It really has been a great and busy week at the Q, but then again it always is.
The weekend was great fun as we had our garden relief campaign. Two hour gardening shows on Saturday and Sunday where every order raised £1.50 for Green Fingers, a charity that aims to build gardens and outside spaces for children who are in hospices. It’s something that Richard Jackson has been involved with since the very beginning and is very passionate about, and some of that passion has definitely rubbed off on the QVC crew.
We really enjoy doing the show because we know that the more plants people buy the more money will be raised for Green Fingers! A really big thank you should go out to all of our vendors. People like David from Hayloft Plants, Ken from Plants2Gardens, Rupert from Mont Rose, George from de Jager, Thompson & Morgan, and Suttons, as they were the ones who donated the £1.50 for each order.
We hoped to raise £25,000 and we just fell short with £22,389. Lots of people during the show were asking if they could just donate money even if they didn’t want some plants and we didn’t have the details to give out at the time, but if you would like to donate have a look at their website.
I saved up some of my gardening orders for the weekend so that I could help raise money for the charity. I ordered our Gardening Pick of the Month, which were beautiful sweet and succulent strawberries from Suttons. It was a busy show and I ordered quite a few sets of bulbs and plants and although it was somewhat insider trading, I was glad I was presenting it because so many of them sold out!
Also I’ve been trying out some new products at home, which is always fun and very useful. I’ll be telling people about a lovely Big Deal that we have on QVC Extra this week, which is a great indoor/outdoor rug.
We have lots of different colours and sizes and the great thing about this rug is not only does it look beautiful but it is very hard-wearing, easy to wash, lightweight, movable and as you can see from the picture must be rather comfortable! I literally took this out the packet at home and popped it on the floor, turned my back and a second later I had two dogs commandeering their new position!
I have also been trying out a new cleaning aid: the Super Fix Cyclone Washing Brush. This brush attaches to the end of your hose and the pressure from the water makes the brush rotate. There are two brush heads; one slightly stiffer than the other, so cleaning things like muddy mountain bikes, barbecue grills, car wheels and garden furniture suddenly become an awful lot easier. The thing that I like most about this brush is that all you are using is water.
You don’t have to use any elbow grease, chemical sprays or cloths just let the water, the brush and the pressure put in all the effort. Tom Shepherd will be showing me this on air at the weekend so if you’d like to see it in action join us for some DIY.
We also have a busy weekend coming up and Mont Rose have a wonderful offer for some lily bulbs, which I wrote a little story about just recently, so I hope you will join us for that. I’ve got some lovely things to try out over the next few weeks because as you’ve come to expect at QVC, there’s always loads in store!
