake made by our fabulous Jo, who is part of our kitchen team. So much preparation goes into a food show and Jo is one of the masters who makes it all happen, thanks so much Jo!
As I was working all weekend I was staying up at my parents, so Fred brought the girls up to stay too so we could spend the afternoon all together. When I got home they had brought me balloons, presents and a cake decorated with unicorns and rainbows, perfect to come home to. We popped out for afternoon tea and a walk and then in the evening my oldest friends came over for a curry. Not a bad way to spend a Birthday.
What I’ve been using in beauty – Molton Brown Today’s Special Value
I’ve been lucky enough to get to try the full Floral Collection of this Saturday’s (9th March) Today’s Special Value from Molton Brown. I can’t get enough of it, I’ve been showering and bathing in it and also washing my hands with it too so I have smelt like a floral explosion all week! Tilda and Ivy are desperate to use it all the time too, not just because it smells so good but because it’s pink.
As always I am so impressed with the fact that the incredible fragrance stays on your skin throughout the day, such is the level of exceptional ingredients. In the Floral you can expect notes of Pomegranate, Ginger, Davana Blossom, Rosa Absolute, Rubarb and Pink Peppercorn. You will receive a 300ml size of the Hand Wash and two body washes. You will then also get a 100ml of a Hand Wash and Body Wash. If Floral isn’t your thing then we also have the beautiful Fresh collection with citrus notes, Bergamot and Sandalwood. Tune in on Saturday to see the full presentation, this could be the perfect Mothe’rs Day present or just a treat to yourself.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but denim is everywhere at the moment. Denim dresses, shirts, skirts and of course jeans. It’s the shirts I’m most interested in right now though because the classic cowboy shirt has been given a make-over. It’s all about detail and frill right now. So this Isaac Mizrahi shirt is spot-on in terms of trends. I love the softness of the material and the length, it’s got good bum coverage!
The frill detail on the sleeves and around the bottom is super feminine and pretty and makes a real feature of the shirt. I’ve worn mine simply with a pair of faux leather trousers and Skechers trainers and of course added some funky, fun Toolally jewellery. These are officially launching on jewellery day on the Sunday 10th March but you can already shop ahead now if you want to check out the collection. I’m wearing the Art Deco style chandelier earrings in Citrus but there is also a Rainbow and Pink option. The other pieces pictured are the Boatman Necklace and the diamond shape drop earrings in Nude. Toolally is all about colour and fun and the perfect addition to your jewellery for spring and summer.
The Weekend Kitchen
So this week the fabulous Dean Edwards will be joining me and Will for the second Weekend Kitchen. He will be whipping up Crumbles, Gnocchi, Beef Ragu and even a Raspberry Cake and Butter pudding. I’m hungry already thinking about it!
I also got to have a go in the kitchen with some of the gorgeous food that’s coming your way so here’s what I did with the Campbells Steaks and the Pork chops from the variety meat selection.
Inspired by Marcus’ from last week I made a chimichurri sauce for the steaks.
I used – a good slug of olive oil, a whole lime squeezed, two garlic cloves, a tablespoon of red wine vinegar a bunch of fresh flat leaf parsley and a bunch of fresh oregano and one whole red chilli (I removed the seeds). I blitzed it in a blender and left to the side.
I seasoned the steaks and let them sit out for a little while, covered. I then griddled them for about four minutes on each side. I would have liked them to be pinker so I should have done three minutes each side! After leaving them to rest to retain all the juices I then sliced them and poured over the chimichurri. They were out of this world, if I do say so myself. I was so impressed with the quality of the meat.
For the Pork – I went classic and cooked it with apple.
Dean had the same idea and his recipe is below, like a true Bristolian he went for cider with his! I didn’t have any cider so I simply started the pork chops off in the frying pan to start to brown them. I then added sliced apple and white onion plus vegetable stock to simmer. I added a tablespoon of jarred apple sauce for extra sweetness.
I let it reduce for a little while and I served mine with classic colcannon mash (which is simply fried cabbage added to mashed potato, extra butter, cream too if you want to be really naughty!). Again the meat was to die for. I will definitely be ordering the meat selection again which also includes mince and lamb chops. Tune in at 12pm this Saturday 9th March to see Dean create his gorgeous recipes. I have added his below so you can cook along at home if you wish!
That’s it from me this week, I will of course be back again next week with more recipes from The Weekend Kitchen. Make sure to keep up with me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and I will no doubt be bringing you behind the scenes before the show.
Lots of love, thanks again for reading my blogs.
