Happy Easter, everyone! And my winner is…

Competition prizeThank you so much for an unprecedented response to my competition this week! It's been great to hear from so many of you and particularly good to hear about your 21st birthday celebrations and gifts – so many of us were given jewellery!

Also interesting, I thought, that the majority of you who took part in the competition thought the answer was the hand towel – because it was! I first saw this in a hotel in London many moons ago and have been carrying it around in my handbag for months! I thought, though, that you – like I – would enjoy the element of surprise when the water is added πŸ™‚ … made me laugh anyway!

I have to thank Mark, my editor, for posting the multitudinous entries and, as always – over  the weekend – I promise I will respond to you all. But now, the all-important part … the winner!

Congratulations to Jennifer Cann and this is what you've won (see the picture at the start of this post) - check your emails and let me know where to send your prize!

I have my regular Diamonique show tonight at 9pm so do join me for that, but then I'm off the schedule until the following Thursday at 9pm!  I hope you have a lovely Easter and that the weather is kind to you, and I will bring the blog up to date next week.

Take care, and do keep in touch

Love, Ali xx

Hi Ali, just to let you know I have just got out of hospital after an emergency admission last Friday. I was put on intravenous antibiotics for 5 days and have been sent home with another 5 days of oral antibiotics.I have something called diverticulitis (the bowel) and my colonoscopy has aggravated it. Didn’t even know what it was or that I had it until Friday. Feeling very sorry for myself all my plans have gone out of the window and I just feel I don’t want anything else to be wrong with me. Sorry to be such a misery guts, I just need to rest and take it easy over the next few days.
Have a lovely Easter speak soon love Janet xx

Happy Easter Ali and everyone – what a hoot the hand towel is – brilliant.
Just put the Easter bunting up in the kitchen and the yellow paper egg shaped cones which I have pinned to the beams – if we sold our house a surveyor would think we had woodworm as I don’t mind sticking pins in the wood to hand my bunting etc. The Happy Easter Bunny flag has been flying all week and hopefully tomorrow the Easter Bunny will have put the eggs out all over the garden so that we can hunt them down!!!! Looking forward to hearing how everyone is doing – Love Jilly XX

Dear Rhona, Please don’t apologise for not being in touch – I know how life gets in the way of life! πŸ™‚ I’m glad that you now have a new heating system, but I know how disruptive that can be having had ours installed last November! So glad you’ve had good weather for a change, and I hope that meant you were able to spend some of Easter outdoors. You take care, and love to the family, from us all here, Ali xx

Oh dear Janet I am so sorry to hear that you have diverticulitis and had to admitted to hospital last week. You must have been very frightened and in a lot of pain. My mum has this condition too, and it causes her a lot of distress when it flares up :/ You have every right to feel sorry for yourself, I just hope that by the time you read this the tablets will be working and you’ll be feeling a great deal better. Sending you a big hug, and do let me know how you’re getting on, love Ali xx

Jan I am so pleased to hear that you are six years on from your diagnosis and feeling well πŸ™‚ News like that always cheers me, and it is very kind of you to write so kindly, and to wish me well. It’s just over two and a half years since my treatment finished, and I count each day as a blessing – stay well, and thank you for writing, love Ali xx

Hi Mary, I think unless you were in Scotland over the weekend, you will have had the grey chilly and wet weather! We spent the day with my sister and mum, watching TV and chatting in her front room, complete with a roaring log fire! It was very cosy πŸ™‚ I hope you enjoyed yourselves and didn’t have to use the cabin, although a game of pool never goes amiss eh? πŸ™‚ Glad the clip made you titter… very Carry On I think πŸ™‚ love to you, me xx

Hi Jilly, and I am sorry that this is the response you will read before my reply to your lovely long and chatty comment in the previous blog. As you’ve probably gathered, it took ages to go through all the hundreds of replies, and although I tried to get to everyone, the blog page went down and I was unable to respond over the last few days. I hope that you, Annie and the entire family had a fabulous Easter, and found all the eggs that the Easter Bunny left for you! Take care, and chat again soon, love Ali xx

    Dear Ali,
Sorry I’ve not written for a while. Have been reading your blogs and the Army’s news πŸ™‚ Lovely to have you back and looking so fabulous.
I’ve not been well. I find it intolerable to see my health get progressively worse because of the attitude to this illness. If there was any hope here, it would not be such a desperate situation. There have been on going issues to deal with as usual. As that is not enough, the people around me seem to have lost possession of their senses, more than usual!
I didn’t realize how much I push myself until I stopped a little and everything hit me at once. Rest doesn’t help but if I don’t rest I feel much worse. It’s impossible to make my health a priority. If I do, I won’t be able to try and manage my life and I simply can not do both. I don’t remember the last time it was any different and I am very weary of it all. Sorry to be so grumpy!
Janet, so sorry to hear you were admitted to hospital. My brother in law has diverticulitis and as Ali said, it is distressing when it flares up. I hope you have been resting and are feeling a little better now. Please be kind to yourself after all you have recently been through. Sending you a big hug x
Jilly, lovely to hear all your news. I do like the sound of Easter at your home. It sounds perfect πŸ™‚ Sending my love x
Love to Una, Debz, Sue, Elaine, Liz and all in Ali’s Army x
    Take care Ali
    Lots of Love, Alpa xxx

Hi Ali – just been watching your B & W shows – fab evening – I have quite a number of those red boxes with the B & W gems inside – and I wear them anytime as I don’t think one should keep things for “best”.I laughed when you were both talking about who wears the lovely large items. Someone quiet or someone loud – well – me for one and yes, I may be a little chatty (read that as loud!!!) at times which is why I thought it very funny to hear you both.
Your hair looked lovely and I was thinking how strong and healthy it looked and then you said it was with today’s tsv treatment. Mine you your hair always does look super no matter if it is up or down.
Alpa how good to hear from you again and so sorry you have not been anywhere near as good as you would want. It is so difficult for you as one day if you feel stronger you will do so much and then the next suffer more for it – but it is so hard getting that balance. Try and stay strong as there will be help out there somewhere. I do understand how you feel as my mum also has the same illness and I know that some days she is good and others just so tired and that can last for a good while. So big hugs from here for you my dear.
It was a lovely day here and now it is dark our lights are on around the garden – so pretty to see but roll on the longer evenings.Looking forward to hearing all the catch ups from everyone. It really is like a huge bunch of friends and so special to have. Love Jilly XX

    Dear Jilly,
Lovely to hear from you. Thank you for thinking of me and understanding. It doesn’t help that the main characteristic of the illness is post neuroimmune exhaustion, which is is an abnormally delayed muscle recovery after doing trivial things. I haven’t found a way to balance things and pacing has never worked for me. I’ve stopped using the word tired because it’s not tiredness in the normal sense of the word.
There’s a book that came highly recommended. It’s called Missed Dignoses Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome 2nd Edition by Dr Byron Hyde and is available from Amazon. If you’re ok to exchange contact details, it’s no trouble for me to order and send it to you. I’m just so sorry your Mum has to go through the same thing.
How nice to have lights around your garden. It’s good to see the days slowly getting longer as well. You are so right in saying Ali’s Army is very special to have. You have all made such a difference and I can never thank you enough for that.
    Lots of Love, Alpa xxx

    Hi Alison,
    Great blog as always πŸ™‚
Dad had his stem cell transplant and is now home and recovering. He seems to be eating a lot of ice cream! But is struggling with a really dry mouth and no real appetite for food.
    Lots of love, Catherine x

    Hi Ali,
Thank you so much for responding, regarding my query for a piece of jewellery to be designed in memory of Amica for the breast cancer care event.
The design that Amica did for a broach sounds lovely.
The only thing I would suggest is to make sure that there is plenty of stock as I’m sure that thousands will be sold for this great cause and to remember a great lady.
I have also sent a message to Charlie regarding this and he thought it was a lovely idea, so hopefully between you both you can make this happen.
Perhaps Buckley jewellers could help with the design etc.
Take good care and please keep me posted.
If you wanted to e mail me personally then QVC has my permission to give you my e mail address.
    Love Jacqui. XXX
