What a palaver it was this week during the Amazon Fire TSV show when my ‘telly hubby’, Lee Hohbein revealed he had a split where the sun doesn’t shine right under his crotch! Fortunately, it merely provided a bit of extra ventilation but after the show finished he finished the job then tweeted about it! Funny!
I do love being on with Lee he’s such fun! By the way here is a little heads up about his one time only next Thursday, these brilliant B&O headphones! Don’t miss it, he is very excited about it and I think they will sell out very quickly 🙂 . Go to the bottom of my blog for a big look ahead to next weeks deals, as usual.
Emergency takeover! At the end of last week, another drama, and a proper one! I had just done the Dyson rehearsal, waiting for the midnight launch, when poor Alison Young was taken ill and I was asked with six minutes notice if I could do her 11pm beauty hour as well! Fortunately, it was products I knew well and was able to step in. As you may know, Alison recovered quite quickly, she told me, with a little bit of medicine, antihistamines etc. She was well enough for her trip to the Isle of Wight with Will. Go to Alison’s blog from Saturday, to see her news about the brand-new Liz Earle shampoos and more.
Coffee with the Rellies. I do love staying with my brother and his girls when I am down in London for my weekend shifts at QVC. Isabella made me laugh last week when she said that she did not want her regular as she had had enough sugar! Her regular is a sweet hot chocolate with cream! She knows her body, does Isabella, in fact, she is quite a natural freedom eater (see TTFLS below.) By the way, check out Chris Edwards comments below from my Till the Fat Lady Slims book series and online group. It’s so nice to know the principles are working so well.
Lightning very frightening!. There were a lot of storms last week! My poor Woofers kept going out to the yard barking at the distant thunder. Fortunately, it was quite a way off. If you look at this chart, Retreats for You in Sheepwash is around about where the blue circle is, and the red dots are where the thunder was. My friend Alix was right in the middle of it but we were a good half an hour away. Did you have anywhere you are?
Netball in focus. Fortunately, rain did not stop play for another bout of netball. Sadly my ankle still hurts me and I had to sit out the last five minutes. But I will get there by hook or by crook. Or should I say old crock! Ha ha
Daring Debbie That wouldn’t stop me though, attempting new things. Look at this, the highest zip wire slide in London, wouldn’t you love to go on it? I know I would. I will have to look into it. It would be lovely to add to my Try it For The First Time Club list 🙂 (TiFFT* not featured one for ages, but have been doing loads! Next week, I’m trying an electric bike, that’s a TiFFT for sure!)
Gastro Scotch Eggs but where? We are often talking about our delicious meals down in Retreats for You in Devon, where the writers get forward whilst they create their masterpieces. Well this was one from our QVC cafe! A Gastro scotch egg, where the sausage meat around the egg had herbs in and tasted delicious. Have you got any unusual scotch egg recipes?
Gorilla thriller. Read this with interest this week. So it seems DNA studies show we are closer to gorillas than we thought. (Thinks some of us are closer than others!!) Anyway this latest genome sequence confirms that just 1.6 percent of their genes diverge from our own. For reference, chimps and bonobos tie, at 1.2 percent divergence, and after gorillas, there’s a sharp drop-off to 3.1 percent in orangutans, great apes with Asian instead of African origins. The genomes of individual humans differ from one another by around 0.1 percent.
An announcement! As usual, my official Facebook page had some video blogs “ vlogs“ which are building up quite a cult following now, or so I am told. Here is one of them, on a fab sunny day featuring a very important announcement, about helping Medical Detection Dogs my charity for which I am an ambassador. Some absolutely brilliant options this time!. If you would like to follow these announcements, make sure you like the page, and if you are not on social media you can still read them.
Singing! You can also see some of them on my regular weekly Debbie Flint newsletter. If you sign up on my website Debbie Flint.com, you will go on the list to get the emails with the updates. This week’s one has more about the latest goings on in Devon, and the mega raffle is back, plus a reminder of how to come see me sing in Devon in September, then tea at the guest house the day afterwards on Sunday 17th? Here’s a sample from the last one.
An amazing book you must read it this summer! Every so often a book comes along that makes me want to rave about it and tell everyone and shout it from the rooftops. Well this week’s Book of the Week is just that – on my ‘Read it Write it Sell it’ blog (RiWiSi) it’s The Summer of Impossible Things by Rowan Coleman. I have enjoyed every minute of this time travel story, with a series of alternate realities. Since my favourite films are Groundhog Day, Frequency, and About Time etc, this was right up my street. Do go there to read more about it and well done to Rowan for such an amazing book. People are already putting mostly five-star reviews online. There is a way you can get the audiobook free as well, more info here.
My Weekly, a short story by Julie Cohen Another example of amazing writing my lovely mentor Julie Cohen was featured in My Weekly this week, with a fabulous short story. Get it if you can. Her book ˜Together’ is also brilliant and I can’t wait for the audiobook to come out middle of August. I’m not surprised her tutored retreat at our guest house at the end of September sold out really early, I think she has had one cancellation but that will go really fast. She is a brilliant writer and a skilled mentor, the master of show not tell. More here.
Facebook funny, thought this was hilarious on Twitter this week. I wonder who put it there!
Watch this week’s film has to be the new release in the cinema, Dunkirk. But I haven’t seen it yet! I will aim to go see it next week when I am off (for the week and part of the week after – squee!)
Finally a proper break without actually having to go anywhere or do anything 🙂 I have been looking forward to this for ages. There will be a bit more updating going on, painting walls and so on. I will also get out and about on that new electric bike. But considering one of the biggest transformations has been the kitchen, and people have been asking me about it all, and I have been talking about the new induction hob, do take this tour behind the scenes at Retreats For You and all the stuff in the kitchen.
Spot the Cook’s Essentials air fryer, the Smeg toaster and kettle, The KitchenAid mixer (which cynic and non-gadget person, Wendy loves and says works like nothing else to whisk up egg whites for Eton Mess meringues!) plus the Ninja mixer, the Easiyo yogurt maker, the Kuhn Rikon products, and if you have not got one already we do a brilliant Induction Hob. So you can see what it is like. You just have to have a magnetic saucepan and it will work. Anyway, here’s the little kitchen video, if you’d like to look around.
And if you are in the vicinity of Devon mid-September, do come along and you may well be able to pop in for a cuppa and see it from the Dining Room! On the day after my concert we will be hopefully running another vintage tea rooms pop-up shop, opening the doors to help raise funds for medical detection dogs. More here

Boxing Clever in Diamonique Month How exciting in Diamonique month to unveil the brand new Diamonique packaging!
What a beautiful blush pink color, looks amazing as a gift, don’t you think? This replaces the old blue packaging. Looking forward to showing this on-air. PS people have been enquiring about my necklace which I usually wear, which was a present from the kids actually. And it is the Diamonique bee. There is a brooch, a ring, and little stud earrings to match, there is also a different one by Tova.
I will not be back on-air until Thursday, 3rd August launching with a new Sony camera, but join me next week on this blog for what happened when I took out the new electric bike for the first time down in Devon 🙂 Plus a proper tourist blog from my week sightseeing during my annual leave.
PS congratulations to Jacqueline Webber, my randomly selected winner of last week’s AD Skin Synergy competition.
