Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine's CardsWell although I'm away for a few days, I couldn't miss wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day.

I feel kind of guilty mentioning that it is a beautiful sunny morning here in Javea, Spain, particularly with all the dreadful rain we've been experiencing in the UK. Our new house is only five minutes drive away from the devastating floods in Egham and my heart goes out to you if you've been affected.

Writing on holidaySpeaking of hearts, Chris and I exchanged cards this morning…he never signs his with his name…does your other half? He also gave me little chocolate teddy and some chocolate hearts, which we'll share later if they haven't melted.

It has been lovely to relax and enjoy sitting outside in the late evening, sipping a cappuccino and listening the waves albeit wrapped up in my quilted Centigrade coat! I have also managed to do some more writing for my novel – three chapters yesterday when the weather was a bit mixed. And I have had a couple more ideas for books – amazing how creative you can be when you have the time.

Thanks for your messages on last week's blog…I will do all my replies when I'm back in the UK on Monday…did I see snow forecast for next week?? Brrrrrrrr!

See you on Thursday for my first show back which just happens to be Pilates … yay!

Keep safe and dry if you can.

Much love,

Julia xx

You have been busy with your novel, do you find that writing is relaxing. Glad you are feeling better now, as you were feeling rather poorly before you went away.

    Hi Julia,
You are so lucky to escape the terrible weather. We are fortunate here in my neck of the woods (South Wales) as we’ve not had much flooding . It was rather windy yesterday. We were on our way to Porthcawl but decided to turn back as it was so windy. On the way home we narrowly missed the path of a fallen tree! The wind was that strong . It was frightening- if we had been a few minutes sooner going home who knows what would have happened. I feel so sorry for people who have had their homes flooded. Hopefully it can’t go on for much longer. Spring should hopefully be around the corner.
Best wishes, especially to those going through such hardships . It has seemed never ending!

Hi Julia, I’m glad you got to escape this awful weather and fly off to Spain, hope you had a good rest. We live in a village on the Thames, which is very flooded at the moment, and we are now famous and on the BBC news!!!! Luckily our house is on a steep hill above the village, but I can see all the flooding all the way to Maidenhead. I think Boulters lock resturant is now under water!! Some of the streets that are not even close to the main river are flooded as the water is just coming out of the ground below, even Enid Blytons old thatch cottage, under water and ruined, such a shame.I usually food shop on line ‘man with a van’ but we have been cut off by the floods, all roads are now lakes!! Lets hope this all ends soon, or I will have to invest in a small boat. Love Yvie xx

    Hi Julia,
It sounds wonderful falling asleep to the sound of the waves! I am glad you both had a wonderful time. I am fascinated by water and most of my best holidays have been either by the ocean, sea, lakes or waterfalls – you name it, if there’s water I’m there!
How romantic to be away on Valentine’s – the day came and went but my Birthday is shortly after so Ian spoilt me then!
You take care and glad to hear the writing is coming along,
    Beth XX.

    Hi Heather
Yes we both needed a rest after the rush of finding a house before our tenancy ran out!! We were lucky with the weather …. never a given in Spain in February. And I managed to get some writing done and swim too – all in all a perfect 5 day break.

    Hi Pauline
It sounds like you could do with a few days break yourself. My mum is still suffering the after effects of the shingles – really nasty virus. Hope Dave is ok and that you are feeling better soon.
I’m feeling well at the moment …. so different from this time last year.

    Hi Tina
Sounds like you had a very lucky escape. We expected to come home to some trees down as our son said it had been very windy.
You might be interested to know that Andrew Bagley (Gatineau) is taking part in a charity rugby match on Friday at the Stoop …. I’ll try and put the link to his Just Giving page on my blog this week.

    Hi Yvie
Sorry to hear you have been cut off by the floods but at least you are on slightly higher ground. I’ve always made a point of living in houses on a hill but with the recent heavy rain the ground is so totally sodden that no-one is safe.
My friend Denise will be very upset to hear about Boulter’s Lock restaurant being flooded …. it is her favourite.
I’m liking living in a Royal borough so far btw.
    Good to hear from you

    Hello Beth
Happy belated Birthday and glad to hear Ian spoilt you!
It was lovely falling asleep to the sound of the waves although someone did comment on twitter that they thought I was insensitive for mentioning it. That obviously wasn’t my intention …. sometimes it feels like you can’t say anything without upsetting somebody. I also love water although rivers scare me a little. When I was a small child I used to open my bedroom window during a heavy downpour and let the rain drench my hands and arms ….. yes, I’ve always been a bit weird!

Hello Julia, have just read that Wilfy has had his operation well my Charlie had his yesterday, it was more complicated as one of his “bits” was retained but thankfully not as bad as it could have been he has one stitch but he was so glad to be home, and this morning is back to his normal self and eating well making up for the last day or so

    Hi Julia,
I don’t think you’re weird at all! I’m eccentric and proud of it!
I have to say I worried about my earlier reply re the water comments – I am a born worrier – but we can only mention things as we see them. Every time I see footage of people with their homes ruined, I am sure you are like me and can only sympathise and wish those people the help and strength from others to get through their ordeal. *But how others can break into the flooded homes and then steal is beyond my comprehension*
You take care and keep being you, Beth XX.
