Hottest ever French hols and big news for TSV launches!

1

As you may have noticed I have been away from QVC, and regulars to my social media will be aware it’s because I was in Devon, then on my annual week’s writing holiday in France! Had an amazing time as usual. And here are a few of the sights and happenings.

The first thing is that I experienced the hottest temperatures I have ever known, beating the 37C when I went to Tuscany with Craig seven years ago. It hit 40C near Bordeaux! My writing mentor Julie Cohen (great author, check her books out) and I did a bit of sightseeing in Bordeaux, in all the heat, including an interesting bus tour, a beautiful church, some wonderful meals, and a lot of walking! We needed a sit down in the giant deckchair after all that!

As usual, I had a lovely time at Chez Castillon, caught up with some old friends, swam in the pool, walked Rory the dog next to the Dordogne, had a delicious meal at the riverside restaurant, made lots of new friends, and wrote and wrote!

Janie and Mickey Wilson were excellent hosts as usual, and this time it was nice to share some anecdotes about running a writing retreat, comparing what happens to mine in Devon. Kindred spirits! One of the most wonderful things was being cooked for instead of doing the cooking, and of course Jamie’s meals were excellent. I can’t believe how fast the week went. And of course it got progressively hotter as each day went by. More importantly, I got my head completely back in the book that I am writing, my fifth novel, called ‘French or Dutch’ should be finished this year. By hook or by crook…

Ironic that I can only get lots of books written when I go away to a writing retreat, retreating from my one :-). I’m very, very happy about how the book is shaping up now. Watch out for updates on my social media about it.

I tried to do as many vlogs as I could. Go here to my Facebook page and see them, including one walking over the Dordogne, have a look at the colour of my hair!

And this one, from Bordeaux itself. I was amazed at the different replies I got in the comments section – take a look!

I loved walking Rory the dog and playing with Charlie the cat as well, nicknamed because of his little funny black moustache, and it made me miss Daisy. But she was having a lovely time at my friend Jennie‘s, playing with the spaniels and doing what her sister Gracie used to do – laying asleep on her back in the middle of the room! How funny. Looking forward to seeing her when I go back to Devon on Monday.

This weekend’s highlights:

FridayTarte Cosmetics return with a lovely new five piece make up set, go here to see it and buy it.

Sunday – After a flying visit down to a dinner in Devon on Saturday, I’m back again on Sunday evening, including with the Today’s Special Value from the LAB girls. It’s the Pro Lift + Anti-Ageing Complete System with red light, green light, blue light and galvanic technology plus nine Hydrating Masks. This sort of thing really works, you just need to give it time and dedication to use it, but only a few times a week. Really worth a go.

Eilidh on the Stage

Just thought I would give a little mention that I’m hoping to see my lovely friend and fellow presenter Eilidh performing in a play! How talented everyone is. With Jackie having her new book out, Julia has just released hers online, Catherine has been in plays, Pipa writes music, many of them dance, (and that’s just Charlie and Dale ha ha) and now Eilidh is on the stage as well. Escapology is on in EC1 at the Old Red Lion pub in a couple of weeks, and Eilidh plays Viv. I am sadly working all four days, as it’s a weekend – typical! Hope I catch the next one and I’m sure she will be brilliant :-). Mickey and Janie Wilson from France are also an actor and actress, their loo walls are full of their old posters. It reminded me that I was once in a couple of plays, including Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing and Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream while at uni. But I’m better at being myself! I will leave the acting to the professionals!

Book of the Week

A Vintage Summer by Cathy Bramley – Cathy was on the retreat in France this week, finishing her 12th book! Well done her, she got 27,000 words done in the week! So I decided to ask what would be a good audiobook to begin with, and she recommended this one. Lottie moves north to escape London and helps old Betsy to rescue Butterworth Wines, combating her errant grandson who wants to sell it and put her in a home. But big secrets come back to haunt them… Looks good 🙂

Watch

I have had my eye on Yesterday, at the cinema. After a freak accident, a guitarist finds he is the only person in the world who remembers the Beatles. They just did not happen. He plays the songs and everyone thinks they are his own. A proper else-world type surreal movie, with lots of laughs along the way. Hope I get time to see it!
