Looking back and new obsessions

We had a joint celebration in our house since my last blog – my hubby’s birthday and our 24th wedding anniversary. One year until the big silver, which astounds me. As a child I thought people celebrating silver wedding anniversaries were ANCIENT, and now here I am on the brink of celebrating my own. Where have the years gone?

Anyway, we decided to spend the weekend in London (a bit of a busman’s holiday for me, as it’s where I work,  but I still enjoy being a tourist here now and again!) and had a lovely time. The sun shone a bit, and we wandered around, did a bit of window shopping (including looking at sofas for our new house, which we hope to be moving into later this year) and ate lunch and dinner at a sequence of lovely restaurants including Indian, Korean and Mexican! Hubby even got a little birthday “cake”, which was lovely.

I also had a nice surprise in my dressing room when I came back to work…the lovely people at Philip Kingsley gave all the presenters biscuits shaped like their famous Elasticizer to celebrate their Beauty Pick of the Month, the new (and divine) limited edition Pomegranate and Cassis version. It’s a one-litre size for a crazy price and is the most incredible pre-shampoo conditioning treatment so do give it a go. Sorry, you can’t have a biscuit though – but I can assure you they were very yummy too!

As I mentioned we (hopefully, if all goes to plan with the house sale/purchase!) will be moving house in the next couple of months, probably November. I’ve already started sorting through our stuff and doing a bit of a clear out and I came across some old photo albums so thought I’d share a couple of pictures with you.

Old pics

The first is me at one year old, clutching on to my pram and looking very “Sixties baby”! And then one from my university years, with one of my endlessly changing wacky hairstyles. That coat was an old one of my mum’s from the fifties and I decided to dye my hair black and orange to match it… looks like I also matched my eye make-up too, oh dear…nostalgia!

Talking of make-up, did you catch the premiere shows of new brand to QVC, Nude by Nature? It’s huge in Australia and I think it might be my new make-up obsession. It’s made from 100% natural ingredients and is cruelty free. The foundation is just amazing, great coverage but barely detectable on the skin, and I love the lip colours too. Do have a look at the collection online.

And talking about obsessions, I’ve spoken on-air numerous times about retinol skincare products and how they have transformed my skin since I started using them earlier this year. My night-time regime will forever now include some retinol and I’ve used products from numerous QVC  brands including Murad, M. Asam and Judith Williams.

Judith Williams

So I was thrilled to see that on Wednesday 26th there’ll be a Judith Williams Today’s Special Value offer of a four-piece retinol science collection. It consists of a day cream, night cream, eye cream and serum and, very excitingly, a couple of samples from her new Royal Collagen range launching soon. I love Judith and her products so I can’t wait to work with her on the day.

Love Jackie x

Loving the pics, Jackie. Aww what a cute photo of you clutching the pram!! When I’m clearing out and come across old photos I usually end up looking at them for hours just reminiscing and of course no real clearing out gets done!ha! Time just seems to fly by. Belated birthday wishes to your husband and belated Anniversary wishes to you both. x

Will Judith be telling us how much retinol is in the products this time, I wonder! PS as an 80s child who also had hair all colours of the rainbow (although the purple/blue which was the colour of the Quality Street Purple One was my favourite) I think you were ROCKING black and orange! Fx

Haha, thanks Shemag! I’m amazed I still HAVE hair with all the abuse I’ve given it over the years! Fun though.

Think we grew up similar times … The baby photo is so cute, something very endearing about the black and white photos. Captures a real feel of the time. All happening in the Kabler household !! it’s not dull for sure! Good luck with the move. x

Yes I do like the black and white pictures. And you’re right, life is certainly not dull at the moment. I need a lie down just thinking about it! Thanks Janet.

Hi Jackie sorry to trouble you. Could you tell me the label of the olive top you were wearing? Cheers Jan

Hi Janice…I’m sorry I don’t know which top you mean! Can you be more specific, eg what show and what day? I’ll try to help if I can but I’m away for a week or so at the moment.

Aww…..your current house and garden always looked sooo nice, Jackie! Are you downsizing? And where will you be moving – staying in Gloucestershire? We’ve got a move coming up ourselves, hopefully next spring/summer, to ….Galway! Am very excited as I have always wanted to return since the day I left (I am American but went to uni there) but I DREAD the clear out. Its amazing (and terrifying) how much “stuff” you can accumulate in 23 years….and I am finding it hard to part with any of it even though I don’t want to take it with us either! YUCK but I just know it will be worth it in the end…..

      Hi Eileen
We’ve been living in the country and want to move back to town – we are townies at heart! But yes, staying in Gloucestershire. I love Galway, my niece went to uni there too. I know what you mean about “stuff” – I think of myself as quite minimalist but I’m still having to do a big clear out! Good luck with your move. It will definitely be worth it!
