Hassle-free sun fun

Hello, and thank you for stopping by to read my blog. This week I’ve chosen to write about beauty in Lausanne, and fun in the sun!

It’s seems appropriate to start with fun in the sun! This could be in the UK or abroad. In Lausanne they have winter and summer at the same time at the moment! There was still snow on the mountains but it was hot by Lake Geneva.Lake Geneva

With the weather being so incredible and the bank holiday just gone, we have very quickly turned the summer corner. I’ve found myself being very conscious about my skin. Now, if I am super duper honest I haven’t always been the first person to reach for Factor 20 and I’m slightly ashamed (Abi Cleeve, cover your ears!) to admit that I used to splash on very low factor oil and sit out for hours! But here is the interesting thing, I never really kept the tan and more often than not after hours of me and my best mate Ruby timing our tanning times – 20 mins on one side then in military-like fashion 20 mins on the other and then repeat – I would often find my skin felt really hot and although eventually I’d go brown it felt tight and patchy in colour. I’d also spend a fortune on various different factors plus with all the reapplying needed throughout the day, tanning was a faff!

About two years ago, after I started working at QVC, I met Abi who introduced me to Ultrasun. When she explained to me how UV rays work and the benefits of using a higher factor that would protect my skin and achieve a better tan, then I really started to listen and take the seriousness of sun skincare on board. I’m going to share a little excerpt with you and if you find it interesting then I’d encourage you to read on by clicking the link I’ve inserted.

How should you apply sun screen?
Always apply sun protection to cool, clean, dry skin in the shade (ideally indoors) 15 – 30 minutes before you go into the sun. It’s important that this step is followed regardless of what suncream brand you choose as if applied in direct sunlight, suncream applied to skin can evaporate before it has a chance to bond with the skin and therefore becomes less effective. You are more likely to miss bits if you are rushed for time. However, as Ultrasun is a once-a-day product you can most definitely afford to be lavish!
Also, ensure you apply enough sun cream to your body. The official guidelines given by Colipa (Association of European Cosmetic Industry) are 2mg/cm2 – this approximately corresponds to one teaspoon-worth for the face).

Other sun safety considerations…

• Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm when it is at its strongest and risk of skin damage is high. Take plenty of shade at this time and remember to drink plenty of water to avoid the risk of dehydration
• Beware of the reflection factor–water, concrete, sand, snow etc. can intensify the radiation by up to 85%
• Skin that is not used to the sun is less able to protect itself. Under the influence of UV rays, the skin begins to thicken and starts producing melanin. These processes take 10-20 days to take place, so use extra protection while your skin is adjusting to the sun

In my family there has been skin cancer and skin cancer scares. These days I’m vigilant about skincare in the sun and I always use Ultrasun now. Some of my favourites are the lip balm (which I have in almost all handbags) and I use SPF 30 under my eyes (think of all that squinting in the sun. Poor eyes!) and the Tinted Face Moisturiser is great as it doubles up as a light make-up cover and once I’ve put it on in the morning that’s it, I don’t need to worry about getting a red nose or forehead or sensitive skin under my eyes for the rest of the day.

I sent this pic to my best friend the other day:

It’s part of our little sunning holiday pack for when we go visit my Mum in France in June! I knew she would get excited as these days we don’t do oil, we do Glimmer SPF 20 and get the best tan we have EVER had.

If you have any concerns about pigmentation of your face or hands then the anti-pigmentation cream is very effective. I am genuinely really pleased to share my story with you and hope for those who haven’t tried it will give it ago.

In fact this week’s Big Deal is a great way to try Ultrasun at a much lower price.

I mentioned Lausanne at the beginning of my blog as I wanted to share a few pictures of its beauty. Have a look at these mountains.

Then I found my two favourite modes of transport. It was hard to choose which one… haha!Lake Geneva

They also have the Olympic gardens which are so peaceful and stunningly beautiful. It was my dream place to walk around with stunning views, carefully sculpted bronze figures and views to sit and watch for hours. Here are few of the ones I loved.

On that note I’m going finish this up and leave you with a two more goodies we have.

Stripes and spots are always a winner and now you have a choice from Joules with this Big Deal offer.

Plus, as BBQ time is here, having kitchen help in the form of this new friend could save you a lot of time. I’m just starting get back in to smoothies and homemade hummus and tasty healthy dips to eat with lots of tortilla chips!

Take care of yourselves and see you very soon.

That’s very interesting, especially about putting sun cream on 15-30 minutes before going out in the sun. Thanks for the tips x
