Happy Mother’s Day!

Julia's MumIt's Mother's Day this coming Sunday, and I just wanted to wish all Mums a very happy day.

As I'm working I won't be able to visit my Mum in Nottinghamshire but I'm sure we'll have a nice long chat on the phone. I have just been choosing the flowers for both my Mum and Chris' Mum. I have chosen pinks and purples for my Mum (now you know where I get it from) and a spring selection in a creamy coloured, old-fashioned bucket for Audrey, Chris' Mum.

I'm hoping I will be able to visit Mum this coming week as she hasn't been feeling too well lately. I do wish she lived nearer so that I could just pop in whenever I wanted as I miss seeing her. I carry her picture with me all the time though – she was just three years old when this photo was taken. Apologies for the quality, but it was taken eighty two years ago!!!!!

Fortunately I will be able to spend a little time with my own two offspring before work on Sunday. We collected Sophie from the airport this morning just before seven, so I have spent the morning hearing all about her trip to Australia and looking at her photos. I may post a couple next week once she has transferred them on to her computer!

One of her stories did have me a little concerned. She didn't have good weather but their guide had persevered with a trip to the Blue Mountains anyway. It was raining heavily and as she climbed a narrow path, one foot slid towards the edge of the cliff and the other slid in the opposite direction. There was nothing to hang on to so she just had to stay as still as possible until the guide 'rescued' her! It's a good job I didn't know about it at the time!

She has gone for a nap which I must confess I was contemplating doing, but no time, I have cakes and soup to make before I leave for work. I'll see you at five for Lotus Shoes and then the two hour finale of the Elemis Series at 8pm with Keeley… can't wait!

Much love, Julia xx

    Hi Julia
Nice to hear Sophie got home safely. Please put some pictures up Julia of Australia next week I for one would love to see them, I really enjoyed the Blue Mountains too especially the cable car!!
I have banned myself from watching any more Lotus shoe shows I have already bought 3 pairs so if I
catch your show at five my hands will be tied behind my back- spent up!!!! lol
Have a lovely Mother’s Day sorry you can’t be with your mum on the day. The little photo of your mum is gorgeous. I have a very old black and white photo of my mum when she was a little girl she is sat next to a grey hound which my granddad used to race many years ago, I keep it in my purse makes me feel safe, silly really I know but mum’s are precious.
    Best wishes

Happy Mother’s Day to you Julia-glad Sophie is home again-her “slip” reminded me of the end of The Italian Job film—where the coach was balanced precariously on the edge of the hill/mountain!!!!Phew! My mum is 83 now and my dad 86-both living at home(mum doing everything-of course). My mum becomes someone I admire the older she gets—the war children have been a fab generation and I must admit I spend a lot of time dreading the inevitable in the future as I do not know how I can possibly cope without my mum at the end of the phone(5 hours away since I was 22—and I am clinging onto my 3 as long as possible–all live very close to date)-I share those feelings of ‘wishing I could pop round for a quick chat’-with you completely. Anyway-live for now and have a good week ahead. Love, K.XXX

    Hi Julia,
Ahh the photo of your mum is lovely, you must cherish it. I lost my mum 3 years ago at the ripe old age of 93, she was never still always gardening or doing something. I miss her dearly especially as i’m getting married soon, i know she would love my partner Ian as much as i do,and i will be thinking off her on my wedding day.Sophie sounds like she loved Australia,i do have relatives on my mums side in the Melbourne aera,we have planned to visit one day, but we want to go for at least 4/5 weeks so a bit more saving i think, but i have been told it will be before i’m 60. lol. But that’s not far away is it .Looking forward to the Elemis show later.Have a nice day on sunday.

    Hi Julia,
Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your show tonight at 8pm, your such a natural and sincere person, it was a good girlie hour, even though I didn’t buy anything (not like me). your hair is looking so soft and lovely, I was wondering what you are using at the moment. My 16 year old grandaughter has very thick frizy curly hair, which she hates, can you recomend anything she could try. Thanks Julia.
    Kind Regards, Bee x x

    Hi Julia,
Just read your blog regarding mothers day and it really brought a lump to my throat about how you wish your mum lived nearer you.
I get so sad on mothers day as I lost my mother when I was 12 years old and even though it’s neally 44 years since she died I still miss her and think of her neally every day. You are so fortunate to have your mum still and know it must be a worry when you can’t be on hand when she isn’t well. You only get one mum and mine was so brave and courageous as she battled breast cancer. I would just like to wish my mum “happy mothers day, I love and miss you always..”
And to everyone else, treasure your mothers and look after them.

    Hi Julia,
Glad to hear Sophie got home safely. Sounds as if she had a scary moment up on the mountain, I think it is a good thing we dont know about these sort of things at the time as we would be worried sick. Looking forward to seeing some photographs. Talking about photographs lovely photo of your Mum. Hope she will soon be feeling better. I lost my Mum a few years ago now, but there is never a day that she is not in my thoughts and I always carry a photo of her in my purse. My daughter Heidi is cooking lunch for me on Sunday.

    Hi Julia
Just finished hosting Mothers Day. Both Mums and Chris’ nan fed and watered and gone off back home. Had a lovely day. I’m lucky in that my mum only lives 5 mins drive away.
I had such a fab time at QVC on Friday. I hope I did ok. Chris recorded it but not had chance to watch it yet, hoping to watch it later tonight. I was conscious of not saying too much as I know you have a lot to get through but I hope I said enough. One thing I didn’t mention that I definitely should have done when you asked whether I was worried about hitting 50 next year is my toy boy husband! Chris is only 40 so I guess I should be worried about hitting 50 but the truth is I’m not. I never feel as though I look older than him which just goes to show what great skincare can do for you! (That’s also the reason why I don’t nag him too much to use his Elemis. A few crinkles around his eyes suits me just fine!) Another big deal is that I was a massive sun worshipper from late teens to mid thirties and even had my own sunbed for quite a few of those years! My skin really shouldn’t look like this and I definitely put a lot of it down to Elemis. I hope to get the chance to say these things on air given another opportunity but I also know just how lucky I am to have appeared on two shows.
    Lots of love
PS. I didn’t even get to have a chat with Dale which is probably just as well given the grovelling I had to do with Chris when I got home. Feeling guilty???? No, I thought not!

Hope you had a great day Julia. Disappointing a wee bit for Palace yesterday I’m guessing. Pretty much stuck in mid table now. At least you don’t have relegation wories this year. Did you happen to catch the Scottish League Cup Final today? Kilmarnock 1 Celtic 0 was the final score πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
Catch up with you soon hopefully
    Take care xxx

    Hi Julia
I hope you had a fab Mothers Day and with Sophie back I’m sure it was a very special day.
I too wish I was nearer to my parents and as they get older you appreciate them even more. Still had a lovely weekend with them both.
They live in a lovely village in the Cotswolds, Bourton on the Water, which come Easter will be full of tourists.
So visitng them is like a mini break each time and you really do forget the stresses of work and focus on something different.
I hope you do manage to see your Mum this week and looking forward to seeing some pikkies of Sophies travels.
    Love from Joy xx

    Hi Michelle
I will put some photos of Australia up …… just for you!
I know exactly what you mean about carrying your Mum’s photo around with you – that’s precisely why I do it. And you are right, Mums are precious, I’m hoping to see mine on Wednesday.
Hope you enjoyed the Lotus show and that it wasn’t too uncomfortable sitting on your hands!!!!

    Hello Kay
Glad to hear you still have both your parents and they are still both so independant. Mum was like that until she got ‘shingles’ nearly two years ago and that seems to have affected her spirit as well as her health. I am so pleased she has ‘Tabby’ cat for company and as a reason to get up each morning to care for her. It’s funny, but I really don’t think Mum sees herself as old at the grand age of 85!
I spent the afternoon with my two before heading in to QVC – I hope you had an enjoyable day?

    Hi Kathy
Hope you enjoyed the Elemis show? Did you like the idea of having Emma’s Mum on to represent the 60s age group? I thought she was brilliant, an absolute natural. And well done to Marian too.
I will definitely visit Australia one day – maybe to visit Sophie if she decides to live there for a while!!!

    Hello Bee
Thanks for your kind comments about the Elemis show on Friday – I enjoyed it too and thought the ‘models’ were all excellent.
I have been using Lulu shampoo and conditioner lately followed by the Frederick Fekkai olive oil leave in styling cream. I’ve also just started using the Babyliss ‘Big Hair’ – takes a bit of getting used to but quite a good result I think – Debs Flint and Greenwood swear by it!

    Hello Tina
It’s never the right time to deal with the loss of your Mum but it must have been so hard for you at just 12 years old – a difficult age for girls in any circumstances. I think it is wonderful that you still think of her so much and wholeheartedly agree that we should treasure our Mums.

Hope you had a lovely lunch with your daughter Heidi on Sunday? I love that photo of my Mum. I do have others but there is just something so caring about that photo.
I promise I will post some of Sophie’s pics later in the week. She started her new job today (Tuesday) so waiting to hear how it went.

    Hi Marian
I hope I didn’t get you in trouble with Chris – just a bit of harmless banter!! I thought you were great, as was Emma’s Mum, and I think the show had a really nice feel to it.
Can’t believe you used to have a sun bed! That is one thing I have never put my skin through.
Thanks for the cup cake – it was delicious …. I really mean it, nice and chocolatey!
Glad you had a good time on Friday and Sunday

    Hi Steven
Long time no hear! How are things off the pitch with Rangers now?
You are naughty – you will definitely be off my sister’s Christmas card list LOL!!!
Very average game for Palace on Saturday, lacked the cutting edge up front, but then Wilfred Zaha was suspended and we really missed him.
Apparently Nat Clyne is going to Man Utd at the end of the season – great move for him! but not so great for Palace fans! Oh well I’m sure there will be some more talent coming through the Academy. Did I tell you Dan is now U14’s assistant coach there?
Good luck for the rest of the season

    Hello Joy
I’m glad you were able you see your Mum at the weekend – the Cotswolds is a lovely part of the country.
It was great to have Dan and Sophie around even though it was only for a few hours. Still trying to adjust to not having Sophie at home or at work but excited that she is getting on with her life – she started her new job today so hope that went well.
Will post some Oz pics later in the week

    Hi Julia
Things are looking up a little bit. We have had bids made for the club but we are still in the hands of the administrators at present.
I could be even more in your sisters bad books. We play Celtic on Sunday at Ibrox. Terrifying thought though – if results go Celtic’s way over the weekend then they could clinch the Title – at Ibrox… nightmare
I never knew that about Clyne. Must speak to you more often then I’ll get all the inside info and goss!! As you say that is a fantastic move for him personally. Palace have been well known for bringing through their own guys so hopefully find a good replacement. No I never knew about Dan doing that. Thats a good job! See some of the stars of the future hopefully from your point of view coming through first hand.
Thank Crunchy its Friday tomorrow. Cant wait for Sunday. Old Firm games are always like that!
Have a great weekend and speak soon xx

    Hi Steven
Sorry for the delay in congratulating you and Rangers for the result at the weekend – I am on annual leave ( use it or lose it ) so have taken the opportunity to get some more of my book done. I have only nine chapters to do to finish the first draft and then it will be a case of ‘tweaking’!! I need to get it done on this break really as I have no more time planned off until July.
I’m pleased that affairs off the field seem to be going in your favour too ….. trust me you can survive administration!
    speak soon

    Hi Steven
I have just written chapter 90 which is about the 90th minute David Hopkin goal that won us promotion in the 1997 play off final. (For those who aren’t interested in football, don’t worry there are only a couple of the 100 chapters that mention it, but it had to be in the book as it is part of my life.)
The chapter also mentions the 90th minute goal that kept us in the Championship scored by none other than current Manager, Dougie Freedman!!!!
    Have a good weekend
