Looking back on 19 years at QVC

My goodness, doesn’t time fly! It’s 19 years since we first started our Richard Jackson’s Garden shows on QVC. We can’t let an occasion like that pass without doing something special so, to celebrate, we’ve a series of special anniversary shows this week  (Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th April at 14.00, 15.00, 22.00 and 23.00) with some cracking offers including my weedkiller with battery power sprayer!

As I’ve been preparing for the shows, it’s reminded me how much our shows have changed over the years. When we launched, we were simply selling a limited range of garden tools and sundries including forks, spades and gloves. Solar power was in its infancy while the cordless garden tools required huge, heavy and not especially powerful batteries.

Technology then moved on rapidly and QVC has always been at the forefront of new developments, so we quickly became the place to launch the latest products.

The biggest change came when we linked up with Thompson & Morgan and began selling plants. I can remember the excitement when we had our very first plant Today’s Special Value which sold out incredibly quickly. As we developed the range of plants, and introduced more suppliers like Hayloft Plants, we began to visit the trial grounds and film the plants during the summer. So the following spring, when discussing the plants on air, we played short videos showing why our varieties of plants were so special.

In the first few years, most of the big brands in gardening were wary of selling their products on QVC, but now QVC is such an important market in gardening that they’re queuing up to join us! And such is QVC’s buying power that they are happy to guarantee QVC customers get a better deal than anywhere else.

Another huge advantage is our 30 day money back guarantee. Imagine popping into a garden centre or DIY store to ask if you can try a lawn mower, pressure washer or lounger for 30 days to see what you think of it!

Another milestone for me over the past 19 years has been the introduction of my Flower Power Plant Food (10 years ago!) and then, encouraged by our viewers, I’ve gradually introduced more professionally formulated products including Lawn Magic, Compost and Rootbooster.

As I hinted earlier, we’ll be celebrating our 19th anniversary with some special promotions on some of my products and, of course, Flower Power will feature too. I’m very proud that it has been chosen as QVC’s Gardening Product of the Month and it’s an incredible offer, a 1.15kg tub of Flower Power for under £20, and free P&P too. It’s such a good offer, that we’re offering an Auto Delivery option too so you can get a second delivery 60 days later for the same price.

So, there’s lots to celebrate and I’d be delighted if you can join us for these special shows.

Happy gardening,

Hi Richard, love watching your shows especially at this time of year as they’re so inspiring to go out and get the garden looking fabulous.
Having 4 rescue dogs I am always very careful about having pet friendly plants in the garden and have missed out on many plants you’ve showcased due to googling whether they are poisonous or not to pets.
Therefore, how about a few Pet Friendly Plant Shows for all those viewers with family pets.
    Many thanks
