Unknown cherries

I don’t like cherries

One green appleI really love the frothy blossom of cherry trees in the early summer but it is one of the only fruits I really don’t like to eat so I have a question for you: are these cherries on my tree (far left) the edible variety? If so I guess I’ll be taking them in to work for my friends to enjoy as Sophie and Chris aren’t huge fans either!

Mind you, I think Sophie prefers them to apples, which she really can’t stand. I think it is the crunch they make when you bite into them as she doesn’t even like to be close to someone eating an apple. That means the solitary apple on our apple tree will be shared by Chis and I, unless it’s a cooking variety, in which case Dorset Apple Cake could be on the cards.

Heart-shaped cakeTalking of cakes and cards it is Chris’s 60th birthday tomorrow so this morning I have been baking him a chocolate cake. I popped it in the oven and nipped out of the room for a few moments. When I came back in, Milo was licking his lips (and paws) … he had licked around the top of the mixing bowl, even though I had put it in the sink and filled it with water prior to going in the dishwasher. At least he hasn’t bitten through any cables this week!!!

Good news for Crystal Palace this week. Not only do we have a new manager (I’ll reserve judgement on that) we have also managed to get Wilf Zaha back from Man United on a season-long loan. I, for one, am delighted. He is an excellent player, so good that we named Daniel’s cat after him. He has a point to prove to David Moyes (and successive managers) for not selecting him so I am hoping he will do it in style against Newcastle tomorrow … it would be nice to get some points!

While talking about Crystal Palace, Daniel allowed his U11’s to drench him with water for the ice bucket challenge … worryingly they really seemed to enjoy it. Sophie and I have also done it to raise awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease. If you’re interested you can check out my video below;

Right, running late because of the cake baking so must dash. I have Cashmasoft as my Fashion on Friday today, and Trinny & Susannah at 7pm. Also, remember to tune in for the QVC Customer Beauty Awards show tonight at 9pm with Ali Young, particularly if you voted for your favourite. Have a great weekend

Much love, Julia x

    Hi Julia
First well done for your Ice Bucket Challenge, the best one by far. You had us all going there with the umbrella and the tiny pot, very funny…hope the drenching was after your workout and not before!! Must say that the other presenters have done well too, but think that everyone is waiting for AY to be done now.
Not sure about your cherries, now that sounds awful, but you know what I mean lol! Hope Chris enjoys his Birthday and cake too!
Had my x-ray results back, my spine is pretty straight, which is good, apart from the lumbar area which should have a curve, mine is very straight with a little wear’n’tear etc and because it is so straight they think the pain inside my spine was a type of spasm. A few weeks ago, having felt dreadful, not sleeping again, bone pain, muscle pain, neck and throat issues, I decided to really research the medication for cholesterol and acid reflux. What I read by real people was quite frightening in the long term, so I took matters into my own hands and stopped both drugs, mainly to see if they were the culprits. Firstly the cholesterol one, then reduced the other until stopped both completely and the results have been amazing, sleeping better, lost weight, more energy, my neck glands which always felt up are reduced and tenderness gone. I was half expecting the Dr to tell me off, but no, she thought the less medication the better and will check my cholesterol in December. I’ve changed my diet completely now, a little like Catherine, got rid of the rubbish, fresh fruit, veg and home made flapjacks if I want something sweet. I have been on my bike every day and even my ankle feels different, it was always swollen.
I’m a different person, far happier and brighter in myself, even my hairdresser said I looked better and had lost weight…Chris says he’s got the old me back! Must admit I was getting fed up with myself always feeling like that, every time we arranged to do something at the weekend, I was there with the hot water bottle and the ‘crunch’ was not going out of the house for 3 weeks in a row, seriously!
Hope your Mum had a lovely Birthday and wish Chris Happy Birthday too!
    Annette xx

    Hi Julia,
I could’nt say if the cherries on your tree are the edible type. I really love cherries but have not bought them for quite a while as they are so expensive!! I don’t know why they are? We had apple trees at our previous house but they were not very good. We also tried growing tomatoes and strawberries to no avail. We even invested in a green- house. Our garden plants and shrubs thrived and were stunning. I don’t know why we’ve never had much luck with growing anything edible.
The weather has been dreadful today. We went for our usual fish and chips today and I was really glad I took my Centigrade puffer coat with me. The weather is supposed to be getting warmer next week though, hopefully. I never thought I’d be wearing my winter coats in August.
Well it’s time for me to get the evening meal ready(someting healthy after our splurge lunch time!)
    Hope you are keeping well.
    Best wishes Tina S.(S.Wales)

    Hi Julia,
Yes I think they are Cherries, edible I do not know, I love Cherries, really good for you. We have a farm just up from us who have a big orchard and have been growing lots of different cherries for the last three years, they are gorgeous. I guess Richard Jackson is your best bet on the Cherries.
The cake looks good, Milo approved. Love the photo of him in the basket, he has lovely markings.
Hope your Football Team does well.
Love the video of you doing the ice bucket challenge, my daughter Heidi and her husband did it the other day. I am waiting to see Jill Franks do it, I expect there will be a few oh my gosh’s.
Yes I did get some Molton Brown, Christmas pressies.
    Enjoy your weekend.
    Love Jean XX

Hi julia, good to see you do the ice bucket challenge,it really has caught on and hopefully done what it set out to do and raise money for research.
Love d the look of your cake! Hope you all have a great time celebrating Chris’s 60th. Can’t quite believe we are in that age bracket now, can you? It’s like where have the years gone!
Milo licking the bowl made me laugh! And nice to hear how Wilfy got his name, I did wonder.
I’ve had a couple of rough weeks so am talking to my doctor on Thursday to see if there is anything more drug wise we can tweek, to help.
We had our granddaughters last Thursday and Friday, and had a great time together. My youngest daughter Amy was here too which helped. We are waiting for our 5th baby girl to be born, she is due on 26th of September, Martyn will be down to Bristol to help.
Lovely to have seen you on air recently and enjoy a few days off.
    Much love diane xxx
