Laundry outerwear returns – find out more about the range

Laundry Rain Cotton Blended Trench - 107158Laundry outerwear returns to QVC today 20th February with a great new collection. This super stylish outerwear range has proven to be very popular and has quite a following internationally. We had a chat with our Laundry guest for QVC, Svetlana Sturgeon to find out more about the brand and outerwear trends for 2013…

Tell us more about the Laundry brand
The Laundry brand was launched in 1988 and Shelli Segal joined the company as the design director and became part of the label. Laundry by Shelli Segal is a leader in the contemporary sportswear and dress business, retailing at Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Dillards, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s.

Laundry guest Svetlana SturgeonThe Laundry brand is all about elegance and sophistication. Our customer prefers figure-flattering shapes that are flirty, with sexy silhouettes. She is a fashion customer and fashion is a priority in her life. She dresses for a creative career and work environment. Our outerwear has a fit that is contemporary, quality that is exceptional and we use innovative fabrics with special attention to details and trims.

Tell us how more about yourself?
I have spent the last 25 years in the fashion business, and I have been associated with the Laundry brand for close to 10 years. I sold the dresses and sportswear at the previous company I was with and now I am The Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Levy Fashion Company which sells the Laundry coats.

Laundry Quilted Short Jacket - 107154What are some of your favourites from the collection and why?
I LOVE the quilted motorcycle jacket!! The motorcycle trend is so fashionable right now and our coat looks amazing. It's a tailored fit so it fits beautifully- very figure flattering. The quilting detail is exceptional with a zigzag diamond quilt pattern. I love the asymmetrical zipper and the silver hardware.

Another favourite is the System Jacket (below left) due to its fashionable style and versatility. It has a quilted vest that can be worn inside the coat or on the outside. The fabric has a pearl finish so it has a beautiful iridescent sheen and there are little rhinestone details on the chest pockets. The coat is water resistant and has a hood, it's also great value!!

Another top pick is the packable raincoat (below right). I love the Electra Blue colour, the jewel tones are so on-trend right this season and colour is everywhere, and this colour is so beautiful and rich. The fabric is windbreaker so it is a beefier fabric, really gutsy so it keeps the wind and rain out and keeps me warm and dry. The bottom is what we call a 'bubble bottom' so when you have the coat on it looks like a skirt, very pretty and very feminine.

Laundry Cotton Blend Shine Jacket - 107159What are the trends and fashions that you love?
Colour is so important; I love the explosion of jewel tones these days. The whole motorcycle influence happening in sportswear and coats is also very cool and chic. I also like the slimming look created for the wearer by the new longer length coats which sit mid-thigh.

Layered dressing continues to be strong and allows us to be ready for whatever weather we are faced with. That is especially why I like the new “packable rainwear” that comes in its own carry bag that you can drop in your handbag and which weighs nothing at all.

I also absolutely adore the new high/low trend in coats – shorter in front and longer in the back, with quite often a dovetail back. This style is very figure-flattering and very fashionable.

Why would a fashion brand be called Laundry? It does not sound very appealing.

I remember having a jacket with an asymmetrical zip fastening in the 60’s. My mother was a seamstress and she made one for me and my friend. They say fashion comes in circles and in this instance it is obviously true!

Where could I purchase the scarf worn on todays 5.30p.m. show worn by the model with the Drip Drop Coat? It looked so good with the coat I would love to purchase one of these scarves.
