Honey is off to nursery

It must be something to do with the summer holidays, but there seem to be an inordinate amount of roadworks in progress at the moment! I came out of the Q last night to find the M4 closed, so having circumnavigated my way around Hounslow, I joined it again, only to find they’d closed my exit too! Windsor looked lovely in the moonlight though…

Thank you so much for your patience and perseverance in posting comments here on the blog this last fortnight! We had a long-standing problem that has mercifully now been fixed, and so I’ve been trying hard to answer you all before posting this new one. Great to catch up on all your holiday news and to know that you enjoyed the family pictures. I’m so sorry I forgot to include the photo of the sunset – here it is – along with a picture of the moon from the other night when the clouds finally cleared. I have to admit to being a little obsessed with the moon at night, and working the late shift as I usually do, has given me far more opportunity to spot it!

Mind you, it’s not just the moon that’s caught my attention, but also some of the newer TV dramas! Are you watching Keeping Faith or Bodyguard? Both incredibly clever and so very well acted. I don’t want either of them to end.

I will admit to being more than a little envious though when I first saw our Today’s Special Value which is available up until midnight tonight! You might have seen James Murden and myself last night extolling the virtues of the Samsung mighty 55” curved screen Ultra HD Smart TV?

The picture is exceptional – all down to something called HDR 10+ that optimises the picture quality. Seriously, you need to get it home to truly appreciate it. Imagine watching Strictly Come Dancing, or The Great British Bake Off on it – so real you can almost smell the Victoria sponges! I particularly liked the fact you can hide all the cables away by clipping them onto the TV itself – so tidy!

It’s available in 4 Easy Pay instalments too so that spreads the £599.96 price, and our 30-day money back guarantee applies so we deliver it, and then pick it up if you change your mind. We’ve got a lot of long nights in coming up so perhaps this will be the year you treat yourself to cinematic quality in your own home. If you do, let me know what you think.

It’s only been a month since I stopped presenting my regular Diamonique show on a Tuesday, but I’m delighted to say that I’ll be with you for the launch of Diamonique Day on Monday 3rd September with Alison O’Reilly, and then with Charlie Brook for the three-hour finale the following night! The buying team have seriously pulled out all the stops and whatever it is you’re looking for, I can pretty much guarantee we’ll have it. I must tell you about the TSV though as it’s a personal favourite of mine.

A solid 9ct gold solitaire ring, in three different 1ct stone cuts for less than £75 with 3 Easy Pay instalments. It is EVERYTHING that makes Diamonique my favourite range of jewellery. Completely realistic, and beautifully finished. What a stunning way to move into September.

And it’ll be in September that my beautiful granddaughter Honey makes her move into the education system when she starts nursery school… I can’t quite believe it! Here she is in her little uniform, so excited.

Lucy brought her over on the Bank Holiday Monday and we had a little baking session while Lucy caught up with schoolwork. We made our own pastry in the KitchenAid, and then she did a fantastic job of putting together 12 jam tarts! Such an industrious little person 🙂

Outside of our family weekends, Colin’s been pretty industrious over the summer, and so we’re taking a wee break to Crete at the beginning of September. We’re both very much looking forward to it, as we’ve been like ships that pass in the night for the most part. I can’t deny that I am longing to get into the sunshine again. Having been so spoiled in this country this year, I’m relying heavily on Decleor’s Gradual Glow and Vita Liberata’s Body Blur to maintain that sunkissed look.

Thanks for all the compliments about my hair do, most kind. I’m planning to try the BaByliss Brilliant Shine Ionic Hairbrush as the bleaching tends to take out the shine. We’ll see how I get on.

Well that’s all my news for now, but remember you can keep up with me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram too! Take care and I’ll look forward as always to hearing from you.

With my love,

Ali x

    Hi Ali,
Hope honey gets on OK at nursery. Time has flown! I’m sure she’ll love it and helps that her mum is a teacher! She will be prepared! She looks gorgeous in her uniform.
I know what you mean about roadworks as well. Everywhere!
Hope you have a nice holiday but Londoners have seriously had an amazing summer! Look forward to learning about Crete. Oh and I love your sleek hair Ali x

Lovely blog as ever Alison. Ah bless how grown up does Honey look in her uniform. So cute and how quick she is growing up. You must be very proud and dote on her very much which is lovely. I was very close to my dear Nan too. Hope she has a great time at nursery.

Dear Karen, good to hear from you and I’m glad that you enjoyed the blog. Yes Honey looks so grown-up – where have the last three years gone?! I am beyond proud of her and equally importantly of my daughter who is doing such a great job bringing her up. I feel very lucky to have such a close relationship with them both. I have it on good authority she is thoroughly enjoying nursery. Hope to hear from you soon, love Ali x

Hello Ali, Sunsets & the Moon, nothing better unless it’s spending time with a small person you love! It seems only a few moments ago that you told us about Lucy’s pregnancy & now your Honey is all enthusiastic about going to nursery, Tallulah starts in reception next week, she is also very happy about starting school, let’s hope it lasts. I can’t believe that it’s September tomorrow, the last few days of August are always bittersweet because, even though I love the autumn, packing away summer is always difficult, even more this year after the stunner we’ve had. Ellie & Juliette, aka Etty, came over today, she’s 17 weeks & we said that they have been filled with sunshine with only a few grotty days here & there. I’ve been checking the weather for Taormina as we’ve going away on Sunday, it looks a hot & sunny week so hopefully I can top up my back garden tan & look sunkissed (stealing your description) for my nephew’s wedding the week we come home. Have a wonderful holiday in Crete. Love from Jo x

Dear Jo, I was thinking just the same thing myself while I was away. It’s strange also to have so many photos on my phone all dated and placed, so that I can see how far we’ve all come in the last three years. I’m happy to say that Honey is very much enjoying nursery, and I hope that Tallulah is too. You’re like me when it comes to autumn, and particularly when we’ve had such a great summer – mind you, you will be in Taormina as I write and can continue to enjoy the sunshine there. Topping up my tan has been delightful in Crete 🙂 Thanks so much for your kind offer of the Curtis Stigers tickets – a very big YES PLEASE, and do let me know what I owe you – can’t wait! Very sweet of you to think of me, love Ali xx

I meant to add that I can’t quite believe that Etty is 17 weeks already! How wonderful to have her and Tallulah in your lives. Makes all the difference. Love ALi x

    Dear Ali
Honey looks so cute and she looks more like you as she gets older. I’ve got a beautiful picture of Alfie on my phone taken from his school topic book, it warms my heart every time I look at it. Ali we’re so blessed with our children and grandchildren.
My friend who had leukemia is now in remission after 2 rounds of chemo and is starting to look so much better now, I’m so relieved for her. Crete is a Greek island I would like to visit myself one day, the weather should still be lovely there at this time of year. We are hoping to visit the Canadian Rockies later in the year I am so looking forward to that. I don’t think it will be as relaxing as your holiday though lol.
Hope you and Colin have a lovely relaxing holiday, take care speak soon , love Janet xxx

Dear Janet, it was lovely to hear from you, and I had every intention of replying to you while I was away, but I was locked out of my Ipad, and my eyesight is such that I genuinely don’t think I could have managed to type properly on my phone! I love the idea that you have a pic of Alfie on your phone – Honey is my screensaver too! I am so relieved to hear about your friend – that is very good news. Crete was beautiful although we were subjected to a spectacularly loud and wet thunderstorm on our last night and the following morning. That said, we squeezed a fair bit of sun in too 🙂 Wow! A trip to the Canadian Rockies sounds spectacular – I am sure you will have a fabulous time. Thanks for keeping in touch, and I’m glad you’re keeping well. Love Ali xx

Hi Alison, I cannot resist saying how cute honey bee looks in her uniform , I can still picture my children and grandchildren in their little uniforms..?.Talking of you being hooked on a tv programme brings me to mention North & South starring Patrick Swayze and Kirsty Ally to name a few..Its been a really enjoyable series..Its ended now but if its repeated I recommend seeing it..
I know I am a gran but can I still think Patrick Swayze was gorgeous??….On you tube there is also a ballet scene of him and his wife dancing together its very beautiful..(both ballet trained)
Another enjoyable evening was Bernstein and his music…featured the 197 original west side story stage show, such marvellous voices (Larry Kirt) I loved it and have bought the 1957 original stage play CD… when you requested suggestions of music when you married Colin and I suggested Elgar ,’salute d amour’ today I would suggest “one hand, one heart ” from 1957 original west side musical..,the words are perfect for a special wedding day…
Looking at the rings above I do like the pear cut diamonique ring but Ive just bought a Michele Mone ring which has a fantastic colour match to my 18ct yellow gold wedding ring….love for now, Tricia …

Hi Tricia, lovely to hear from you and I like you still remember my children for school on the first day! Happy to report that Honey is very much enjoying her time at nursery, although it was not that easy for Lucy to leave her on her first day. I have a feeling I started to watch North and South awhile ago, I didn’t realise that Patrick Swayze was ballet trained, or about the YouTube ballet sceneI’m loving the sound of the Bernstein evening and as you know Colin and I took your suggestion of Salute D’amore for our wedding. I will now have to have a listen to One hand One heart – I’m sure I’ll like it. Thanks for keeping in touch and I hope to hear from you again soon, love Ali x

It’s funny how many of us seem to be obsessed with the moon – I saw the tiniest crescent moon while we were away in Crete, but my phone couldn’t pick it up it was too small. We had a lovely time, and there will be photos in the next blog. Enjoy your weekend, love Ali x

    Hello Ali
It’s a lovely warm sunny day here and I’ve been sat out in the garden watching John cut back some bushes. It’s killing me not being able to help but I ve been banned!!!!! I am slowly starting to feel better although the pain levels are still troublesome. Having lost my Independance for a while I’m finding the days very long. The roadworks seem to be nationwide. Everywhere we go there is a hole in the road. It’s so frustrating but not a lot you can do about it. Honey looks lovely in her uniform. A hard day for mum I met. As you say it’s another stage in her development and education. My granddaughter starts school on Tuesday and has told her daddy she is a little nervous. She has spent a few hours at the new school but I think the penny has dropped “its all change”.
We are looking forward to our holiday in just over two weeks. Oh to get some sunshine on the old body! Over and out for now. Take care and sending love and hugs as always. Thankyou for yours too. Judith xx

    • Alison Keenan September 14, 2018 at 1:51 pm -  Reply

Dear Judith I am so sorry that you are still struggling with pain, and I know that it’s hard for you not to be busy and involved with things. I remember it all too well when I had my shoulder done, and it’s incredibly frustrating.. but John is right, you have to take it steady otherwise it will never heal correctly. Bless your little grandaughter… I think school can be daunting for some children. Honey has spent a lot of time with two other little girls and their mum while Lucy teaches, so she’s quite used to being with other children. When Lucy was little though, it had just been she and I, and she found it quite hard to go and was often in tears… I hated it! You must be virtually on the verge of going on your own holiday now, so I am sure the warmth will help you to heal. Do let me know how you get on – Colin and I had a lovely break and I’ll be posting the photos next week. Love Ali xx

Dear Merche, so glad that you both you and John enjoyed your break in Zurich. Not somewhere I’ve ever visited, but it’s on my ever lengthening list! We too had mainly good weather, but also had an incredible thunder storm with torrential rain on the last night and then again just before we flew last night! Mind you, plenty of sunshine too, and I’ll be posting pictures of that in the new blog next week, love Ali xx

Honey’s second name is Beatrice, and I’m not sure whether she’ll inherit a nickname once she starts big school… although I love Honey on its own. I am so glad that you have enjoyed the blogs over the years, and your kind words mean a great deal. I’m hoping to publish my book towards the end of next month, and I think if you enjoy the blogs you will enjoy that too. Colin and I had a lovely holiday thank you, and I’m back to work this evening. Honey , Honey , Honey, I adore your beautiful little granddaughter. She is gorgeous and yes the years fly by too fast. My wee granddaughter Tia started nursery last year so she is into her 2nd year, I notice such a difference in Tia, she is more confident now, but still my precious baby girl as Honey is to you. We have a great time together . Oh Ali, 34 Netherton Dr, Barrhead Glasgow is my address for some of yours and Honey’s baking. Watching Charlie eating your shortbread and Jam puffs made my mouth water, I will accept any of your treats, they all look delicious, he he. just kidding. Finally, i hope you and Colin have a lovely holiday, a well deserved break for the 2 of you, but i will miss you on QVC, my favourite lady in the world is what you are. Devine, beautiful, funny and absolutely stunning every day. Sending you and your beautiful precious family all my love. Thank you Alison for sharing your life with all of us. your forever fans, you make us feel like your best friends..xxxxx Lynn xxxx

Dear Lynn, so lovely to hear from you and to read your comment. You had me laughing out loud, and honestly, if I ever get round to baking more shortbread I’ll see if I can post a few to you! I don’t think the jam puffs would make it in the Royal Mail 🙂 Tia sounds delightful, and how wonderful for you, like me, to have such a fabulous relationship with her. Honey makes me feel young again, and it’s like having Lucy as a little girl. Lynn, I also want to thank you for your sweet words. Bless you, I am so glad that my sharing our life with you makes you happy – reading all these lovely comments each week on the blog does the same for me. You take care, love Ali xx

Hi Ali! I do hope you are well. I am watching you & Charlie at the moment in the final hour of Diamonique Day & so want a jam puff!! I do love your sunset/moon photos & I can often be seen by my neighbours in the early hours standing in the garden in my PJs with my camera lol. The photo of Honey baking is adorable & brings back lovely memories of baking days with my late Nan. Jam tarts & Bakewell tarts were my favourite things to make. I can’t believe how grown up she looks & she looks more like you every time I see her!! We recently went to York for my Andrew’s birthday & had a marvellous time. We ended our Sunday by watching Mama Mia Here We Go Again in a delightful Everyman cinema (have you been? they are independent boutique cinemas) filled with sofas & serving coffees, alcohol & food-what a treat. How are you doing with your Lawn Magic? We are due to treat ours again at the weekend & pleased to see it has rescued the damage caused by the hot weather. I have noticed the nights are quickly drawing in & the dawn chorus is getting later in the mornings. I have just ordered the last 2 row tennis slider bracelet for myself as it was such a bargain (I feel very smug to have got in there) & the set of 3 heart earrings for my gift drawer. I can now say I have officially started my Christmas shopping. Have a great week Ali & enjoy your days off.

    Love & Hugs

Hi Mandy, how funny that you and Lynn were both salivating over the jam puffs! Charlie was so pleased with them I wish I’d made more! How lovely for you to have memories of baking with your Nan. I used to bake with my mum and we used to make rock cakes and often sugar pastries with what was left over from the jam tarts. Bakewell tart is one of my all time favourites and mum makes that too – I’ve never tried it! So pleased you managed to get the two row tennis bracelet. They’re great value, and look so pretty on. Well done for shopping early for Christmas too! Having just got back to far cooler weather, I too can sense the autumn. I’d better start my shopping list too! Keep in touch, and I’ll let you know about the lawn magic – the garden’s a bit of a muddle as we’ve been away but we plan to attack it this weekend. Love Ali x

Feeling heartbroken this morning Ali. Our beautiful, funny little friend lost his fight in the early hours of the morning. We all knew it was coming, but it was still a shock. I knew as soon as I saw his daddies number on the phone at 7 a.m. They are absolutely devastated, they have devoted everything to make sure they could make him as happy and comfortable as possible. We are so glad we could make it possible for them to have their lovely holiday earlier in the year. Memories we can all treasure. Away to try to pull myself together, and psych myself up to tell Meli.

Thank you for your kind words. The funeral was on Friday. I can honestly say it was AMAZING, which is the most ridiculous thing to say under the circumstances. Nobody was allowed to wear black and they were handing out these massive lollipops as we left the church. There were a lot of children there from his school and they had a mini carousel and games at the wake. He loved going to the fair, he could not go on any of the rides. But he loved the music and the lights. The whole atmosphere was of fun, and it was so him. There was much more laughter than tears and that’s just the way it should be for him. X
