Fresh back from our annual camping trip, I’m ready to face August and all it has in store for us! I absolutely love having the children off of school… and not just because there’s no early morning alarm, although that is most definitely a bonus!!! We have a packed schedule ahead of us with loads to squeeze in, so bring it on! Saying that, we are all exhausted by the end of an academic year and so traditionally, we take off for a week and head south for our favourite spot of peace and family time on the Isle of Wight.
This year we had a new tent that had HEAPS of room inside, perfect for the rainy days as and when they come, which they so often do, particularly when we go camping!! We upgraded to an inflatable one that was soooo easy to put up and even had a side entrance, which was perfect as the children tend to stay out much later. So, I snuggle up in my sleeping bag with a hot water bottle and a book while they charge about with their friends – it’s the perfect holiday! As always, we take guiding lights so they can find their way home, this year I took these lamps from Luxform with me, which worked a treat.
We were only there for six days so we didn’t do a huge amount. We tend to chill out and not be too adventurous. Although saying that, if you follow me on Instagram, you will know full well that we still managed to pull a load of excitement out of the bag regardless!
Toward the end of the week, I decided some calm was in order, so off we went to a Benedictine abbey (you should have seen the children’s faces when I told them that was what we were doing!) It was very peaceful, we walked around the grounds, sat in the abbey, and visited the pigs as they run a small holding too, they were super cute!! It reminded me of my very first job when I was just 10 years old, I spent the summer holidays of 1983 on a pig farm looking after the farmer’s toddler. I earned enough to buy myself my first tape recorder, and as an avid music lover, the smell (of the pigs, not the baby) was well worth it! I managed to save £36 and handed over the hard earned cash with huge delight, I treasured it for years.
Finally, with all of the summer holiday shenanigans now in full swing, Brian and I managed to sneak off for a few hours in Oxford and have a little mooch around the city and the covered market that we adore! The food in there is amazing!! So here I am at one of the entrances and before you ask, yes, I’m wearing THE coveted Skechers trainers of the season and one of my many MarlaWynne tunic tops – hooray, she’s bringing another one as a Today’s Special Value this weekend for our Autumn Fashion event, so make sure you tune in!
I’m off now to watch the finale of Stranger Things season two – it’s beyond weird, but I promised Beely I’d watch all three seasons over the summer with her. She says I’m a useless binge watcher though, I get ants in my pants after three episodes, I can’t do more than that in any given sitting – I think you have to be under 25 to be able to!!
Have a fabulous summer and I look forward to catching up with you somewhere!
Much love as always,
