MDD Open Day – lots of puppies!

This weekend I caught up with the lovely puppy Lesley and many of the official canine partners and talented dogs, helping their owners to remain more healthy. As usual there’s more about the charity on my website.

Doggy day out in Stowe School, Bucks.

As an ambassador to the Medical Detection Dogs charity, I get involved in all sorts. This time it was the open day for all the volunteers, owners and doggies. I had to get up and do a little speech – regulars will know I’m not the best at that, so I was quite proud of myself once it was done. It’s been announced that MDD will now be doing some Malaria infection detection studies, where dogs may be useful yet again, over and above what they are bred for! The founder, Dr Claire Guest, did her usual wonderful chat about the latest finds and Rob Harris and Ozzie did their usual excellent sniffing demo. Turns out that 5% of humans are actually super-sniffers! Are you? My daughter Lauren, my sis Linda and my pal Jilly Halliday are definitely some – I’m not – unless I don’t eat dairy for weeks, then my sense of smell sharpens up! Anyway, at the MDD Vintage Tea and Fete on June 12th we will have a special ‘guess the sniff’ table so you can test yourself!

It was lovely to be amongst ‘my people’ once more – specially these two! Lesley puppy is 16 weeks old now and the darker of the two.

Then all the new ‘graduates’ got up and received their certificates – here are some of the amazing partnerships, including many who have diabetes type 1, where the dog detects too high or too low blood sugar on their owner’s breath, plus Addison’s and POTS detectors. More info here on the MDD website if you’d like to find out more.

Here’s another one of the stories of someone whose life has been changed by this wonderful charity which I’m proud to be part of. Yasmine’s life has changed beyond recognition as her poggy Nano detects nuts, as she has a severe nut allergy. So bad, at the MDD lunch, she had to call out the paramedics. But mostly her dog will warn her not to even go into an office or a room if there are nuts in the air. Do read it. Your donations help make all this possible. It actually makes you really grateful for your lot – do you know what I mean? I think ‘I don’t feel to good.’ ‘Why?’ ‘Because I stayed up too late and ate rubbish.’ ‘Well you got no problems!’

And here are some of the doggy heroes changing people’s lives.

Theatre Trip Going to see ‘sideways’ the theatre production. Cleverly adapted from the book and the famous film which shot the inimitable Paul Giammatti to stardom, Sideways (@sidewaysOnStage) had a packed house when I went there on Monday after my QVC shift. It was lovely to catch up with her and she’s done a super job with the show. I went with my MDD-fundraising pal Sara, and had a lovely meal beforehand in the upstairs Brasserie. I only found out afterwards I was spotted when another friend showed me a surreptitious shot of me from directly across the restaurant whilst I was on my iphone! It was a bit like a detective plot! Hehe! Anyway I love the theatre and would highly recommend it.

Watch – Sideways , St James Theatre, Victoria One advantage of doing earlier shows! Amy Anzel, now nearly 6 months pregnant and blooming, is once again producing a super vibrant production with clever staging that made for some smooth scene changes and mood-changes as the two unlikely companions go on a final ‘bachelor boy’ week in the wine country of California. Tons of mentions of wine, which caused a rush to the bar at interval! But they went completely over my head most of the time #cupOfTeaWoman! Would definitely recommend it though. On till 9th July. More here.

Riwisi – Julia’s book ‘It’s Never too Late to say…’ is doing well with 5 five-star reviews already – it’s book of the week over on my Read it Write it Sell it blog here. Also – top recommendations for new audible books via star narrators, plus an agent interview – what is she looking for atm?

Beauty month  – To celebrate June being all about beauty we’re giving four people the chance to win a QVC Beauty Hamper worth over £100. More details here.

Here’s one from me about my fave desert island product – liplift. Probably the one thing I could never do without cos nothing else will do what it does. Well, that and Australia Bodycare’s Tea Tree Oil, Babyliss’ big hair (400777), ultrasun’s Discovery Collection (213738). And the Sunbuddy Back Lotion Applicator is just hitting the top ten as a new entry… hehe.

Liplift to the Rescue It was 1997 and I had dry cracked corners of my mouth which not even camillosan ( If I remember right!) cream – which is sore nipple cream for breastfeeders – lol – made a difference. That was until Ali Young instructed me to Gale Hayman’s Lip Lift. It worked, and I’ve used it practically every day since then. Take  a look!

June’s beauty pick of the month is Elemis’ Superfood Facial Skin Oil go here to read about it . Watch out for my review of it in my June 17th blog.
