Hi all,
Just a quickie blog this week to share some momentous news with you –
I made a CAKE!
Now, I know this would not be particularly exciting for most people, but for me this is mega. I am such a terrible cook and, although I've tried once or twice in the past to make a cake, it's always been pretty disastrous. I just hate cooking, of any kind.
So when QVC gave me a Bamix Blender to try out at home (it's going to be our Today's Special Value on Easter Sunday), I must admit I took it with a heavy sigh and a heavier heart.
Anyway, I decided to adopt a positive attitude, had a look through the recipe book that came with it and decided to be adventurous. There were tons of recipes for simple things like dips and sauces, but I was in a cake mood. I love Victoria Sponge and the recipe sounded quite simple and, more to the point, QUICK!
So here, in real time, is me making my first ever Victoria Sponge. It took exactly two minutes and seventeen seconds, which is rather incredible.
(And if you're wondering who that is behind the camera, sniggering at my lack of culinary ability, it's my lovely husband!)

And here is the finished result. A quick layer of whipped double cream and strawberry jam and I had a slightly wonky but very tasty cake!
I'm quite thrilled with it! I'm not sure if this will become a regular thing but I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was with the Bamix. Marvellous.
I have a few days off coming up now – and I am literally jumping up and down with excitement because hubby and I have been invited to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday in quite spectacular fashion.
We are only going to Venice on the Orient Express! I absolutely can't wait. I'll tell you all about it in my next blog. Until then, have a wonderful week and I hope the sun is shining where you are.
As always, get in touch and tell me what you're up to – either by leaving a comment below this blog or following me on Twitter at @jackiekabler.
Lots of love,
Jackie x

Hi Jackie,
So will we be seeing you on The Great British Bake Off with Mary Berry. Your sponge looked good enough to eat. What is next on the menu ? I enjoy cooking especially with my Kitchen Aid which I got from QVC, they are brilliant.
Wow sounds as if you are in for a great time going on the Orient Express, that is something I have always fancied. Hope you both have a great time and look forward to your next blog.

Hi Jean,
Haha, don’t think I will be entering any baking competitions but at least the cake was edible! Very excited about the Orient Express, will tell all about it next week! Have a lovely weekend.
