Well the torn cartilage op last Wednesday all went well. I’m now recuperating at home and will be back in on around Friday 30th November, all being well. In the meantime, see below for all the usual fun features of this blog – a recommendation for books and film, and super sneaky peeks of the week ahead!

Don’t Mention the Meniscus
When I was 16 I played netball and last year I played it again – around 40 years since the last time! No surprise then that I tore a tendon in my knee. Last week, when the doc went in to repair and ‘clean’ it, he found it had not just torn in front like the MRI showed, but also further back as well. So I’m hoping it’ll settle down now the op’s been done. It was a very comfortable room and I was v. happy to finally get a hot cup of tea after fasting and being allowed out of the recovery room. I was so cold though! I had to arrive at 7am and I was very grateful to my lovely friend Sheena for taking me and being a complete star on the day. Then later Linda came in, as did Mary and Barry popped by… I was well looked after even though far from family, down in Devon! Now to get back on my feet. See below for the link to the Facebook vlog where I tell you all about it! More next week…
Girls Christmas day out
Well it’s that time of year again isn’t it!? As I asked last week about what makes you know Christmas is in the air, I have to add that one of my signs is the annual day out with my female family – this time, mum, Linda sis, and sis-in-laws (well, ex sis-in-laws but they still count) Nicky and Alison – to Westfield. We peppered our day with lunch and coffee breaks, but still did around 10,000 steps! Managed to get some lovely clothes for Lauren for breastfeeding and for babies Blake and Phoebe. I’ve seen a super little rocking horse for Blake I’m hoping Brad will approve when we go out soon for his annual shopping trip!
Geller gang go for afternoon tea
What a lovely afternoon tea we had – along with Andie from the Geller team and Susie Adams my QVC pal. So many lovely ladies, all big fans of Geller cosmetics and it was super to put names to faces. The afternoon tea was very nice – albeit a bit dear – but the hotel was a good central choice and I managed to get there and then back to QVC easily! Hugs to everyone I met! The Laura Geller range is superb – check it out here on our website.
I also went to a dinner for business women called ‘Women 2 Win’ last week near Victoria and met Mark Harper the MP for Forest of Dean. I didn’t take any pics as I had to leave early to go to work, but managed to catch up with Alison Cork there before I left.
And don’t forget that all of your current purchases, ‘tll 2nd December, will count towards your voucher offer – details here – to get £15 or £25 to spend in the run up to Christmas!
Renovations with a medal winner
As previously mentioned, I am going ahead with the addition of en suite in a couple of the bedrooms down in Devon. Many guests said they would only book if they had their own bathroom, and whilst the writing retreat I run is kind of old school in a charming way and for many it works to have a shared bathroom, it’s a bit of a sticking point for others. Well a local firm found me a couple of days to fit the connections to the plumbing system ready for when my son in law Nick comes back down to Devon again (from Wales – boo) and it turns out that Tom Moys, son of David, founder and long-time Sheepwash resident, just won a national award! Best in England – wow! I was very proud when I found out and looking at his work in the upstairs bedroom so far, I can see why he won – so neat, and knowledgeable. There’s a lot of talk about the state of our apprentices’ systems here in the UK so this was heart warming to read. He told me all about it.
Apprentices were selected by their colleges across England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland and had to compete in regional heats in their countries first, and then the best eight students across the nations would go head to head in the skill plumb national final at the NEC Birmingham. Tom was the only one who made it from England. There were five Scottish lads and two Irish lads in the final as well. They competed for three days with only a working tolerance of +/- 1mm. Overall he was the second youngest competitor and won the bronze medal in an amazingly high standard competition. Well done Tom – Devon is proud of you!
Also managed to fit in a trip to Windsor for an amazing facial from Gatineau. Lovely Lucy – their regular trainer who helps Michaela with shows on air too – did my facial this time and OMG my skin was glowing when I got to work that night! They’re launching a brand new Perfection Ultime MASK soon to go with an early December big offer, and I thoroughly enjoyed the pampering! Could have stayed there all day if truth be known! Lol.
Managed to see Widows. Posted a report about it on Facebook – along these lines: I have to say I did enjoy it, although the original Dolly (Ann Mitchell) gave a much, much more commanding performance. Steve McQueen the film director created one too many loooong shots which slowed it down too much, but a good effort – albeit a bit violent. 7.5/10.
This week whilst recovering I’ve decided to watch some Christmas films instead – here’s the vlog on my official Facebook page where I talk about suggestions – and also explain all about the op! The first one I always watch each year is Groundhog Day. Plus Bridget Jones, Trading Places, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Then White Christmas (and the original, Holiday Inn) and Wonderful Life, of course. The Holiday is a more recent addition as is Love Actually (the Joni Mitchell song scene with Emma Thompson gets me every time.) But I am looking for some new ones. Which Christmas films should I watch do you think? I’ll report back on a vlog.
Don’t forget to follow the regular updates on my social media – links all below! Especially in the run up to Christmas and with so many key deals and early bird links, it’s worth it!
Book of the week
Well, books actually. I must just say a hearty well done to my friend and colleague Julia Roberts here at QVC. She has just managed to get herself a super book deal with an online publisher, Bookcouture. She’s just finished her fifth book which means she’s officially now written more standalone novels than me, although my online presence includes other anthologies and short stories, the girl’s done good! Jules’s new book will be a crime one too, so, just like Jackie, she’s changing genre to something grittier! Well done to my clever colleagues. Meanwhile, for me, back on book five, I’m still persevering and am aiming to get more done during rehab break for my knee!
Next week’s sneaky peeks
Apart from the huge Black Friday weekend 23rd – 26th, we have some super deals lined up next week…

Next week on the blog
Recovering at home in Devon and top author Julie Cohen returns for her next workshop! I’m really looking forward to not doing very much, basically, whilst the knee recovers! Have a fab week and do look out for the updates on social media whilst I’m away. See you on 30th.
