Holidays and festivals

Hi all,

I’ve had some time off since my last blog, ahead of what is going to be a very busy working summer. First, hubby and I escaped to Italy for a few days, spending one night in the pretty city of Padua before driving to Lake Garda. I absolutely love being near water (although I’m not particularly fond of swimming – weird, eh!?), so to stay in a hotel right on the shoreline was such a joy. The view from our balcony was just stunning – there is just something so tranquil and calming about a lake, and it was a beautiful spot for me to get some writing done too, which I did every morning while hubby read his book or hired a bike and went out to explore.

Julia Roberts' book cutoffAs always, I brought lots of books to read as well, one of which was “Life’s a Beach And Then…” by our own Julia Roberts. It’s a romance novel, and not my usual sort of holiday read (I’m more a crime and thriller fanatic!) but she may have converted me because it’s FAB! It’s a story of love, friendship and a bit of tragedy thrown in, mostly set in beautiful Mauritius, and it really is the perfect beach holiday read. You can get it now for your Kindle but she’s bringing out the paperback this month too (on the 19th) so if you prefer a real book, you won’t have long to wait. It’s part of a trilogy and Julia is working on the second part now.

And don’t forget fellow presenter Debbie Flint’s novel “Take a Chance on Me” (the one she previously self-published as “Hawaiian Affair”) is also available on Amazon. The publishing date for MY first novel is set for October… more on that as soon as my publisher will allow me to share!

This weekend we went to the first of a few music festivals we’re hoping to go to over the summer – Let’s Rock Bristol, a fantastic eighties weekend! On Saturday the line-up included Sam Fox, Bucks Fizz, Sister Sledge and Five Star among others, which took me right back to my teenage years. The highlights for me though were the fabulous Jimmy Somerville, who is just a little powerhouse of energy and talent and who doesn’t seem to have aged a day, and the wonderful ABC, with Martin Fry looking dapper as ever in a sharp suit and still with that amazing voice. It was a fabulous day in the Bristol sunshine (although we could have done without the chilly wind!).

Now though it’s back to work – it’s going to be a busy but fabulous summer, I hope! Looking forward to being back on your telly box this week. Let me know what your summer plans are, it’s always great to hear from you. You can leave a comment under this blog or say hello on Twitter (I’m @jackiekabler).

Have a great week.

Love Jackie x
