An LA lunch with Rob Locke, and two QVC firsts

Debbie wearing her Red Carpet manicureTONIGHT! Red Carpet Manicure time! Just before part two of my holiday update from sunny Santa Monica, I'm kicking off with a red alert!

The new long lasting, instant dry gel manicure system is finally here – it's on imminently – watch tonight (from Thursday 28th at midnight and through Friday 29th – as long as it lasts!) and good luck to my lovely sister Linda who's the guest – she's a nail technician and thinks this is the best system for people who have weak nails and don't get on well with varnish. Or who love gel systems like this (they're all the rage) but pay a fortune for each set.

And as I've said on Facebook, it's really amazingly transformed my own nails over the last few months – they grow up underneath the hard gel coating, and believe me, it lasts and lasts and stays looking like new.

Big advantages – I spend a fraction of the time re-doing them, I feel much better about how my hands look all week long, and it makes me pick at my cuticles less – bonus! Also just so you know, you can use normal varnish over the top, eg. to cover the regrowth gap at the bottom in the 3rd/4th week – and even THAT lasts amazingly well compared to when I don't have the gel armour plating on! Check online for other Red Carpet items and get a head start!

Family party
Debbie and LindaThis is my lovely sis, at the sweet little family get together my nephew Ricky, her son, had at his new house last weekend, for niece Izzy, who was 3 this week!

Made a change for everyone to be at someone else's house and it helped me settle back in to the UK after arriving back in on Saturday lunchtime from LA. Still avoided the non-macrobiotic 'goodies' tho – and no major weight gain after the hol! Yay! Debbie's family get together (see next week's comp if you want to know how!)

Snippet – trending on Facebook – check out a fun new pop video doing the rounds, for hot new UK group 'Slow Club', featuring one of their biggest fans, none other than Daniel Radcliffe himself – who is seen here acting drunk! All in one take – fab work from clever young Brit director Lucy Needs – well done that girl!

L.A. holiday – part two
Debbie at the Tudor House tearooms in Santa MonicaOne of my fave lunches was at the famous Tudor House British tea rooms in Santa Monica – sadly they had notices on all the tables saying they're about to close in July due to the economic climate. So we went a second time. Shame – nice place and a little taste of home for the local ex-pats!

Rob Locke update
And finally from my LA hol – that clip I promised you of ex-QVC presenter Rob Locke! He and I had a nice lunch and he told me more about what he's doing, now he's living and working out there with his lovely wife and 9 year old son David. Loves it! Bless him!

WATCH – when I was in LA, Mr Back-of-my-Tandem and I nipped along to see 'Snow White and the Huntsman' – a must-watch for any Charlize Theron fans out there. To find out more about why she steals the film away, just go to YouTube and search 'Snow White and The Huntsman trailer' or go here.

As designer Antthony said when I met him for lunch in LA, the costumes are fantastic. Plus the sets are amazing and the seven dwarves bring the comedy, including some of our own biggest stars like Bob Hoskins. The accents aren't bad and the acting's good enough. BUT some MAJOR plot holes made it lose points, as did too many 'that doesn't make sense' moments (like the Queen suddenly appearing in the forest for the all important apple scene, when she'd earlier said she was forbidden from going there). So it gets a 7.25 out of ten from me. What did you think?

Bose QC15 QuietComfort Acoustic Noise Cancelling HeadphonesQVC Part 1 – This Week I Are Been Mostly using the amaaaaazing noise cancelling headphones from Bose – OH MY GOD – what a difference they made on the plane! A ten-hour flight with the heavy droning sound of the cabin noise – and the crying baby a few rows away when I was trying to sleep – was made far more bearable!

Give them a go if you're going long haul this summer. And at home if it's noisy too – wish I'd had them when the kids were small! Or when I was small – as one of five it was pretty noisy in my household growing up! With these over ear cushioned classy headphones, it blocks out outside noise almost completely! Highly recommended!

QVC Part 2 – what more can I say – history in the making this weekend – July 1st is Super Sunday. For the very first time there are  29 – yes, 29 – Today's Special Value's in one day! I'll be on late evening (at midnight Sunday I'll then launch the new Monday TSV too – a brand new Instyler in 'All About Hairstyling'.)

Meanwhile, here's an insight to the big event, including Will Gowing's chat with new guest, Bruno Tonioli! Cosmetics, big brand technology, jewellery and much more – all this Sunday, 1st July!

That's it for this week – except to say that next week's blog will have that long-awaited competition to win a fabulous prize worth over £100 – if you  need to lose weight or have health concerns that may be diet related.

Have a great week and don't forget to leave me a comment below – where are YOU going on holiday this year? What do you LOVE about Red Carpet Nails? And what did you think of Super Sunday – when you've watched it!

    Hi Debs
    I love reading your blogs
will be watching at midnight. I’m sure your sister will be great
Holiday for me this year isn’t until October. Touchwood etc off to Australia for my big birthday. 1962 was such a good year! Hopefully on the big day itself we will be up the centre point tower which is a revolving restaurant in Sydney with 360 degree views of the fabulous city ——–can’t wait.
    lots of love

That was so nice Debs-to see and hear Rob Locke again. He always has such a happy, sincere look in his eyes, and yes, he has kept his accent very well. He looks well and very distinguished. Thanks for that—you are so good at keeping in touch with people-it shows you have a caring nature and it takes a lot of effort to keep in touch with people who have moved away from work, or on to another part of the world, rather than thinking ‘out of sight-out of mind’.Isn’t it good to see that Daniel Radcliffe has become such a lovely and adaptable young man? He is not ‘Harry Potter’ any more—thank goodness-(not a huge fan of the Potter stories), but loved ‘Woman in black’-I will be watching the nail programme-don’t partake myself-my nails feel hot and weak with varnish etc-but LOVE watching the technicians applying nail products. Thanks again. Love K.XXX

What a surprise to see Rob Locke I often wondered what had happened to him and pleased to hear he is doing well in the USA. Thank you Debbie for your lovely blogs which I enjoy reading. Loved your hair at midnight last and enjoyed Super Sunday. You may be interested to know I have just bought a new puppy a black poodle (I know you have dogs) and what mischief he gets into, this is our 5th dog and probably our last as we are getting on (OAPs) but we missed our other little dog a yorkie who died at 16 just before Christmas. Keep up the good work Diana

    Hi Debs and Rob
You sound as though you have had a fab time in LA and your blogs are really good. It was lovely to see Rob Locke with you he hasn’t really changed a lot except for the rug that he has on his face, I don’t really like facial hair but it really really suits him. I am glad to hear that he now has a family and is settled in the U.S. but must say a lot of people including me miss him at QVC but I don’t really blame him and he looks really really happy and that is what counts. Take care Rob and if you are ever in England pop in to QVC so that we can see you. Take care. Best Wishes Janet

I get so frustrated because I can’t buy bangles, not even on high street. Could you ask if they would consider making larger bangles as i can’t get them over my fist

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for all your kind comments. I’m extremely flattered to be remembered after all this time!
I think about my incredible years at QVC almost every day. It was one of the best experiences of my life – a truly wonderful team of people whom I’ll never forget.
It was brilliant to see Debbie in LA. We had about 10 years of news to catch up on, so I think I talked more at that lunch than I did during my entire time on the QVC airwaves!
Thanks again to Debs, to everyone at QVC, and to all of you who welcomed me into your homes on a regular basis (via the television, of course!).
    Kindest and fondest regards,

A little late reading this blog but thoroughly enjoyed it, always like to read you news, evenif I don’t write. It was so nice to see Rob Locke after all this time, so pleased he is doing well and has a lovely family, we missed him from the QVC family for a long time, but so lovely for him to have one of his own, He does look well and I think he will be quite sexy as a Russian in his new role.
Next time can you go to Miami and catch up with AnthonHeyward and how about Kara and the lovely Katie Johns.
    Take care

H Sylivia – so glad you enjoyed the little catch up with Rob – of all the people mentioned to me when I first came back to QVC three years ago, Rob’s name was one that kept coming up, along with Paul Lavers. So I was pleased to be able to catch up with him in LA recently! He’s very settled there now tho, with 9 year old son and wife, so doubt he’d want to return to rainy old england! You can find him on facebook tho if you’d like to talk direct!
    best wishes

Please, please, when presenting fashion could you slow down when giving sizes, you speak too quickly for me to catch the sizes. Also pleased to hear you met up with Rob Locke, you two were my favourite presenters in the early days.
    Kindest regards
