March’s Pick of the Month – Decleor Prolagene Gel

BPOM - 204963This is a world renowned iconic product that has stood the test of time, using the same formulation for forty years.

I consider it one of the best kept beauty secrets that I have ever shared with you because, in the early days, this was a ‘trade only’ formula. As therapists we would use it in our salon treatments, but as a customer you couldn’t buy it.

It is one of the few products that I can honestly say will give skin improvement to everyone!

The first reason I love recommending this is based on the results I saw on my own skin when I was in my late teens to early 20s dealing with acne and eczema. For me, this was the key product that has left, to this day, no scarring.

Over the years, this has been a highly recommended product when any client or customer has said that either themselves or their children suffer from profuse spotting, associated scarring, marks, or damage to the skin from trauma. I also recommend it post-surgery if you are having any procedures done; that's as long as your doctor or nurse has said that the scarring is dry and has cleared you to apply beauty products.

For example, during my time at the Grayshott Hall spa I worked in a team with resident doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists where we offered rehabilitation for clients recovering from surgery. I remember getting some great results on people who came to stay with us after open-heart surgery, double mastectomies, and amputations.

So, as you can see, the clients that I was working with had a much greater need than just a normal beauty client and we were all thrilled with the resulting look of the skin on the traumatised areas.

If you are working on the damaged skin area apply the Prolagene Gel at least twice a day, underneath any other moisturisers or serums, and remember any scarred or traumatised skin should not receive any sun exposure for at least one to two years. I find, although a tan may disguise the look of problem skin, the sun thickens and darkens any scarring.

My second recommendation for Prolagene Gel is to use it as a skin firming and contouring anti-ageing product. This way can be used anywhere on the face and body, even the eyelids and up to the lashes around the eye. This was always the secret of how the Decleor therapists could get an amazing finish on the skin in just one treatment because the Prolagene Gel would be one of the most used products during a facial, body, or bust treatment.

When you are using it as an anti-ageing formula or a firmer, my favourite way to apply is to put it on before any other products. But, you can also mix it into any moisturisers, eye creams, masks, body creams, or hand lotions to super-charge them.

By the way, men love it for all of the above reasons but also because it is non-greasy. I will often recommend it to a man or someone with oily skin if they don’t like wearing moisturiser but do want anti-ageing effects or to smoothen the look of scars.

Just to let you know, the 400ml size at this price has never been made for retail anywhere in the world before and is another example of the excellence of QVC Beauty. The normal 150ml size is £36.52 and this is a 400ml size, which is 2 ½ times bigger. I would expect it to last six months to a year after one person’s use.

Sorry if I have gone on longer than normal but this is a product that is very close to my heart, and worthy of your hard-earned cash!

    Hi Ali
Thank you so much for putting together this supersize 400ml Decleor Prolagene Gel.
Approx 3 years ago I wrote on your blog following an accident whereby I dislocated my foot and broke my ankle in 2 places (a real footballers injury). This resulted in surgery to install a plate and pins…I was frightened to death to put anything on the scar area and it was Julia who suggested Prolagene Gel. It arrived and I sat looking at it for days before plucking up the courage to apply, mixing it with Aqueous Cream which is what was suggested to use and when it was aching and bruised is mixed it with SBC Arnica Gel. It worked wonders, but after a lot of discomfort I had the plate and pins taken out last July and have been using it ever since, to the point that I was at the end of my duo set and Julia gave the ‘heads up’ that the pick of the month was Decleor Prolagene Gel, but nothing on the configuration…400ml brilliant, ordered straight away and it arrived in super quick time!
Thank you to whoever put this together, beit yourself, Fiona or the buyers, it is very much appreciated!
I do have one question to ask about another use…you say you used it for eczema. Well my scalp has become very lumpy, bumpy, sore and my hair has started to fall out at a fast rate (blood tests on Thurs to check for thyroid, hormones etc to see what’s the cause of hair loss) Dr said the lumpy bumpy bit was a type of eczema last week. I’ve not changed anything diet or shampoo and conditioner and have tried AB’s Tea Tree Oil in shampoo, but still spotty…could you apply a little Prolagene Gel to scalp?? Just a thought!

Hi Alison. I saw on the Beauty Showcase 1-2am today, that you were on a mission to find Rosehip Syrup. I’ve found it for you! sell it. It is by Atkins & Potts,£3.79 for can have it delivered, or they have stores. The nearest ones to you would be Epsom,Bromley and Wimbledon I would think. I’m in Purley,so same applies to me. I too remember loving the flavour as a child. Hope this helps!!! Jill Wheeler.

    Hi Ali
I am desperate for help and nobody else is able to give me a definitive answer despite many, many emails. Do I apply Ultrasun before or after Prolagene? Ultrasun say to apply on cleansed skin and allowed to absorb for a few minutes; Decleor say to apply Prolagene on cleansed skin before layering any other product. Pleeeeeeease put me out of my misery – I just can’t seem to get a response. Products are not cheap so I really would like to use properly. Perhaps one can’t use both – just one or the other? Thanks so much for your help.

    Hello Alison
I love this gel and I have used Decleor since the mid 80s. I’m 66 in December and now that I’ve told you this, if my friends read this, well they’ll know, because I can assure you no one thinks I am the age I am. I have always taken care of my skin and I layer just as you often talk about.
I’ve recently been amazed at how much of Decleor is sold on Ebay, I don’t know if it’s the real mccoy so won’t take the chance, but I wasn’t sure if you knew this.
I put Prologene gel everywhere, and even if I have a problem say with skin on my legs, I’ll put it there with my body lotion on top perhaps two or three times a day depending on the problem. I think everyone should have this.
    Annette from Scotland.
Love the beauty shows I’m addicted, my favourite make up since 1992 has been bobbi brown. My favourite skin care – is an easy one, I move around as we all do, but it is for me Decleor.

    Hi Alison,
On Monday sadly my youngest sister was bitten on the face by a dog, its quite nasty, lots of stitches, and a terrible shock.
She has been offered plastic surgery in the long term if she feels she needs it; I was wondering if Prologene Gel would help as I use it myself after listening to you talk about it, I remembered you said it may help scars, could you please tell me if it would be ok for her to use and if so when would be the best stage of the healing process to introduce it. My sister is 57 years old and has good skin, the damage is to her mouth and chin, I would really appreciate your advice, it is so upsetting but I just thought this may be some positive action to concentrate on.
    Thanks Alison.
