One of the most memorable events of this year happened last weekend, when I spent time in Wales for my daughter Lauren’s 30th birthday. My sister and niece also stayed at the most wonderful bed and breakfast in Llandysul, in south-west Wales. It had a hot tub big enough for 11 people! Plus delicious breakfast, all home-cooked at Dol Llan Mansion, and we also had a wonderful bathroom, and very special hosts Katie and Andy (they appeared on Four in a Bed, the reality show, early on.) And another ‘TiFFT!’ (try it for the first time). They had a little parrot and it flew onto my shoulder! Pretty polly!
Lauren and Nick celebrated a joint 30th, and decorated their massive barn in a fun Mexican theme. Quite a lot of family came, and Nick then made one of his masterpiece carrot cakes with gigantic candles and sparklers! Then we had a long countryside walk, when the sun shone and was really quite hot! A great time was had by everybody.
I can’t believe my little girl is 30! So now, I’m so old I don’t even have any children in their 20s, ha ha. She likes the duck egg coloured jumper I got her, but since her birthday is not till the beginning of September, that’s when I will visit again. I do love Wales, but it did pour down on the Friday, it took me seven hours – seven! – to get from North Devon all the way across to the M4/M5 junction, then right away across to Carmarthen. But it’s always worth it to see the grandbabies, who I spent lots of time with. Little Blake, now 18-months-old, explored the ball pit, and beautiful baby Phoebe, started clapping for the first time. Special days.
Unusually for me, last week I also acted like a tourist and made like a tourist with my lovely pal Sheena. We went to Docton Mill in Devon and had the De Rigeur afternoon tea, and had a tour of the pretty gardens taking Daisy dog with us. Took this funny picture on the stone toadstools. It was another beautiful day, fortunately! Events in Wales and Devon are all very weather dependent, of course. So I’m glad I’m getting as much as possible in this year, in between coming backwards and forwards to London for work at QVC 🙂 Helped now by my new car… if you saw the debate on social media about what to choose, I actually ended up with a Kia Sportage. Main reason? It is a mild hybrid, my first car that uses electric battery in traffic. The way of the future 🙂
It’s a very special Bank Holiday, with events right the way through till Monday the 26th.
If you read this blog on the Friday, also join me at 9pm for the pre-launch of Saturday’s deal from the LAB Life and Beauty girls. This time focusing on the chin and neck, it’s a special lifting device with two masks, at an even more incredible price compared to the usual offers. I’m always really impressed with their technology. This one I know will be a really hot seller, and our 9pm shows have been outstanding. Plus 9pm on Fridays is usually beauty, so definitely join us if you can 🙂 or it is on during Saturday.
Sunday – there is another very clever product, this time the return of Shark, with the Duoclean Liftaway corded vac, with pet hair and no-tangle technology. It kind of combines an upright with a cylinder, and has a separate hose setting, you can get everywhere with this one! Shark are really rivaling the best, and they are only a few hundred pounds, rather than extortionate prices.

Who’s that girl?
This made me laugh this week… Talking about my girl turning 30, well here is me aged just 24. I thought this was quite funny, it came from @80s_kidz on Twitter! It said “Remember watching CBBC weekday with these guys (don’t remember who the female presenter was though)”. Someone tagged me in it and he was surprised at my response! Others were surprised that this was one of my first jobs in television! Well regulars will know this, but if you didn’t, here is the proof 🙂 First girl in the BBC Children’s TV broom cupboard. Complete with 80s hair and fashion ha ha! Funniest thing was a viewer had done me a name plate so it said who I was in the front of the picture ha ha!
Spot the book character who watches QVC!
This week’s book of the week is ‘After the End’, by Clare Mackintosh. Actually, it is quite a dark tale, lots of drama, following the emotional rollercoaster of parents with a desperately sick child and their fight to keep him alive, and also with each other, testing their relationship to the fullest. Quite a departure for me. The audiobook is really well narrated! The mother of one of the main characters loves QVC, and doesn’t just watch it once or twice, we get a mention several times throughout! It is an integral part of that character’s story 🙂 Tickled me no end. Have you seen or read any books or shows that mention us? Anyway, it is highly recommended.
Lovely Keith, the guest from Vionic shoes, gave us some more training this week about the new designs coming through. I now practically live in Vionic shoes, especially when I’m on my feet for over 10,000 steps every day when I’m in Devon. The built-in orthotics make such a difference. Go here to check out the range, in particular I love these toe-post sandals that I have been wearing a lot on air as well 🙂 great innovation and so good for my joints 🙂
Watch – Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a Quentin Tarantino film.
Saw this at the cinema this week, and I did enjoy it, mainly as a period timepiece, and for superb performances, including from Leonardo DiCaprio, playing a jaded TV cowboy who lives in Hollywood about the time of the Charles Manson murders in the late 60s. Brad Pitt plays the pivotal character as they reinvent what might have happened if the killers went next door. But that’s just towards the end of the film, and most of the movie is the story of Brad, the stuntman for Leonardo’s fallen star. The bromance is great, as are some funny set pieces, like the fight with ‘Bruce Lee’… Worth watching unless you hate violence. I’m not usually a Quentin Tarantino fan, and although too long, I enjoyed this one. 8 out of 10.
Vlog of the week
Go here to see more from the day out in Devon, and some beautiful gardens, not just stone toadstools!
Live TV means trying to control the giggles when they hit!

Unusually, I am also in on Monday and will be appearing on Style and on the 7pm show. Then I’m off back down to Devon! Actually my schedule will change in September and hopefully helping me to see my granddaughter in London a bit more, I will be doing Friday to Monday rather than Thursday to Sunday. Happy days 🙂
Tuesday – Joules return with the coast mid waterproof cotton canvas coat, check out for the early bird order link here!
Wednesday – fab nails from Orly – the seven-piece Wild Thing collection with a lovely bag. Again this goes on sale early in the week.
