Welcome to British summer time! We’re here, it’s finally and officially the start of summer and something us Brits really celebrate and anticipate. Just the thought of it makes us happy and think about all things sunny days, holidays, picnics, BBQ’s, weddings and brighter, fresher, longer days.
The thing is, I’ve harped on all winter about the fact the summer bodies are made in the winter and spring and I’m not much further down the line myself. So how do we present the best versions of ourselves for summer?
Step One: Move more! Exercise!
Whether it’s walking, stretching or swimming, let’s get moving, even if that’s dancing to your favourite song whilst cleaning.
Step Two: Eat Clean.
Detox a little. By removing the chemicals, additives, preservative and toxins, we allow the body and all its organs (including the skin) to work at optimal levels. So think fresh fruit and vegetables, paleo-style nutrition, less packets and pre-made options from jars and sachets, and choose more natural options. We all should be doing this so let’s opt for home cooked from now on and even kick-start a day with a lovely smoothie.
Step Three: Drink more water!
A simple one but in a busy day this is easy to overlook. Try to have two to three litres a day, and more if you’re exercising or it’s warm! Every organ in your body and even your brain will thank you.
Step Four: Sleep hygiene.
Have a regular bed time, steer clear of blue screens, so turn off those phones and TV’s and get into a routine. We should feel rested not restless after sleep, waking up refreshed, lively and full of energy. Think about drinking calming herbal teas before bed and using sleep aid products from This Works (such as this Deep Sleep Heroes Collection), which really helps.
Step Five: Be kind, be positive and be happy.
Take a deep breath in, pause, try to switch your state into a positive one because life is always better if we can. Try to be kind even if people aren’t kind to you, focus on positives and find something to laugh or smile about. If you can’t do any of these then fake it until you make it!
Step Six: Laugh more!
They say laughter is the best cure and I have to agree, even on the darkest days there can be light. Find something that makes you laugh because there’s humour in most things and remember sometimes if you don’t laugh, you cry (and that’s okay too)!
One of the fashion guests Glenn Campbell, who represents Centigrade and also Denim & Co., always tells me that every morning he wakes up, he looks in the mirror and reminds himself to be the best possible version or himself! I think we can all take a leaf out of his book.
What’s happening at QVC then? Well plenty, certainly if you want to put your best face forward, I’ve got some bits you may like to try.
Our Beauty Pick of the Month for April is brought to us by the Swiss suncare powerhouse that is Ultrasun and it focused around anti-pigmentation, one of the key signs of ageing and sun damage.
We love the sun but it’s not good for our skin health, so let’s enjoy it in a safe way with this. As Abbey Cleeve from Ultrasun says, it’s not just about using this on sunny days or holidays, it’s for every day. Use this every morning after cleansing and toning.
It has a lightweight formula with a slight honey tint that dries down to a lovely matte finish, so is perfect as a primer for make-up too. Anyone serious about anti-ageing should have this in their artillery. Take advantage at the moment whilst it’s in interest-free instalments (Easy Pay) and on no postage and packaging.
Also keep an eye out for the Laura Geller Today’s Special Value this Sunday (the 7th), because if you want the look of a sun-kissed glow on the skin then this Five-Piece Sun Catcher Make-Up Collection is awesome.
It features one of my favourite multi-taskers of the brand, the Baked Body Frosting in Tahitian Glow:
It can be used all over the body and on the face, it’s the perfect shade for most and gives us the glow without the damage of the sun. The collection is also available on presell before Sunday if you want to secure yours ahead of time.
So let’s all have a go at putting our best face forward. Lots of the time if we look good, we feel good and it gives us confidence. I’ll be on QVC all weekend mornings with lots of fashion and beauty so tune in and join me.
Until then, let’s all try to smile more!
