Low heels in high places

Picture the scenario – your favourite song comes on over the speakers, your excitement is palpable, you’re ready to bust a move… but then your heart sinks as you remember you’re wearing 3 inch heels and you’re not sure you can stand for very long much less shake your moneymaker. Sound familiar? It’s happened to the best of us!

Being the fashion forward bunch that we are, comfort is often sacrificed for style. But we say no more! It’s time to reclaim our freedom of movement and ditch the heels in favour of some seriously gorgeous flats. We’ve imagined three flat and fabulous alternatives for situations that are generally high-heels-only zones; a wedding, a night out and a work look. And we’ve thrown in one look for fun, just to show that you don’t have to stagger in stilletos to channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw.

A maxi dress with flats? Don’t panic, petite ladies. Wearing the same print head to toe is a proven trick to help the body look longer, so you can stand tall in these Clarks Grace Lily ballet flats. If you’re worried you won’t feel as ‘dressy’ as you would with that pair of heels, go all out on the accessories as a compromise. We love the co-ordinating silver tones of the Loverocks clutch and Butler & Wilson crystal headband. And of course the bold-coloured print on this maxi dress from Grace is just the icing on the cake.

Working it

Loafers are an absolute must-have for any flats collection. While they will look equally at home with rolled-up jeans at the weekend, they are also perfect for the workplace. These Vitaform velvet loafers with crystal embellishment look gorgeous with this demure flippy skirt from Kim & Co, a Label Lab semi-sheer top, and finished off with a gold-tone Roberto by RFM pendant.

Hitting the town

Clarks have you covered for dancing shoes with these gorgeous Taylor T-bar sandals. Their retro style and cut-out detail makes us want to boogie the night away. While they would also look gorgeous with a classic shift dress, we love the idea of teaming them with these patterned Nina Leonard trousers with a pop of colour and texture from this lace Marble top. We thought adding some sparkle would be appropriate, choosing pieces that picked up the warm tone of the top with this cute bow-design ring from Diamonique and dangling earrings featuring morganite stones.

Have fun with it

Clashing prints create a gorgeous look when paired with some simple accessories. You don’t need high heels to do a high fashion look as this ensemble proves. Starting with some leopard-print trainers from Vionic, we added  this pretty fit and flare polka dot-print Ronni Nicole dress. A neutral-toned Danielle Nicole handbag with gold-tone hardware and a cut-out gold cuff are the perfect accessories to complement this fun style.
