Happy New Year! 2017 is here!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Ours was nonstop with lots of day trips visiting family and friends but Christmas Day itself was at home, where our day together was simply lovely. I was in charge of lunch this year and it went really well until it was time to serve up the pigs in blankets… which I’d duly forgotten to put in the oven! Really annoying – they’re a highlight of Christmas lunch for me! Never mind – everything else went pretty well and our Cairns enjoyed their Christmas dinner too!

Dad was thrilled to receive his Amazon Fire Tablet. I set it up for him, connected it to his Wi-Fi and he was away! He’s been sending emails, playing his favourite apps and using Skype as well… although a little more training is in order!

Dad needs guidance in framing himself to be clearly seen when having a video chat… It was so funny! Up a bit, no that’s too much, now left a bit! Skype, or FaceTime, is just brilliant. Dad recently had a hip operation and although it’s great to chat by phone it’s even better to see him in person, even if it is just the top of his head right now!

For so many a terribly sad end to 2016. The loss of Carrie Fisher, her Mum a day later and of course George Michael, who now reside among some of the biggest names in entertainment who passed away last year.

I was especially moved by the passing of George Michael. His passing reminded me of the sadness I felt when Freddie Mercury died in November 1991.

I struggle to pick a favourite of George’s songs to share with you. There are so many and depending on my mood, how I’m feeling and time of day will steer me towards a certain track of his.

There is though one particular song which I do have a special connection with. A song which you don’t often hear on the radio but I played it often when presenting late night radio. It sat so beautifully with that time of day – George Michael and Heal the Pain.

As we head into the New Year it’s lovely to think the evenings will soon be getting that little bit lighter. Warmer weather will return (fingers crossed) and trees will start to blossom. Having said that I do love winter, I enjoy the crisp cold sunshine with bright blue skies and a beautiful five-mile walk ahead of me.

The QVC schedule has also got off to a flying start for 2017 with some incredible shows underway and more to follow. I’m really thrilled to have been invited to launch the Alpha-H Today’s Special Value. I’ll be in the company of Michelle and Tom when we launch the Alpha-H three-piece Liquid Gold Head-to-Toe Resurfacing Collection. It’s a truly fabulous offer and I hope you can join the three of us on Tuesday 10th January at 12 midnight.

Until then I have a feeling there are one or two mince pies lurking around the kitchen waiting to be eaten… by me!

Take care and see you soon.

Lovely Charlie you felt almost the same as me with the death of George Michael. The death of Freddie Mercury, I have never got over and listen to his music daily. A mutual respect for both.

Hi Jilly and thank you for your message. It’s amazing how we are all touched in different ways by music. I still can’t quite believe he is no longer with us.

Beautifully put by you… The gift of his music will certainly live on.

    Warm regards
