Zalza your way to fitness and fun, anti ageing tips, and how to get my chapter one for free!

Debbie with Russell and FlaviaThis Week-

– Zalza comes to QVC with Russell Grant and Flavia!

– What’s your Werewolf name?!

– Debs First Novel update – join the yahoo group and 100 first to join will get free sample of first chapter before anyone else!

– Sneaky peeks and fun on air with Simon Brown in another kitchen blooper!

– Plus film review – Jane Eyre on DVD

First thing to say is – if you missed it, don’t forget to go read the extra blog earlier this week, with the lovely author Mandy Baggot (click here) including a comp to win a signed copy of her new book Security! And her story of how she got her book deal!

Plus if you like books, and are a ‘parent in need’, do go look at this week’s Book of the Week – a must if you’re tearing your hair out! Hehe! And news of a new Liz Earle hair product! All below! Enjoy!

Well of course I had to headline this week’s blog with my Thursday night extravaganza on the ‘dance floor’ with our old QVC pal Russell Grant and the lovely Flavia Cacace – Strictly Come dancing Champ and Russell’s partner in this new fitness DVD?

I LOVE that it’s teaching the basic elements of several ballroom dances – always wanted to do it but can’t even jive, so the midnight TSV launch was a bit of a trial-by-ballroom! However it’s great fun and believe me – really gets your body moving! Highly recommended if you’d like to get a bit of activity in your life with two lovely people – from beginners to a bit more advanced (400402).

Russell was very gracious backstage, talking about the old days at QVC, where he used to bring on his astrology products, tarot etc. He still watched now, he says! When he’s not busy doing tons of other stuff, since his success on Strictly. And he says, yes even at 62, he’s still loving doing the moves – not quite like Jagger! – but definitely like Grant! Lol. It was lovely to see him. If you’re reading this Friday night (12th) the today’s special value may still be available!

Thought this was quite entertaining! Just a little bit of fun, circulating online recently. I posted about ‘rock star’ names some time ago, do you remember? Well this one is even more quirky! Mine is Ancient Warrior – what’s yours?! And are you a fan of all those werewolf and vampire films?

I must admit cos I love my romances, I never really got into them – plus daughter Lauren wasn’t really bothered or maybe I’d have been – you get roped into what your kids are into, don’t you! I remember being completely up on all the latest events in The Hills and Britain’s Next Top Model, even tho they wouldn’t have been my first choice TV viewing – bonding with teenagers, eh! Meant I knew who Spencer and Heidi were on the recent Celeb Big Brother tho… oops? Me watching BB? Nooo surely not! Shhh! Secrets out!

What’s your guilty TV secret? Let me know with a comment below!

– Well what can I say – but Simon’s face did make me laugh that week on the Cook’s Essentials hour. That’ll teach me!

STILL TO COME – how to see chapter one of my book for free, a teaser of the new Liz Earle hair product, and Jane Eyre – DVD review!

Read it, Write it, Sell itREAD IT WRITE IT SELL IT!our weekly look at all things book!

This week – freebies on the tube, good-dad book, and how to get my first chapter for free!

Well how did you get on reading my last blog, with author Mandy Baggot? (Here) Did you read her book yet? What did you think of her style? Authors always want to know what readers think – that’s why reviews are so vital, hence the pic above. Sure Debbie, that’s the ONLY reason why you included this pic, right? Hehe!

Book of the week– Book of the week – One Minute Super Dad, Kindle edition – look inside!

This week’s Book of the Week has great reviews! One person says ‘if you are a dad, or about to be a dad, you need this book!’

It’s a non-fiction title for you, and is all about the little moments that can mean so much – or be so damaging – to little people. I read something similar called ‘How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk’ years ago and it completely changed how I dealt with my kids.

Till then, I’d just been doing what I’d seen other parents do – then suddenly it opened my eyes to a new kind of parenting communication. So I think this book could do the same.

It’s a kindle edition, but being online means you can usually have a look inside – seeing the first few pages is often a brilliant way of deciding to buy, and gives that ‘inside the bookshop’ feeling! I do like some of their suggestions – and I’m a very big fan of the ‘one minute’ series, so check this one out! Click here for more info.

And do get used to looking on Amazon ‘cos if you can, that’s where you’ll find my own first novel – in kindle or paperback – next month! See below for news…

Underground– Books On The Underground

What a fabulous idea! Ever heard of this? Ever seen any of these special books with the stickers floating around the London Underground? Superb recycling concept!

Borrow it, read it, then leave it on a tube again for others – and if you spot any, here’s their twitter address to find out more! @booksundergrnd

– Update on Debbie’s First Novel – Hawaiian Affair

Just been finding out about how to get your own book uploaded and available online, and Mandy Baggot told me about All very fascinating! The journey towards publishing day continues apace…

Meanwhile, I had another lovely review on Hawaiian Affair from one of my facebook Beta-Readers, who said –

‘I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down- I found it easy to engage with the main characters – Sadie who was in the South of France for a business meeting and Mac who was a Billionaire Playboy… It had humour, excitement and also a little steamy ! A good read! Mausie B’

Hawaiian SceneSee my first chapter for free

How would you like to enrol to be amongst the first to see it? It’s due to be published online in paperback or kindle versions first (or second) bank holiday in May.

Sharon my lovely writing group pal and I have set up a special Yahoo group – where you get email updates (don’t worry it won’t be used to spam you!)

If you join ‘Debbie’s Readers’ – the pre-launch group – you’ll get news and competitions – and teaser samples – emailed one a week directly to your inbox.

Just send an email saying ‘I’d like to join debbie’s group’ to:

Or visit to join up. Simples!

You’ll get an invite back, reply to it, and voila! Be quick tho’ – the first 100 people to join by 29th April will get chapter one emailed to them as an advance preview! This group will really help me to keep in touch with you! You can be as active as you like, choose to receive whatever update frequency you prefer, and keep in touch generally about my book news!

I’ll also have a copy of my weightloss autobiography ‘Till the Fat Lady Slims’ available at some stage soon too. So do sign up! This way you won’t miss anything, and you’ll be the first to get the news of publication date – and whether Hawaiian Affair ever ends up in the shops! (That’s not the plan initially – just self-publishing for now). Looking forward to hearing from you.

Next week – news from the ‘How to write for the US audience’ writing course this Saturday in Oxford.

 Deb with Andrea McLeanSNIPPETS –

-Diamonique with Andrea McLean – Had fun on air with this lovely lady and her DQ jewellery this week too – especially when I described the bit between your collar bones – Andrea’s take on it was priceless! Click here to see it again. Have you even heard of it? I think that’s the right word for it – manubrium divide? Isn’t it? Or am I going mad! Hehe!

Debbie and Lin– Funny thing this week – behind the scenes during the Zalza launch, same night as my sister Linda was in to do Red Carpet Manicure (advanced orders but you can book yours – item number 400344).

Russell Grant’s DVD company boss and I had been chatting before the show – me with no makeup and all -about book publishing etc. Anyway a bit later, he walked up to my sis, and said ‘you look so different with your makeup on!’ Bless him! Then gave her a card, thinking it was me!

He never realised till later when I saw him! We don’t look that alike, we don’t think? But I guess there’s something about us that’s similar! Do you see it?

Queen– Ok so the article described her as ‘veteran’ pop star Kate Bush, which made me feel very old – she’s only 54! But I did think if it was me meeting the Queen to collect her CBE at Windsor last week, I’d have gone for some non-crease stretch jersey!

I know a few designer ranges I could point her to! Seriously well done Kate – I felt very proud, as a self-confessed Kate Bush fan of many years, specially the early stuff. (As you’ll know from last week’s video clip of me doing the impression on the Generation Game when I was 19! See here if you missed it)

Funny pic doing the round– This week’s pic doing the rounds made me giggle – have you got a dog like this one?! How industrious of him! It’s bad enough for me with Daisy my Escape Dog – who tunnelled UNDER Colditz Pen this week! Have blocked it now tho. Hah in your face, Escape Dog! Lol.

(And a quick update on Holly the oldest Labrador for those that wondered – yes she’s ok, the lump was just fatty tissue, and she goes in to have the second, deeper lump out on 17th. Will keep you informed.).

– For more behind the scenes QVC stuff, do become my facebook friend and follow me on Twitter please! (I tell you secrets – like sneaky shots of the One Time Only bargains coming up in fashion hours etc!). Full info below!

WATCH – DVD – Jane Eyre – My rental disc finally got watched (I’d had it a while again – am useless sometimes! Lol) Decided that whilst it was lovely and moody and atmospheric and Michael Fassbender was maybe just a bit too good looking to play Rochester, Jane played by Mia Wasikowska was an absolute star! A good Sunday afternoon film – 8 out of ten, mainly for her performance, and Judy Dench as the housekeeper, who is always good value for money! Click here to watch the trailer.  It’s not all laid back tho’ – there’s one bit that made me jump so much near the start, I spilled coffee all over my knee! Lol! What a nitwit! Let me know what you think below!

Have you seen Alison’s update about it yet? It’s always exciting when a new Liz Earle product hits the airwaves, and this one is no exception – for treatment on damp hair, and for styling frizziness, I’m sure it’ll be just as popular as her brilliant shampoos etc. See Ali's blog here

PSSST! – Date for your diary – much fuss about the Antthony top I wore on air last week (the lovely blue and white poncho looking one) – then even more about the orangey leopard one I wore for Zalza this week! Well the lovely guy is back – 3-5 May, when I’ll also have the next Ammolite show – watch out for me wearing some of it! And put the dates in your diary!

Orange top Antthony top

– The Kim and Co Today’s Special Value on Sunday promises to be a good one! I hear it’s under £26!

And of course on Monday the lovely Marie Francoise Wolff joins us for the Kipling TSV I sneaky peeked last week!

Tsv– And then I’m looking forward to spending an hour with my pal and QVC favourite Gill Gauntlett in a ‘light up your garden hour’ on Tuesday at 10pm, including the luxform set of 2 Stainless Steel Solar Lights.

– And on Wednesday our fabulous Ginetta returns for a two hour special with Charlie of Veronese Jewellery – with some 10th anniversary bargains!

I’m off for a few days, at the end of the week, including looking after poor Holly the Elder as she goes back in to have second lump removed, so won’t be on air after Tuesday. But am really looking forward to this weekend with all the wonderful Summer Fashion Event stuff! Including a helping of Ingrid on Sunday afternoon! And it’s supposed to be really good weather this weekend! So we’ll see eh! Fingers crossed!

Have a good week, and don’t forget to leave me a comment below!

Best wishes Debs

I am determined to master the Facebook world!
Loved the Zalza show last night by the way! Yes I did buy the DVD!

    Hi Debs
My werewolf name is Rogue Vixen ha ha, if only lol.
Loved Russell & Flavia with Zalza. Been waiting a long time for this as I love all things Strictly. Been to many live shows and Brenda Cole’s was really really good. He’s so much nicer than portrayed in the series.
I am a Pilates fan so thought this would complement this very well.
You and your sister are so alike. I like gel polishes and have been having gel toes since Jessica (I know dirty word) first brought the system to the uk. I’m a bit of a wonky nail varnish person and my right hand would look a right mess! So I think I have to leave it to the professionals.
Your blog is always so interesting and funny, maybe you should do a magazine! Now there’s a thought if you want a break from writing. Debbie’s Diary….lol.
    Looking forward to next weeks.
    Joy xx
