He’s back!

Butler & Wilson Couture Crystal Art Deco thick chain necklace - 302621Some days I really look forward to going in to work and today is one of them. Not only is it Jewellery Day on QVC with everything on three easy pays but Simon Wilson is back for the first Butler & Wilson jewellery shows of the year.

By the time you read this he will have had his afternoon show but please join us for the Couture show at 9pm. I can’t wait to hear all his news and find out what he has planned for this year…he has a VERY big birthday in August but I couldn’t possibly divulge which one!

I’m also on with the lovely Ralph again and then I have Epiphany Clad Diamonique at 11pm…what a lovely shift to look forward to.

Wilfy sunbathingThe timing couldn’t be better for this year’s Jewellery Day as next Friday is Valentine’s Day so just enough time to treat your special lady to something sparkly. I wonder if you have anything special planned for next Friday?

I had some time booked off work so Chris and I have booked a few days away in Spain…anything to escape this seemingly incessant rain, although as I type the sun is streaming through the windows and not for the first time this week. It really does lift the spirits and apparently Wilfy enjoys it too. He suddenly seems to have grown huge and he is not yet six months…you don’t think he is actually a black panther do you ?!?!?

We have managed to get quite a lot sorted on the house this week. Thankfully it had stayed dry most of last weekend so the guys were able to come and finish the drive on Monday…nice job! We had the chimney man come to see if our chimney needed sweeping prior to lighting any fires and also to pop a ‘hat’ on the top so that no birds can fly down it, as happened twice at the house before last.

We also had the locksmith round to fit new locks (better to be safe than sorry) and Daniel and I went to look at some ‘Garden Rooms’ as we are planning on having one at the bottom of the garden to house my gym equipment.

Speaking of which I finally managed to clear some space in the spare room to set up my Pilates machine, which I went on yesterday for the first time this year! I have a show with Marjolein on the 20th February so I thought I had better attempt to get myself back in shape…one of my five New Year’s resolutions.

Swim 4 Leukaemia World RecordI also haven’t managed to go swimming lately but I did want to mention a new world record set by the swim 4 leukaemia team last Saturday. They were raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, one of QVC’s chosen charities this year. Well done to all who swam, particularly James Crisp who very kindly helped out with my little gala last year. I think you can still donate if you would like to at swim4leukaemia.

Of course QVC’s main charity down the years is Breast Cancer Care. You may well have read Chloe’s latest blog about her breast cancer scare. I had a very similar thing happen to me nine years ago except that I didn’t have a noticeable lump. I had gone along for a mammogram because my sister had just been diagnosed with breast cancer five years after my mum so my doctor thought it would be prudent even though I wasn’t showing any symptoms and I wasn’t yet fifty at the time.

Like Chloe I was called back after waiting for the mammogram results and had to have an ultrasound scan as they thought they could see something. This proved inconclusive so they did a needle biopsy there and then. It’s all a bit frightening when you think you are just going for the result of a test and you end up going home bruised and bandaged. Fortunately the small growth they found was non malignant, again like Chloe, but it underlined the importance of self examination and going for breast health checks when recommended to by your doctor. So pleased it was good news for her.

Kim & Co - 114440Well I must stop now as I have some different writing to get on with – yes I’ve finally got the ‘baby’  laptop out to pick up where I left off with my new book before the panic of house-hunting stole all my time! Hopefully I’ll be able to get plenty done while I’m off from QVC after launching the Kim & Co TSV Sunday midnight.

Hope to see you there!

Much love,
Julia xx

    Hey Julia ,
Just read your last 2 blogs – So happy to read that all your results
were good and that your h.g.bin is coming up – as you say that will definately feel a benefit from that :o)
Was looking at your pic of Wilfie and he reminds me of one of my previous cats Spud – my Husband Mark and I were just looking at Simbi all stretched out in front of the fire tonight – he’s really quite long prob about 2 1/2 feet when stretching – he did hav big paws when he was a kitten – did Wilfy ? If Simbi gets any bigger I think we’ll buy a saddle and enter him in the Grand National , lol !
Am v jealous ( only kidding ) of you , looking for a garden room for the garden – I’ve always fancied one of them to use as a craft studio – shouldn’t moan as we do have a spare room I could use , just needs lots of organising and decorating – lots to get done before that I’m afraid – just v frustrating with my ME that I can’t really do anything towards things , but I know that in the grand scheme of things I’m not so bad :o)
Just going to watch your B & W couture show that I recorded / stored lol ! My sleep schedule is away to pot with my M E.
Glad your feeling better , lotsa luv , Dawn xxx.

    Hi Julia
Yes you are right Wilfy does look like a young black panther it is those eyes in the picture of him stretched out.I missed Simons show last night, I was thinking it was on tonight. I am glad you are going to get some time away with Chris, nice and warm and relaxing I hope. Roll on spring. I am so glad Chloe is okay, must be an awful thing to have to go through. Sounds as if it has been all go at your new house, it will be so nice to have it all done. Goood luck with your writing and exercising. Have a lovely break

Hi Julia, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I do have three feliway plug ins in different rooms of the house,I also enlisted the help of an animal behaviourist and we just have to take things at Poppys’s pace but hopefully with time and lots of patience it will work itself out and they can find a way of co-existing.I would also like to take the opportunity to say how enjoyable it is to tune in to qvc when you are presenting,I always find you give a true and accurate description of the products on air and can buy with confidence. As with a lot of other viewers my favourite shows are Butler and Wilson when you are presenting with Simon.Good to hear you are doing well with your blood results, long may it continue.Enjoy your holiday Julia and I look forward to tuning in to more of your shows.

    Hi Julia
Hope you get well soon, plenty of vit c and all that, plus your lovely break in the sun will do you the world of good, in the meantime snuggle up with Poppy and Wilfy, he looks well chilled on your sofa.
Although, could be the after effects of your move. I know there was one day when both Chris and I felt awful, as if we’d had the stuffing knocked out of us, really run down.
Glad to hear you’ve managed to find a space for your pilates machine for the time being…I won’t be on mine anytime soon, managed to crick my neck, so sat here typing with one of those neck wraps you put in the microwave wrapped round, couldn’t even wash and dry my hair today…Ken Dodd comes to mind lol!!!
The new furniture and bed especially are fab, we bought a lovely oak bedframe for the mattress to go on and I had previously bought some deep red bedding (red and gold are my favourite colours together), but wasn’t sure about it to be honest, however it looks absolutely gorgeous, different to what I expected. Goes to show, it may not of had ‘hanger appeal’, as they say, but once on…
Have you been watching Dancing on Ice and Mr Selfridge?
Hope you feel much better soon to enjoy your hols
    Annette xx

    Hi Julia,
I’m delighted to hear that Chloe is ok – you are extremely considerate and always think of others.
Just seen your Tweets referring to not feeling too good – my advice as always, please rest and hope the flu goes away soon.
Glad to hear too that things are continuing to get sorted in your new home – it must be lovely to get things how you want them and a Garden Room sounds a great idea – they often feature on “Escape to the Country” and if you’ve got the space, go for it!
All the best to you as always, Wilfy just looks more and more adorable by the day and last but not least, wishing you and Chris a fab holiday,
    Beth XXX.

    Hi Julia,
I’m sure you won’t remember me, but we used to communicate by letter many years ago (1993…) when I lived in the UK!!
I lived in Ipswich & we compared notes on football (our team were much better then!!) as well as QVC!! I had just been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis & being at home I spent many happy hours (& £s!) watching QVC.
Since then we’ve…bought an apartment in Goa, where we were spending the Winter months, but my RA was worse on returning to the UK….so
We decided to sell up & we moved to Spain in 2002! I’ve been somewhat limited to which TV channels we can get. But I now own an iPad & can watch QVC wherever I am!!!
I’ve opened up a Twitter account & you’re the first person that I’m following so far. But I see that Alison & Debbie are still at QVC.
I see you’re a Pilates fan!..I had to have a disc removed whilst we were in Goa 6 years ago (quite a n experience!!) & I’ve now got another one that has herniated, but it ‘moves around! I’ve been going to a Yogalates (Yoga & Pilates) class twice a week & it has definately helped to strengthen my core & all of my muscles, thus protecting my back!! Not only that, it has also helps my joints as well, which is a bonus!!
I’m so sorry to read of all your health problems, but well done you for getting through it all so positively. You’re a real inspiration…& you’ve written a book as well, Congratulations!!
Good Luck to you & Chris in your new home & feel better soon.
    Luv, Sue x

    Hi Dawn
Sorry I didn’t get around to doing any replies before my time off – intended to on the Sunday but then I felt poorly so wasn’t able to go into QVC. I thought I was heading for the flu and wasn’t sure I would be able to go to Spain but fortunately the warmer wether picked me up a bit.
We haven’t ordered the garden room yet as we will probably need planning permission but it will be good to get the gym equipment out of he house – I think I will use it more often too f I’m not having to get things out and put them away again.
Wilfie had his castration operation yesterday – I was expecting him to be all sleepy after it but he was quite the opposite …. very skittish!! He was also weighed and is now 2.75kg …. huge!
Hope you enjoyed the B&W Couture show when you got round to watching it.

    Hi Carole
So glad you enjoyed watching Jewellery Day and were able to treat yourself to a couple of pieces. I thoroughly enjoyed my three hours.
Spain was just what Chris and I needed after the stress of finding a house and moving in such a short space of time – just 7 weeks from viewing to moving with Christmas & New Year in the middle …. madness! We were very lucky with the weather in Spain too, sunny every day apart from one of sun and cloud.
    Back to work on Thursday

    Hello Jean
We had a lovely break in Spain thanks, nice warm sunshine apart from one day of sunshine and cloud so I took the opportunity to write three chapters of my new book. I also managed to go swimming twice and I’m about to do a Pilates workout when I finish my blog replies in preparation for Thursday’s show.
    Speak soon

Sorry to hear that the Felliway plugs have’t worked too well so far – as you say it will probably just ate time.

    Hello Anita
We had a lovely break thanks – we needed it after stresses of the house move – and we ad some nice warm sunshine.
Like you we have been lucky not to be affected by the floods by they have been quite close – Egham is just a couple of miles down the road from our new house and where our daughter went to university and they have been badly hit. Let’s hope the incessant rain is over.

    Hi Annette
You may just have been right about the whole move catching up on me. I wasn’t sure I would be able to go to Spain cos I felt so rough last Sunday & Monday and I was convinced I was coming down with the flu, but we got on the flight Tuesday and I started to feel better almost as soon as we touched down.
We had really good weather, never guaranteed in Spain in February, and I managed to do some writing and got some swimming in too.
Yes I have been watching Dancing on Ice ( so sad it’s the last series) and Mr. Selfridge. Dan had recorded them both for me so we watched them last night.
Sorry to hear you are in the wars again
    Speak soon

    Hello Beth
I’m pleased to say the flu didn’t really develop and the moment we got to the hotel in Spain I started to feel better – maybe my body was just ready for a rest as I hadn’t had any time off since sat September and we’ve had a lot going on. I’m back at work on Thursday but I have some more time booked off towards the end of March … taking your advice you see.
We haven’t got a big garden but there is space at the bottom behind a silver birch tree that will do nicely for a garden room – just need to get it ordered now.
Wilfie had his castration yesterday – just trying to be a responsible owner but I did feel a little guilty that he’ll never be a daddy … he is fine today.
    Speak soon

    Hi Sue
How are you?? You speak for yourself when you say our teams were better then … Crystal Palace aren’t doing so bad in the Premiership this season – better than most people expected I’m sure! Gosh a lot of water under the bridge in the last 20 years and you’ve moved around a bit? Whereabouts in Spain are you? We used to have a house in Javea until July 2012 – we still like to visit cos we love it.
Did you know Debs Flint left and came back? But Ali Young has been here all along, as has Jilly Halliday.
I’ve never really tried yoga although I’ve often fancied it, but I do love my Pilates – my first show back on Thursday at 6pm.
Yes my book, One Hundred Lengths of the Pool, was published almost a year ago – we had it exclusively on QVC for the first few months but now available on Amazon as a hardback or Kindle. I was really pleased with the job Random House did particularly as they didn’t really change anything – so love it or hate it it was all my own work.
Lovely to hear from you again and do keep in touch on here
    Julia x

    Hi Julia,
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me, it was great to hear from you.Trust me I WAS speaking about Ipswich playing better all those years ago!! Palace literally are leagues ahead!!!
Yes I knew Debbie had returned to QVC & also Alison & Jilly are still there ….& none of you look any older!
I used to really enjoy the beauty hours with Alison especially if you were presenting alongside her.
Also the Diamonique hours, I collected many pieces over the years & was gutted 3years ago when we were burgled & they stole, amongst other things, my jewellery, including all of my 27 rings!! Individually they all meant something to me & many of them have been discontinued. We were at home eating outside, so I guess it was a good thing we didn’t disturb them & end up being attacked.
We live in between Alicante & Murcia in a small town called Benijofar. So further South than Javier. How long did you have your place for?
How is your book coming along? It must be difficult finding the time!! You always seem so busy, especially working different hours at QVC.
Have you emptied all of your boxes?..I think I’ve still got some only half emptied after all this time!!!Spanish houses aren’t built for storage!!!..well not all of my storage anyway!!!
Take care Julia & keep well,
    Sue x
