Highlights of 2013, Back to You show and resolution helpers!

Back to youThis week –
– Funny first bloopers! Including Alison Young putting facemask on Gatineau Andrew

– Highlights from 2013, if you missed them on QVC over New Year

– All about my new Monday night show, Back to You, and a list of self-help books to help yourself!

– Plus sneaky peeks at upcoming bargains!

Me and my poggies as featured on the promo for my new show 9pm Mondays in January – Xmas is over now it’s all about getting back to normal – the focus is on you! More info below…

HA 1 and 2Well as 2014 begins, I looked back and found there have been so many highlights from the last twelve months. I thought I’d bring you our official QVC ones in this blog – see below in ‘Watch’ for the clips, if you missed seeing them play out over New Year.

What a lovely year 2013 was for me! Highlights for me included publishing my first titles to Amazon – both Hawaiian Affair (which has now sold over 5500 copies) and the prequel Hawaiian Escape, which reached the top 500 Kindle chart in the UK within a day of its November release.

Plus, I presented some fab shows – Anything Goes back in
Debbie at weddingJan/Feb and Saturday Night Gifts with all of the wonderful guests.

And of course, most important of all, tons of fab family events – daughter Lauren moving back close by again, sister’s 50th, mum’s 70th, and – one of the best days of my life – my lovely first-born, son Brad, got married in October.

All in all for me it’s mostly been a wonderful year. We have had some rough times too, like my doggy illnesses and Gracie losing an eye (she’s ok now) but overall 2013 was just fine.

Deb’s ‘Year in Review’ on Facebook
How surprised was I to find a link to my ‘year on Facebook’ – a summary of highlights which automatically popped up! Some of the most commented-upon posts were featured, if you’re a Facebook friend, follow this link to see more. And if you’re not, do pop me a friend request (see the P.S. below).

Debbie year of Facebook

One of my resolutions is to keep on top of Facebook, as well as my blog, comment replies! I got right up to date over New Year fortunately! So do leave me a comment as they all get a response, 95% of the time!

‘BACK TO YOU’ (MONDAYS 9pm in January)
My new weekly show kicks off Monday night (6th) and I’m hoping you’ll join me – lots of people have said they’re after some inspiration. Well it’s going to be a gentle ‘all about me’ type theme each week, with some nice input from video interviews and also from you guys!

So be prepared to tweet in and tell me your own tips or feedback, won’t you? Here’s the promo that’s been running, to get you in the mood. Spot the choccie Labradors…

[Having trouble viewing this video? See YouTube's Help page

This week I’m going to focus on the topic of breaking bad habits and creating good ones! Hence the subjects in the book segment below. So I’d like to know –

Hot Topic – tell me which books or audio books you’ve used to help overcome your issues – comment at the bottom of this blog.

Top Tip – Bodyblade
Body bladeFirst TOP TIP for the new series is the Bodyblade (432954). For toning in the shortest time, I know nothing better. You may have seen me and Bruce raving about it over the New Year on the fitness shows, but watch this video to see exactly why it works – I love the ‘science bit’!

I have to say if you’re limited in budget and wanting to do something amazing to your fitness and toning levels this month, DO get this device. The chart and DVD are great too, plus YouTube has other helpful VT’s to watch.

The main thing for me is the small amount of time I need in order to get results – am doing it each day now and today for instance, I just did the vertical side-to-side one, and my pulse went up to 160 within a minute! Just shows you how cardio-vascular the exercise can be – or just do 20 seconds, or whatever you can manage, till you can build up to more.

Watch the full Bodyblade demo on QVC with myself and Bruce showing it live on air…

It’s honestly one of the most genius pieces of equipment you’ll ever use – hence including the science behind it – as it does look rather weird at first! Then you can get ‘back to you’ much faster.

Which ‘you’ do you want to get back to?
Debbie back to youNow there’s a question! As mentioned before Xmas, the ‘me’ I’d like to get ‘back’ to – shape wise anyway – is the one from around autumn 2000 – when I was doing lots of regular exercise and had just lost 35lb – (see Till the Fat Lady Slims book of the week below, for how.) Ideally I’d like to keep my boobs tho! Hehe! Still, let’s see what happens over the next four weeks!

Marlene’s Detox
As you’ll know if you’re a regular, I began macrobiotic eating in April 2012, and have more or less kept to it the majority of the time since then. No meat, dairy or alcohol (well, I didn’t really ever drink anyway) and have found it’s really helped my health. Read more on my Back to You Essay for this week which will be on the Facebook Group on Monday, or on my website debbieflint.com. Or see Marlene’s recommendations for a fab mineral broth to help detox. You can make it easily yourself too!

Yes, the time has come to tighten my routine again and begin a thorough detox/healthy eating three-week weight-loss plan. She gave me it as part of my week’s training, but if you’d like to get it, you can go here to find out more – www.marlenewatsontara.com – for Weight Loss Nature’s Way.

The lady is truly inspirational, I have to say, and I know that I can drop pounds easily when I adopt her system. Plus, if I incorporate my ‘Freedom Eating’ method below, it really works for me – but that’s just me, it might not work for you. However, the challenge is going to be how to do both at once! They’re rather mutually exclusive in some aspects, so read my weekly update to see what’s happened, and do join in on my own website to let me know how you’re doing!

Facebook Group – ‘Back to You QVC’ – for all of January 2014
Do join in each week! I’m going to have lots of links and tips as well – plus all about my own lifestyle and eating patterns, complete with a summary of what’s in the ‘book of the week’ below – read more about the new Facebook group ‘Back To You QVC’ and join it here.

So if you’re in need of a little boost and feeling a bit down, knowing you need to do something to up the ante, hopefully this little helping hand can contribute in some way! Keep me informed. And join me Monday nights in January on QVC UK at 9pm.

Meanwhile, here are some excellent books to help you on your way!

My weekly look at all things book…

(to see Debbie’s books on Amazon, go to bottom of this blog)

Book of the weekTill the Fat Lady Slims – No better time of year than now to feature some helpful stuff like these recommendations. And I’m always being asked about what I do, so here’s a little part of it.

This book features the techniques I used to lose 35lb a decade ago. It’s the original 2002 book, which is also available in eBook for Kindle; Kindle app; or in paperback on Amazon. It contains tips for eating like slim people do, how to behave around food and how not to: how to gain Food Freedom.

Having learned it from two QVC guests with their original product The Seven Secrets of Slim People, which they loosely based on ‘Diets Don’t Work’, I changed my eating habits completely.

Although I haven’t stuck to it like glue, some of the principles have stayed with me. Actually, I have never had another binge since adopting this more healthy relationship with food. I swear – considering some of the trials and tribulations I’ve been through in the years since then – I probably would have comfort-eaten my way to 20 stone had it not been for Freedom Eating. All is revealed in the book, and it’s semi-autobiographical too. It’s on eBook or paperback, click here to find out more.

Competition to win a copy each week in January, starting next week – to celebrate my new Monday night show, ‘Back to You’.

Inspirational Authors for ‘Back to You’ Resolution-time!
Wayne DyerThere are of course tons of other books around to help you get through this troublesome time of year, so please, if you’re down, don’t feel alone, dip in to some of these fab reads.

Often it’s not just about following some new diet or ‘having enough willpower’ – it’s about what lies beneath it all, stopping you from helping yourself and letting go of some of the issues which keep you stuck. I say this ‘cos I’ve read a lot of self-help books over the years and there are some truly life-changing ones out there. Try these –

‘Your Erroneous Zones – Escape Negative Thinking and Take Control of Your Life' by Wayne Dyer (pictured)

‘You Can Heal Your Life’ by Louise Hay – get the audio book if you can, she’s a fab speaker. So is Wayne.

‘Excuses Begone’ by Wayne Dyer – unveiling the ‘no more excuses’ approach to getting on with it.

‘The Biology of Belief’ by Dr Robert Lipton – a truly life-changing examination of what makes us tick.

These are ones which I’ve personally read and can whole-heartedly vouch for – seriously if you’re up for sorting your life out, do please try one – or all of them.

Anything you’d like to recommend? If so, why?

Hot Topic – tell me which books or audio books you’ve used to help overcome your issues – comment at the bottom of this blog.

RiWiSi-Go-Large – and if you’re an aspiring writer, this week on my extended weekly Friday book focus on my own website, there’s an absolutely brilliant guide to setting up an author platform, blogging etc from Bolstablog.

Tons of links as well as an excellent guide to indie publishing if you’re thinking of doing what so many of us have done – self-publishing. PLUS the latest update from me about my steamy download! (ooer missus!) Read more…

Still to come… all the 2013 highlights from QVC… sneaky peeks at Judith Williams and Ninja… and tea with Ingrid!

Two fab ones to kick off the New Year, from the last week or so! Including one from Simon and Kathy, up to mischief following a bloopers vid!

And from this week’s Thursday Beauty Fix with Ali Young, where Andrew Bagley from Gatineau got more than he bargained for!…

Come back every week for more funnies!

Jodie PrengerJodie’s NYD Fitness DVD Scores Highly in the Mail Online: if you missed it, I spent New Year’s Eve at midnight with the adorable Jodie Prenger (pron. ‘prenja’) and her fab DVD 'Jodie Prenger Fitness Blasts Weight Management', 400565.

Where some other celeb videos scored low, Jodie’s scored highly – 8/10 – well done missus! She was absolutely lovely – exactly the same as she is on air – and deserves every success! Read more here.

IngridTea with Ingrid Popped over to see Yong Kim guest, one of my faves, Ingrid Tarrant this week, fighting thru the floods on the way! She only lives 20 mins from me, but it took nearly 40 cos I had to avoid the humongous puddles near us in Surrey!

At one point, as I crept past puddles, the kerb disappeared below the water surface (by the Medicine Garden near Cobham) and I nearly turned back, but ploughed on, in my fortunately high-up, 4×4 car – tho’ I did come out in a sweat, before reaching the other side. Tons of bad roads about, tho’, so hope you haven’t been too hemmed in!

Happy DaysHappy Days are Here for Amy! As you may have heard me say on air when she was in this week, guesting the No-No, Amy Anzel's musical is about to open in Bromley, then tour the country! Stars include Cheryl Baker, the hunky Ben Freeman and Heidi Range from Sugababes.

It's from the director of 'Pretty Woman' and 'Beaches' and the songwriter who wrote: Bugsy Malone songs, Evergreen, and Rainy Days and Mondays! What a line up eh!?

Do go see it if you can – tickets are selling well, apparently, after all the publicity from ‘Sound of Musicals’ on Channel 4. If you watched the series, now see the show! Go here to find out more.

Old fashioned teaTea Set Takes me Back Look what’s been making my tea breaks tastier over xmas! My lovely mum had a clear out and gave this teapot-and-cups-part of her super-expensive crockery set to me, ‘cos she knows I’m a tea person!

When mum did family Christmases, she and my dear departed Dad collected all the individual bits of the Bouquet set from Royal Stafford. Sis got the rest, which is fair as we have our annual family Christmases at hers each year nowadays.

But it’s amazing how much lovelier it makes it, taking a break for tea and watching the boiling brew pour from this. Do you agree that what you drink out of makes a real difference to how good the tea tastes? Yes? Will you be mother?

Two fourTickets for New Cookery Show Saw this and thought I’d alert you to it! Just in case you’re near Hammersmith on these dates and fancy being in the audience for a new cookery show with Sue Perkins hosting!

Facebook funnyFacebook Funny – the wonderful thing about Tiggers! And me! Lol.

Quick Quiz – what’s the connection between the Bishop of Myra in the 4th Century, and Coca Cola? (No Googling!) Answer in the P.S. below…

WATCH – Boy did we catch up on catch-up TV over the break! I watched some fab films, including some of my all time favourites, 'A Few Good Men' and 'Frequency' (both 9/10), plus 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks' (Brad’s childhood fave, I give it 8.5), as well as 'Iron Man 3' – which got a high 8.5 too.

But I thought I’d bring you the round up of the QVC Highlights videos from 2013, which played out over New Year’s. For those of you who missed them, or those who wish to relive them once more, here they are – including funnies, emotional nights (Breast Cancer Care night), and some of the star guests’ moments on QVC UK over the last twelve months. Enjoy!

Best moments of the year (topped off with an on-air proposal!)

Breast Cancer Care night

Bird feed - 504420– Also on Monday – Richard Jackson’s first TSV of 2014 – and it’s all about the birds! Join Craig for the midnight launch Sunday night, and if there’s any left it’ll also be on my 9pm show Monday.

– Plus, sleeping right on Tuesday with a memory foam mattress TSV, Strivectin is finally here Wed (see sneaky peek a few weeks ago) plus clean up with Oreck on Thursday.

Daniel Sandler– Finally, make-up king, Daniel Sandler is back with his wonderful cosmetics Thursday 9th at 1pm.

Thanks for reading this week’s tome! Don’t forget this week’s Hot Topic – tell me which books or audio books you’ve used to help overcome your issues (comment at the bottom of this blog)

Next Week – what happened on the first ever Back to You? Don’t forget – 9pm Mondays in January!

Best wishes
Luv Debs X

P.S. – Quick Quiz answer – The Bishop of Myra from the 4th Century is believed to have been St Nicholas, and wore a red robe. It’s he who is believed to have inspired the Red Father Christmas figure we know today, not merely the Coca Cola version, which began in the 1930’s and added the belt and the round belly! Read more here.

P.P.S. – ‘whose legs?’ Last week’s blog showed a pic of some ‘interesting’ socks on some rather muscley calves! They belonged to none other than our IT Guy, Lee Hohbein! It’s all that gym work!

Brilliant blog as usual and nice to read the roundup of the last year.
I always look forward to your blogs as they are fun filled, informative and easy to read.
Here’s hoping that 2014 will enable you to keep being your bubbly self and to keep bringing us all the useful advice and stories within your blogs.
    Happy New Year.

Well Debbie just goes to show its never too late for something new. I have just read your blog and looked at the videos and I must say I am not surprised that you have written books. Your way with words is great and I feel now I must buy your books. What is the title of your first book?
I was 75 on lst December and I am still a romantic, although I do
like a good thriller/murder story. And yes, I have read that
famous trilogy – quite by accident as my Son brought it home from
his place of work as one of his colleagues said quote “your Mum might like to read this” (book 1). The following night in came (book 2) and so on what a surprise it all was !! Unfortunately I cannot tweet you as I do not have either an iphone or tablet (would really love one – maybe later in the year. Well done Debs. I also love your “naughty sounding laugh”. Finally may I ask how is Anneka (model) getting along. I do hope she is well.

I watched the show last night and found it to be really motivational. You have a great gift of clear communication Debbie and the energy and enthusiasm you bring is infectious. I am hoping that with the positive messages given I will be successful in achieving my goals of doing more exercise and improving my diet.
I have been feeling very low recently and I find your new show to be the tonic I need.
    Thank you

Regarding your show last night I really enjoyed it it went too quickly, Debbie you won’t believe this but I have a Pilates machine and a leg master still in there boxes, also a body blade which you advised be to do for just 10 seconds and build it up gradually as I have ME/CFS, I am now reading your book when the fat lady slims, and am determined to lose weight this year and be able to use my other machines.
Thanks for a great show can’t wait till next week.
