Today is my last day on air until the 22nd June – I have taken two weeks of annual leave but, due to the way my shift falls, it equates to nineteen days away from QVC. I love my job but, I must confess, I am really looking forward to this time off.
The first week will be all about getting well, after being ill with one thing or another for the whole of May! Then I will be packing my suitcase and heading to the house in Spain that we rent, where we celebrated my 60th birthday last year. In my suitcase will be the new Skechers flip-flops I have ordered and the Nina Leonard cropped trousers I treated myself to, along with my Ultrasun. I’m quite well stocked up, having bought two of the previous Today’s Special Values.
If you need some, check out our Today’s Special Value this coming Sunday (pictured above), whether you are going on holiday or not.
My favourite is the Glimmer SPF20, with Anti-Pigmentation SPF50 for my face. The male members of the family are definitely Sports SPF20 fans.
I was wearing my sun protection last Saturday, when I was out in the garden planting up my hanging baskets and containers.
I was supposed to be going to an author/book blogger event which had been in the diary for months and I was really looking forward to. Although I wasn’t feeling great, I had taken the day off work especially, so I got myself ready and headed to the station.
The train was late, and when it arrived it was packed… as in rammed so full that I, and about twenty other passengers, simply couldn’t get on. I had forgotten that there was rugby at Twickenham and the FA Cup final at Wembley, not to mention the PGA golf at Wentworth!
If I had felt 100% I might have tried to cram myself on to the train but, instead, I went home and attacked the garden. Everything is looking very pretty now, although I am still awaiting the arrival of last Friday’s Today’s Special Value planter set – yes, I succumbed and ordered the Slate Blue!
I seem to have ordered an awful lot from QVC lately – earlier this week, along with the clothes and shoes, I also ordered the Karcher Window Vac and the Mrs Gleam Oven Cleaner – both of which are desperately needed. I think I’ll put before and after photos on here next week.
I mentioned last week that the paperback ‘Alice in Theatreland’ is out on the 27th June and this week I have been approving the proof for the print copy. It is always such a thrill to receive the very first ‘actual’ copy.
I will be running a competition on the blog on my author website www.juliarobertsauthor.com to win signed copies ahead of its publication, so do check it out early next week and sign up to receive my newsletter while you’re there.
One of our fashion guests, Imogen Connelly, has just come back from holiday and sought me out at work yesterday to tell me how much she enjoyed Alice, and Elemis’s Keeley Aydin said it is her favourite of all my books so far. I couldn’t possibly comment – like children, I shouldn’t have book-baby favourites!
Well, as I said earlier, after today I am away from QVC for a while, which means I will miss the next Butler & Wilson shows, the Elemis Mini Series and also Attitudes by Renee when she is back on the 19th June – disappointing, but I really do need a break and a bit of ‘me’ time.
Hopefully I’ll see you today for my shows, including Fashion on Friday at 5pm which today is Together… odd in itself as that was the last show I presented last year before my June break… anyone remember the birthday cake?
Before I go, remember to check out the QVC Style channel’s Look of the Week for next week below:

Hi Julia nice blog as usual. You have a lovely holiday in Spain you have had a rotten may. Have a lovely birthday and enjoy the time off. Will be buying your book cannot wait, but not too long now to get it, prefer to have a book to read.
Much love
Elizabeth ?
Hi Elizabeth
Apologies for the delay in replying – I intended to do my replies when I got back to QVC but my feet have hardly touched the ground!!! My birthday was a bit different with the journey out to Spain but enjoyable nevertheless.
I wonder if you’ve got your copy of Alice in Theatreland yet? If so, I hope you are enjoying it – let me know

Hi Julia, sorry to hear you have been feeling under the weather, but am sure a holiday in the sun will help? I caught the Together show today and you looked good, as ever, loved the hair! I am looking forward to reading your new book, if the others are anything to go by, I won’t be able to put it down. I was meant to go up to Nottingham for a funeral a couple of weeks ago, but ended up looking after my sister following her knee surgery. Still I enjoyed being in Hampshire for a couple of weeks. Am going back down there tomorrow for a few days to check on the patient. Enjoy your ‘me’ time, (something we all need), have a relaxing holiday in Spain and look forward to seeing you back on air towards the end of June. Stay safe, love Gill xx
Hi Gill
My holiday in the sun was just what the doctor ordered – it should be on the National Health! – seems a distant memory now though.
The title character in my new book is from Nottingham and is a dancer – anything sounding familiar? What befalls her though has thankfully never happened to me. I hope you will enjoy it.
I trust your sister’s knee is recovering well?

Hi Julia enjoy your “me time” I’m also looking forward to reading Alice having enjoyed your other trilogy and short story. What white jeans? We’re you wearing yesterday on fashion Friday they had zips at the bottom? Ps I bought the black floaty top x
Hi Breda
Apologies for the delay in replying – as a consequence of which I can’t remember which white jeans I was wearing, so sorry!
Did you buy the Together black floaty top? Great isn’t it.
I hope you will enjoy reading ‘Alice’ as much as the other books – really appreciate the support.

Hi Julia
The Karcher Window Vac is one of my favourite products. You will find so many uses for it. I live by the sea and forever cleaning the windows a task that is now so much easier. I have wet walls in my bathroom and a large wall mirror that took forever to clean and then dry. With the Karcher…..job done. Not forgetting drying tiles, shower doors, wardrobe mirrors and glass tables. As you can tell I do love it. Have a wonderful holiday and recharge those batteries.

Hi Fran
A massive confession – it’s still in the box! I have had a lot going on alongside QVC and my writing and not enough hours in the day! However I was looking at my conservatory today and will hopefully get around to doing it this week – good recommendation.
Thanks

So happy you’re feeling better Julia, enjoy Spain.
Thanks Josephine – it was a much needed holiday x
Have a fab break Julie, hope you come back nice and refreshed! Having a short break myself next week and looking forward to reading your book.
Hi Anne
I hope you enjoyed your break as much as I did mine. Did you read Alice? If you liked it maybe you would consider writing a review? – it would be much appreciated

Hi Julia
‘Happy Birthday!’ for Saturday my fellow Gemini Girl. Enjoy the day, pressies, cake and a little tipple or maybe a big one to wash it all down with, just the pick me up you need after being poorly etc. Along with the sunshine, please send some this way whilst you’re there, winter woolly time again!
Just joined the Kindle clan and downloaded the App along with a copy of Alice…hopefully I’ll get a minute to loose myself, could do with the distraction at the moment!!
Having an awful time the last few weeks, we’ve put the house on the market, having said that was the last move, who was I kidding! My scalp, hair and skin have gone bananas again (stress maybe?), praying that my hair doesn’t thin like it did a couple of years ago, although my hairdresser has given me a Swedish shampoo to try, if it works I’ll let you know.
My face on the other hand is in a terrible state, no matter what I use red, itchy and burning, came out of the blue and nothing I use works even Argan Oil, so I’ve resorted to washing a moisturising with Aqueous Cream, which has calmed it a little.
I can remember a few years ago you had a similar issue which turned you to tears almost, I can honestly relate to that…fingers crossed it won’t flare up too much for Saturday, otherwise I won’t want to go out and celebrate and will stuff my face with chocolate fudge cake and ice cream!!
Have a lovely time in the sunshine, enjoy your Birthday and return relaxed and refreshed!
love

Hi Annette
So sorry to hear you’re in the wars again. I hope you are gradually getting your skin under control? When I had my massive flare up I had to resort to steroid creams under direction from a skin specialist – I had different strengths for different bits of me – from hydrocortisone to dermavate. Once under control I used pure avocado oil to cleanse & moisturise. You have my sympathy but I can definitely empathise too.
I hope you felt well enough to celebrate ‘our’ birthday? I didn’t have any cake but may have had a small tipple ? How are you getting on with your Kindle? Have you read Alice yet – what did you think.
Fingers crossed for skin improvement next time you write
