It’s time for tennis!

It feels like summer is well and truly upon us, and with it, the seasonal sport of tennis. Not only is it good fun to both watch and play (not to mention a great workout), it also goes oh-so-well with many of our favourite things – fabulous outfits, delicious food and drink, and gathering around with friends and family. What better excuse do you need?

With that in mind, take a look at our checklist for the ultimate enjoyment in summer tennis. Whether going to see it live, watching at home with friends or even giving it a go yourself, we’ve got suggestions on how to do it in style!

In the middle of the action

If you’re going to be in the thick of things, you’re going to need a good outfit. We love the traditional whites of course, but how about adding a contemporary twist with bright florals or a vibrant pattern? Complement the look with some wedge heels (chic but comfy is a must), and for a classic ensemble, we suggest coordinating your shoes and handbag.

Finish off whichever look you go for with the timeless tennis bracelet. Never is this gorgeous piece more appropriate, giving you a sophisticated flash of sparkle without being over the top, what it’s all about when watching the tennis!

Stay-at-home spectator

Well, first of all, you’re going to need to be able to actually watch it. Preferably on a decent-sized TV with incredible visuals, so you almost feel like you’re actually there. We love this Samsung Curved HD TV, it really makes you feel like you’re at the centre of the serving/drop shot/volleying action.

And, of course, whether it’s a casual afternoon or you’re throwing a soiree in celebration of the final, delicious sustenance is a must for tennis-viewing. Especially if someone happens to pop round ‘just by chance’ when you’re glued to the last set – shove some snacks under their nose to keep them happy until the crucial moment is over (great tip from us to you right there).

Treat them (and yourself) to some occasion-appropriate treats – we’re thinking a tasty cheese board with chutneys, strawberries and cream flavour popcorn, cute mini cakes, and how about some fancy salmon blinis?

Of course, the pièce de résistance is the classic Eton Mess. Strawberries, cream (or we like yoghurt as a healthy alternative) and meringues, and maybe some crushed shortbread or honeycomb for a slight twist? Yum.

If you’re a fan of all things green both on and off the tennis court, why not try growing your own strawberries ready for next year? Just think of the satisfaction or watching a great game while munching on your very own home-grown strawberries!

Working on that backhand

If you’ve been inspired to dust off your racket, here’s a few more bits and pieces you’ll want to consider. Like the outfit. Stand out on court with these vibrant sports leggings – we love them with a plain vest and bright cover-up – and make sure you’re ready to dash back to the baseline with some appropriate footwear.

If it’s fitness you’re looking to improve, keep tabs on your progress with a fitness tracker. We’re big fans of the Fitbit Charge 2, which as well as steps, heart rate and calories burned, can also track specific sports – perfect. And what about this gorgeous water bottle, in a summer and tennis-appropriate mint green. Perfect for staying hydrated in between rallies, no?

Whichever way you’re getting involved in sport this summer – enjoy!
