Mamma Mia 2: here we went again and early bird links

0

What an amazing film! I have to recommend it. See my review of the week below. And what a lovely afternoon out with some of my best friends in Devon. Plus – The new Liz Earle Today’s Special Value on Saturday – cannot wait!

Baby shower and leaving party

Well my daughter is off to Wales in August to live, so her kids, my grandchildren, will have a Welsh upbringing! She and her lovely hubby Nick had their leaving do/baby shower last weekend and many of the family came along. We played some fun games – baby bingo, pin the dummy on the baby poster, baby-activities-charades, and how well do you know the mother? A good time was had by all and I am very proud of my girl. Nick made one of his incredible carrot cakes again, only this time with a marzipan baby on the top – complete with tiny umbilical cord… Ha ha ha. It was delicious – the cake I mean not the marzipan ‘bits’! Baby Blake Catherine was there again and I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon babysitting last Friday as well. I’m trying to do it as often as possible nowadays for obvious reasons – they grow up so fast, don’t they. Only another eight weeks to go and I will have a second grandbaby! #Exciting

YabbaDebbieDoooo

On my way to yoga last week I passed one of my ancestors! Lol. They do this strange scarecrow thing round here in Devon – innovative concoctions sat by their front gates for a special competition. Look who I passed on the local country roads! Yabadabadoo! #FredFlintstone

Bouquet of the week.

It’s beautiful, albeit petite, it’s beautifully formed… of one of the buddleia blooms from my garden together with some others – I have no idea what they are though! Do you? Go here to see our collection of fab plants on our website that come with a special money back guarantee for quality.

Spot the Hot Dogs

This week’s ‘spot the dog’ has both my poggies commandeering my new summer house! Okay you don’t have to look very hard but they are nearly the same colour as the floor! #Let’sShareSummer #FabulousWeather Glad they have been keeping cool inside on the cold 1600s floor as the heatwave continued, although not quite so hot in the South West – thank goodness!

Vionics Ahoy!

We do regular training sessions with our brands. Keith from Vionics is one of the most conscientious and brings a little preview for us to look at of a lot of different styles coming later in the year. And look – this coming week’s Today’s Special Value! See above for more info. Can you see some of the super new styles on the way this Autumn?

Facebook Post of the Week

Great news for lovers of our alternative shows on our sister channels. Last week the choice was me and Glenn with fashion, or Craig and beauty at 6pm on the beauty channel. You’d have seen the post about it on my Facebook page here if you’ve already ‘liked’ the page and you see all my updates). Well it looks like there are going to be even more live hours later in the year as everything is going so well on our sister channels. My favourite part is the big deals (see above). I have bought several in the last few weeks! In fact I bought loads of stuff in the last few weeks! Some of it is for my retreat down in Devon, but a lot is presents. And of course the odd fabulous bargain that I just could not let slip by, like this giant set from Molton Brown and for instance in the gardening show – including the Jennings small handed ratchet secateurs . Looking forward to this Saturday with another two hours of gardening with Richard Jackson midday until 2pm – join us!

Book of the Week

Talented author Joanna Cannon was fizzing this week – she announced that she is lucky enough to have been chosen as a Richard and Judy Book of the Month for her second novel ‘There’s Something About Elsie.’ I loved this book, and did not guess the twist. Do get it if you can, as well as her début novel ‘The Trouble with Goats and Sheep’ – which was a top-10 Sunday Times Book of the Year. Some great summer reading recommendations over on my book review page RiWISI on my website if you’re looking for new authors to read, as well as an interesting article about how to not to buy your books – from an author’s point of view, by my writing mentor, award-winning author Julie Cohen. It focusses on an interesting angle about books that you might not have thought about before – e.g. that even library lending does pay a flat fee. Julie’s books are great too btw.

Watch – Mamma Mia 2

Genius on the big screen for me this week! On Mondays in Okehampton, near where I live in Devon, the cinema has a brilliant offer to bring a friend for free. So along we all went – and I mean all — to see Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again. It was fabulous. 9/10, and I think I enjoyed the sequel even more than the first one. It’s half current, half flashback, explaining the early days of Meryl Streep’s character and the men in her life – and the funny, funny women. The way they cast the younger versions of the originals is genius. I loved the interplay of then and now, as it connected the dots from several open-ended questions in the first film. The songs were fantastic, and I must admit I needed a pack of tissues at one point. I have already arranged to go and see it again and I will definitely look out for the singalong version too! Highly recommended. Just give yourself over to the fact that it is camp, not highbrow and it’ll be thoroughly entertaining. My Devon posse enjoyed it very much, and we had a lovely gossip and a catch up in the tearoom cafe opposite the cinema beforehand. My kind of day off! Thanks to Nicola, Sheena, Linda, Caitlin, Sarah, Jules, and Caitlin’s mum Jane for coming. More soon!
